We took our 12 year old daughter with us to see Riders in the Sky and we all loved the show. The quartet is not only visually entertaining and very funny, but also musically talented. It was a great evening and we would highly recommend RitS to all. After 30 years of touring they can't possibly keep this up for very much longer. See them while you can!

  • the riders rode, but no one was at the range.

a fine show all the way around. the only problem? a noticeably meager audience turnout. someone at the opera house said attendance was somewhere around 360. and in a facility seating around 1,110, that can't help but stand out. in all honesty, i went as much to see the opening set by chris hillman and herb pedersen as riders in the sky. seemed i was in the minority on that, though. the crowd received the duo politely but responded more vocally to a cover of the buck owens hit "together again" than they did byrds hits like "turn, turn, turn" and "eight miles high." regardless, it was a fine 40 minute set that covered a lot of ground, from pedersen's bluegrass hit "wait a minute" to hillman solo works like "desert rose." the aforementioned byrds tunes took on a fresh western sound within the mandolin/guitar setting, too. vocally, both sounded great with solid, rich tones and terrific harmonzing. the riders were fine as well. the program offered essentially the same set list and jokes that have made up their shows for years. despite that familiarity, it was pretty hard not to get drawn into their cowboy campfire world. songs like "cool water," "texas plains" and even "rawhide" boasted clean, cherry harmonies and joey the cowpolka king's instrumental take on the les paul hit "how high the moon" underscored the light, lyrical nature of group's arrangements. though pretty choreographed in many ways, the riders still possess a sharp wit. when a bat dove down from the vast heights of the opera house stage during the otherwise graceful "the arms of my love," joey added in a bit of the instrumental "batman" tv show theme from the '60s on accordion. all in all, a wonderful evening. wish more folks checked it out, though.

  • Riders in the Sky "Cowboy Way" unforgettable!

by RenoKelley on 6/6/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Riders in the Sky put smiles on the faces of young and old alike at the Lexington Opera House with faithful renditions of cowboy classics and funny asides -- all related to their philosophy that straight shooters with a sense of humor are the bedrock of "The Cowboy Way." When was the last time you heard good cowboy yodeling? Ranger Doug Green still hits the high notes. Green, Too Slim, Woody Paul and Joe 'Cowpolka King' were thoroughly entertaining mixing reverence and frivolity. Mention must also be made of the opening act, Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson, longtime collaborators, who played a stirring acoustic set with just mandolin and guitar. I had a smile on my face all night, thanks to all these veteran musicians.

  • Riders In The Sky have still got it!

The performance of The Rders In The Sky exceeded my expectations. They performed a fast paced act for 1.5 hours.

  • MUST SEE!

by LWOODsings on 6/6/11Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Riders in the Sky is an amazing group of 30+ years. If you're looking for a fun evening, this is a "must"!! They are individually amazing musicians, and have a ton of humor in their act - very engaging. Jimmy Buffet says "don't try to describe a KISS concert if you've never seen one". Ditto for Riders! Riders should definitely be on your BUCKET LIST!!!

My daughters and myself have seen Riders several times and we always have a great time. They always sound fantastic, are funny and are great musicians. Even if you don' t like "cowboy music" you will enjoy the show.

They were great! A friend had seen them a while ago in a different state and she said they did 4 encores. So I was a little disappointed that they didn't sing more songs during the encore.

  • Super entertainment!

This was the second time I have been to their show. It is SUCH a good time! The first time was 10+ yrs ago on a date. This time I took my 3 1/2 yr old son and my Mother also. They both loved it. Great energy, timeless music, funny banter, and a family friendly art form that we are losing. Very recommended!

We never miss a Riders in the Sky concert if at all possible. Purchased our tickets last fall before coming to AZ for the winter. But I do wish they would consider updating their show. We've not lucky enough to see them more than about every other year, yet I believe we have seen the same show the last three times. They have so many good songs and they need to put some new one in the show. And as far as I'm concerned, they can leave out the "Woody" part.

  • The Riders never fail!

by django5 on 3/16/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

Ranger Doug and the Riders In The Sky never fail to entertain - from the youngest to the oldest of fans. The audience, (full attendance), was with them the whole way. Ranger Doug's great singing, yodeling, and impressive rhythm guitar; Too Slim's comedy and solid bass accompanyment; Woody Paul's smooth fiddle work and vocal stylings; with Joey's tasty and spirited accordian playing, made for an afternoon's entertainment, that slid by much too fast. We're already looking forward to their next visit!

  • Riders were awesome!!

This was our first opportunity to see the Riders in person. We loved the music and the humor! It was well worth the ticket price. Given the chance we would go to another Riders concert. They were delightful!!!

  • Riders in the Sky were great!

by Boomer60 on 3/15/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

Thier blend of music, interaction between each other and the audience was really above average. The ease with which they perform shows the value of 3 decades together, but not a bored with each other or the material interaction. One thing I noticed, however, was they look a lot better on the radio!

  • Mostly Great

by CallieAnne on 3/15/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 4 out of 5

The music was terrific! But I was disappointed they didn't do any comedy sketches. That was my favorite part of their radio show.

Once again this group hit an over-the-wall home run for me. I'm a long time fan of Cowboy Music and I could have sat for another 2 or more hours and listened to them.

If you love the old-time cowboy music, well then the Riders In The Sky are a must see! They are true entertainers with a mix of standard cowboy songs, comedy & masters of their instruments.

  • Riders In The Sky............so great!

by IrishClan1 on 3/15/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

I just love the old Western music and the comedy combined into the entire thing has me laughing and singing! I would definately recommend this show to anyone!

  • Talented Buckaroos

by VAmoose on 1/1/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

A class act of extremely talented musicians and stage performers. They have fun, the audience has fun, and everyone leaves humming one of the tunes. It's the cowboy way.

  • Riders in the Sky Wonderful!

by Buckeroo on 12/23/10The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic evening of fun, beautiful harmony, great instrumentation, memories and humor! We are so glad that we went. I can't begin to say how much we enjoyed the concert. I am just so grateful that they have come to Ann Arbor, and if they come again, we'll be there...could not come again because, "It wouldn't be the Cowboy way!!" Thanks again to the volunteers at The Ark and to the Boys for a truly memorable evening of great music and humor. What a "feel good" show!!

  • EXCELLENT!

I didn't think I was going to like this concert. I only went to humor my husband. I'm not a great fan of this kind of Western music......but WOW.....these guys are fantastic. They're extremely funny, great entertainers, and what talent. I still don't particularly care for this kind of Western music, but I enjoyed these guys soooo much and am particularly impressed with their musical talent, that I actually bought one of their CDs and will listen to it with a different perspective and will enjoy it. I will be actively looking for their next appearance in this area.....that's how much I enjoyed it. The Ark was a pleasant surprise. It was a very comfortable, quaint environment. I highly recommend seeing this concert!
