About

About Ricky Gervais on Tour

For Ricky Gervais, comedy means the freedom to say everything he's not supposed to. Following his worldwide hit Humanity, the British actor, writer and stand-up performer's first full-length live show SuperNature is another no-holds-barred showcase for one of the most fearless wits in contemporary comedy.

His sixth live tour, SuperNature displays the stage prowess Gervais first established when his show Rubbernecker became a hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2001. That same year, Gervais and his regular collaborator Stephen Merchant changed the course of comedy television with the BBC debut of The Office. A groundbreaking mockumentary about a dysfunctional workplace, the series yielded a rich variety of iconic characters, Gervais' most famous creation being general manager David Brent.

Though Gervais followed up the global success of The Office with more hilarious forays into television, radio, film and podcasting, stand-up has remained at the core of his performing career. The 2003 debut of his show Animals marked the beginning of a series of successful comedy tours in the UK and throughout the world. Humanity, recorded for a live special on Netflix, brought a triumphant return to touring in 2017 and 2018. SuperNature is set to debut on Netflix in later 2020.

Ricky Gervais Background

An influential figure in comedy, Ricky Gervais has delighted in pushing buttons and boundaries ever since he first gained wider attention with the 2001 debut of The Office. The series became a favorite of audiences worldwide for its sharp and funny portrayal of a workplace overseen by Gervais' most famous character: the self-obsessed and self-deluded manager David Brent.

Created and written by Gervais with partner Stephen Merchant, The Office led to a wide and wildly creative array of projects, shows and roles in TV, film, radio, podcasting and publishing. Gervais reunited with Merchant for several more TV series, including Extras and Life's Too Short. Gervais' big-screen credits include Muppets Most Wanted, For Your Consideration and the Night at the Museum franchise. Millions of viewers also got a taste of his savage wit during his many stints as host of the Golden Globes.

Ricky Gervais' stand-up career continued with sell-out tours for such shows as Animals and Fame. First performed in 2017 and later released as a live special on Netflix, Humanity established him as a preeminent performer in the comedy world.

Ricky was good as expected, audio production was horrible

    by Brad on 8/13/23

Ricky sadly was not the story on the 10th in Toronto. He was as hoped for and expected…when you could hear him clearly. The sound production was the worst i have ever heard at Scotiabank. Had great seats to the left side of the stage (left side when facing the crowd) but the speakers that were designed to project to the side either did not work or they were over powered by the front facing speakers. There was a terrible echo all night. We could barely understand (had to strain) to hear what was being said and then would hear a loud echo from the back of the arena hitting us to make it harder. Lots of frustrated guests on this side of the stage. Ricky was good-the production was terrible.

    Ricky is great

    by Alyssa on 8/13/23

Loved the show. Only problem is lack of screens … only 2 screens near the stage showed the performer - hard to see

    Revelatory

    by Kat on 8/13/23

Ruthless, visionary, revelatory. Storyteller, philosopher, genius. Testing the limits of morality for the greater good of humanity in the face of our impending ‘apocalypse’!

    Gervais doesn’t disappoint!

    by Ohioman on 8/13/23

Gervais reminds me of George Carlin. Armageddon is typical Gervais humor. Well constructed & intellectual. Observations of life and its often humorous consequences. The only drawback is comedians in large arenas sometimes are difficult to understand with the sound system in them. It was more true with the opening act since he had a handheld microphone and Gervais a headphone.

    Scotia rattle

    by Jack on 8/13/23

Ricky was great. I think. Couldn't hear him BC of ridiculous rattling from Scotiabank air system where we were sitting. Numerous people got up and left. Don't host if you can't do it right Toronto.

Worth, every penny, I would pay double to see him again. I hope he continues to tour so he can share his talent with us 👍🏼👍🏼❤️

    Irreverent and side splitting funny.

    by Doc Hersh on 8/13/23

Not the greatest venue but a real treat to witness a comedic genius in person. Can’t wait to watch the show again when it comes out on Netflix.

    Hilarious and refreshing

    by Brit Abroad on 7/4/23

Fantastic and hilarious performance. Not for the sensitive with no topic off the table. Refreshing to see someone not filtering their content and delivering in an engaging way.

    Another gem from Ricky

    by Brian on 7/4/23

Excellent show at a world class venue. Ricky is one of the greats and had a perfect seat in first row of Mezzanine, dead center.
