About Ricky Gervais on Tour

For Ricky Gervais, comedy means the freedom to say everything he's not supposed to. Following his worldwide hit Humanity, the British actor, writer and stand-up performer's first full-length live show SuperNature is another no-holds-barred showcase for one of the most fearless wits in contemporary comedy.

His sixth live tour, SuperNature displays the stage prowess Gervais first established when his show Rubbernecker became a hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2001. That same year, Gervais and his regular collaborator Stephen Merchant changed the course of comedy television with the BBC debut of The Office. A groundbreaking mockumentary about a dysfunctional workplace, the series yielded a rich variety of iconic characters, Gervais' most famous creation being general manager David Brent.

Though Gervais followed up the global success of The Office with more hilarious forays into television, radio, film and podcasting, stand-up has remained at the core of his performing career. The 2003 debut of his show Animals marked the beginning of a series of successful comedy tours in the UK and throughout the world. Humanity, recorded for a live special on Netflix, brought a triumphant return to touring in 2017 and 2018. SuperNature is set to debut on Netflix in later 2020.

Ricky Gervais Background

An influential figure in comedy, Ricky Gervais has delighted in pushing buttons and boundaries ever since he first gained wider attention with the 2001 debut of The Office. The series became a favorite of audiences worldwide for its sharp and funny portrayal of a workplace overseen by Gervais' most famous character: the self-obsessed and self-deluded manager David Brent.

Created and written by Gervais with partner Stephen Merchant, The Office led to a wide and wildly creative array of projects, shows and roles in TV, film, radio, podcasting and publishing. Gervais reunited with Merchant for several more TV series, including Extras and Life's Too Short. Gervais' big-screen credits include Muppets Most Wanted, For Your Consideration and the Night at the Museum franchise. Millions of viewers also got a taste of his savage wit during his many stints as host of the Golden Globes.

Ricky Gervais' stand-up career continued with sell-out tours for such shows as Animals and Fame. First performed in 2017 and later released as a live special on Netflix, Humanity established him as a preeminent performer in the comedy world.

    Great show, terrible venue org

    by Galina on 8/15/23

The venue for that show was in Laval. I bought the tickets 4 months ahead of time and neither the venue, nor the ticketmaster had warned me about the parking situation. Coming from Montreal i didn’t expect it would be a problem. Well, it was a huge problem. The show was at 19:30 and I’d arrived 30 minutes ahead, thinking I have enough time to park and enter the venue. I was wrong. It took multiple turns around the neighborhood to find a place and I had to walk 20 minutes in the rain. I am 7 months pregnant, so all of this added stress was really unnecessary. When I arrived at the venue, the lineup outside was huge. If the show starts at 19:30 shouldn’t the people be seated by that time? Apparently not according to the organizers of the event. It was my first time at that venue too, so I didn’t know where my seats were - the signage is very unclear. When I’ve asked the employee, he pointed me in the WRONG direction. He had one job and failed it. So to sum it up, i came to the venue at 19:00 and was only able to seat at 19:45 due to the terrible parking and seating organization. Mind you, i was not the last one to sit down. People kept looking for seats well after 8, well beyond the warm up act which actually started on time. Prior to going to Ricky Gervais, i went to see Metallica at the Olympic Stadium and I had tons of emails for parking which I didn’t need. For Ricky i’ve got no emails about parking and boy it was stressful. Very unprofessional organization.

    Amazing!

    by Fabiana on 8/15/23

The show was amazing. I loved Ricky and the type of comedy he does without care if someone is going yo feel insulted. Is comedy and that’s the way it should be.

    love Ricky

Ricky looked tired / jokes were a little forced / no doubt the traveling is catching up

Funny but could be in my living room

    by JB on 8/15/23

Love the guy, the show was good. But honestly, it’s guy telling jokes on a stage which you end up watching on the giant screens on either side… didn’t have to go to Laval for that, could have watched from the comfort of my home.

    Genius testing material.

    by Phil_Zabel on 8/15/23

Had a great time, laughed a lot but felt like Ricky was testing material. We are used to watching specials that are tighter. Can’t wait to see this one on Netflix, since it will probably be edited with the stronger bits.

    Meh

    by Deb on 8/15/23

$15 for 1 can of beer. Unacceptable. Why do prices of the concession stands have to be so much that you can't enjoy the event without feeling the pinch? and the show itself was also not that great. Ticketing and all was fine. Easy to use, etc. But again the ticket prices were through the roof for I don't know what reason.

Not for the faint of heart

Once again Ricky sends us to hell for laughing at things one is not supposed to laugh at. And so, we laughed

    What a waste of money

    by Anish on 8/14/23

Potentially one of the best comedians of our times, and the team screws up the sound. I was one of the many people on the south east corner of the arena who had technical.issues with the sound of the show. The echo was so bad that we had to really close out one year, sit sideways and stare at the screen to make more sense of the words while lip reading. No comment from ticketmaster yet. No apology no refunds

    Great performance. Lousy venue

    by Leigh-Anne on 8/13/23

The sound system at Scotiabank arena was horrible. We were in section 310 close to the back row and could not hear anything the opening act said. There were speakers mounted to the bulkhead that the last few rows were under but no sound was coming out of them. Terrible echoes in the arena too. And being so high up the HVAC system was directly above our heads and super loud. My ears were ringing from the noise. Went down to complain to customer service, as did most others from our section, and were told they were aware of the problem with the sound and were working on it. They couldn't re-seat us until after Ricky came on apparently, so we were told our options were to wait at customer service or go back to our seats. In neither scenario would we have heard the show. And there was no promise of actually being reseated. Just a wait and see if other people didn't show up. As we missed the opening couple of minutes of Ricky while at customer service we took matters into our hands and chose to seat ourselves in the section to the left of ours, in line with the stage, as this section wasn't part of the seating plan for the show all of the seats were available so we could sit in the second row, with no bulkhead to block the sound, and away from the super loud HVAC. Even here though we heard echoes for the entire show. It was distracting at times and some dialog I couldn't make out. And ya know, hearing the dialog was actually the whole point of the night. Scotiabank you can do better. You should have done better to resolve your customers complaints before the start of the show. You should have setup the seating plan better in the first place so that no one was sitting above the damn bulkheads. And maybe you should invest in a better sound system if you want to book comedians or any other performer who relies on actually being heard. All that said however, Ricky was AMAZING!!! I laughed so hard for pretty much the entire show that my stomach hurt. It flew by so fast. I can't wait to re-watch it when it comes out on Netflix!! So to recap: the venue sucked. Ricky was still awesome! I would definitely go see him again but sadly not if he's playing at Scotiabank arena.

    Epic!

    by Telle on 8/13/23

One of the best concerts I’ve been too! Earth, Wind and Fire killed it and Lionel Richie was in fine form! Amazing music, great sound and the energy was electric! I’m so happy I went!

Ricky was great, venue not so much

    by BT on 8/13/23

Ricky was awesome, very happy for to see him. The venue (Air Canada Centre) sound quality was kinda bad, incredible echo which made it hard to pick up everything. A lot of people around me kept asking what he said after a punchline.

Worth every penny and every minute

    by Kain on 8/13/23

Ricky delivered as always. I’m sure I’ll watch the special a few times when it comes out on Netflix too. Ricky keeps real comedy alive!

    Early Material

by Dman de Toronto on 8/13/23

Ricky was honest at the start, the material was raw. Some good bits but still unpolished and will likely be even better by the Netflix special. Still solid enough show even if you’re not a super fan.

    Fabulous as always

    by zikomagiko on 8/13/23

The one and only Gervais. Hilarious, honest, and a beautiful message. Highly recommended.

    Good enough

    by MsJennX on 8/13/23

Love Ricky Gervais and we saw how he has the opportunity to ‘practice’ with the bits that ultimately make it the to Netflix gold list. Kinda felt like a repeat of his previous shows. He has his standard subject matter, like atheism, but some jokes felt like I’d heard it before. Still a good show, but not the great show we were expecting.

    Good show, too short

    by Saint on 8/13/23

The show was funny and entertaining. However it was a bit short. Only about 55min of Ricky Gervais. Was expecting longer, considering the venue and ticket cost. Other performers I've seen did 90-120min shows.
