RICK SPRINGFIELD IN CONCERT:
Rock superstar Rick Springfield has been wooing audiences with his polished voice and leading-man looks ever since his rise to fame in the early '70s. More than four decades later, he looks and sounds as good as ever, treating fans to an unforgettable evening of solo performance and storytelling on his Stripped Down tour. Taking time between each song to relay the touching and humorous stories that inspired them, Springfield has proven that his talents as an entertainer extend well beyond his musical abilities. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Australian-born Rick Springfield began playing the guitar at age 13, cutting his teeth in several bands in England after his army officer father relocated the family there in 1958. After a stint fronting the British band Zoot in the late '60s, Springfield launched his solo career in 1971 with debut single "Speak to the Sky," a Top 10 hit in his native Australia. After releasing several moderately successful albums in the '70s, Springfield hit his stride in 1981 with Working Class Dog, a massive success propelled by the No. 1 hit "Jesse's Girl." 1982's My Success Hasn't Spoiled Yet fared similarly, landing at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawning several more hit singles. A veteran showman with four decades of touring under his belt, Springfield returns to the road once again for a string of highly anticipated tour dates.

This concert was amazing. Rick was on fire and so entertaining as always!!! Some of the fans got a little out of control, but that is a sign of a good rock concert!!!! Rick and his band are just super! Sorry you all couldn't have been there...
I was totally amazed with the quality of show that Rick provided considering the venue was lower end. I especially liked how he was out with the crowd during the song "Human Touch"! I enjoyed the concert and would attend another of his concert's if I had the opportunity!. You could tell he was having fun with the show. It was very warm in there and he was dripping sweat and he kept on giving it his all! I was totally amazed that he will be 60 next month. I would never have guessed he was that age!
I have seen RIck in concert three times now, which is not as many as some die hard fans, however, this was the best show yet! Even better than his show at the fair last summer! I love the Val Air Ballroom for concerts, the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. Even if you are in the back of the room, the sound is great and you could still see Rick rocking it out! And, for those who want to sit and relax, it is available. Rick Springfield is still rocking 30 years later, and I will not miss his next show when he comes back to Des Moines!
And he's still hot!!! He looked nice all sweaty. :)
This concert was awesome. We had never been to a concert at the Val Air, while I wasnt that impressed with the Val Airs website and trying to get information from them. Everything once we got there was the best.
He is a great entertainer and puts on a fantastic show.
Val Air Ballroom was an ok venue, rundown and outdated...however, Rick Springfield was fantastic. He was so full of energy and the show was one of the best that I have ever seen. As always he was all over the stage, out in the audience and really interacting with the crowd. As a performer, he has really grown since the 80's and really shows how much his fans mean to him. If you really want to see a show that will give you everything, he is all that. Talent, sex appeal and a true artist....well worth every penny.
Rick Springfield puts on an amazing show!! Still has the moves and the looks after all these years! I've seen him perform twice in the past year and it's an incredible show. He sang several songs from the "Venus in Overdrive" cd--his new music is as great as the "old" music from the 80's! I definitely plan to attend any upcoming concert he plays in the Des Moines area!!!!
The concert was good. I'm especially partial to Standing Hampton, who opened up for Rick. I think their band was better than Ricks. Still an overall good event though.
I have seen Rick before and he was GREAT! But whoever ran the sound system last night should be fired! I want my money back!...
Played enough old tunes to keep my attention and as for the new stuff; I bought the new cd to download to my ipod. Show could have been longer, but he is getting older. Of course he may be older in age, but WOW he looked really, really hot.
It was a great show. I highly recommend it to old and new fans of Rick.
First concert at Val Air I've been to and picked a great one to go to. Rick sounded and looked as good as he has for last 20+ years. A little too much bass but other then that a great concert and fun was had by all.
Great show! Rick sounded great, looked great. He sounds better than he did in the 80's!! Very hard to believe this guy is turning 60 next month!! I think he has more energy than most people half his age and really puts his all in a show! He really gets close to his audience, By going into the audience! He is very brave! He is very talented and it really shows. If you get the chance check him out. He has been way underrated in the past!! He deserves A LOT more respect. Defiantly not just a pretty face!
This was my first Rick Springfield concert and I was really impressed. I have been a fan of Rick's since the early 80s, but never had a chance to see him in concert. My bedroom walls were covered with pictures and posters of Rick!! It was great to hear him sing many of his old songs, as well as include songs from his newest CDs. Rick still looks good after all these years. If you've ever been a fan, I'd recommend seeing him in concert if he comes to a city near you. Long live the 80s!!!
For an 1 hour and 45 minutes last night I thought I was back in time! Back in the mid eighties watching Rick Springfield perform with as much energy as he had 25 years ago. He's still got the voice, the moves, the great guitar skills and the LOOKS! He interacted with the audience on a level that had fans screaming and forgetting they were Mother's of children at home. I twisted a friends arm to go with me and is she really glad I did!
The concert drew a diverse crowd of all ages and everyone appeared to be having a great time. Men and women, young and old, everyone enjoyed singing and dancing along to the concert. Rick is high energy and engages the audience. His following is still strong after all these years and his new music is even better than the 80's music that made him famous. I'll be there next time he comes to town too.
