    An Okay Event

by Misty on 10/2/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

The Alex Theater is a great venue. Checking into the venue went quickly. You received the new book upon entry. Rick Riordan's talk was supposed to be an hour but ended up only 45 minutes including a trivia game. I wish the talk was longer and not just one big ad for upcoming books from other authors and TV series. I think this was a missed opportunity to learn more about the author and his thought process. I did like the Q & A format with the Stacey Lee just wish it would have been more in depth. There was major chaos when people were trying to get their t-shirts. They did not have enough T-shirts, especially in different sizes. Not sure why this was the case as the event was sold out so Barnes & Noble should have had at least that many available. At one point the employees handing them out started throwing them to those of us standing in line, that was such a bad idea that they stopped right away. There were not enough employees passing out the shirts, they definitely needed more help. I would suggest in the future to pass out the shirts at the beginning and pass out the book at the end as it takes less time for everyone to get a book. Bonus though they did have Percy Jackson bags to go with the shirts.

    Tourist Trap

by Tourist on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

This was one of the most expensive tourist traps I have ever been to. I spent $118 plus change for two signed books and a commercial. Uncle Rick (as my granddaughter calls him) did present his new group of reader who will also be writing mythological books. Unfortunately I think the time would have been better spent talking about his three new books about Percy Jackson and his friends since that’s why this particular group of people were there for. Speaking of time. Uncle Rick was not only late but then didn’t even spend an hour with his fans. I thought that was horrible but most disappointing portion of this tourist trap was standing in line after the show (which was a big pile of people) and then leaving empty handed because there wasn’t enough book bags and t shirts for the entire theater. My granddaughter was heart broken and so were other kids that I heard and talked to walking by to our car.

    Amazing experience!

by Mariel on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

Loved being able to be a part of this event. Not only is Rick a great writer, he is also a great speaker. The signed book and goodie back were great!

    Excellent!

    by P. G. Macer on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

The event was full of excitement and those of us who attended got exactly what we signed up for in having a beloved author talk about his latest book and the TV adaptation of the series. Family-friendly and a welcoming, positive atmosphere.

Came for the Gods, Stayed for the Vibes

by Skate on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

Such a fun experience! The crowd was filled with such lovely people and the venue was perfect. I had been to a few book related events before, but had never had a chance to see R. Riordan. Finally getting the chance AND having an experience filled with chatter about the book, excited conversations with fellow demigods, and a smooth entry and exit into the venue is something I’ll never forget. Definitely recommend!

    Best night ever

by Mamafriz on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

I have been reading his books since my 20 year old was 9. Now my 12 year old is obsessed with Rick. I got the tickets for her birthday and by the end she told me it was the “best night of her life.” It was very fun to hear him talk about his characters that we all love so much.

We paid for an in-person RR presents commercial

by Percy on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

I've been to a lot of book signings and author meet and greets. They're usually quite fun, informative, and have a personal nature to them. Authors aren't punctual, so I don't fault them for starting 20 minutes late. However, the event only lasted 40 minutes of very rehearsed discussion and banter, about half of which was talking about the other works being published by Rick Riordan presents. I get plugging the other authors and books, but it was overkill. The event also cost more than twice as much as the signed book, which they may have tried to compensate for by giving out free bags and t-shirts after the show, which was a giant crowded mess. Still, the 20 minutes that it was about Percy Jackson were good and my kids enjoyed the whole experience, even if my cynical side saw it as a money grab and not a gift to fans like signings usually are.

    A really cool infomercial

by Desi on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

I enjoyed the slide show and learning about Stacey Lee’s series. Disappointed because the information on the website about what to expect didn’t match. I didn’t hear any questions that came from audience members about the books as was described on the site. The site also said there was a book tour t-shirt that came with the signed book. There were Percy Jackson bags given out, but they ran out so not everyone received one. This is really shoddy as the theatre was sold out so it’s not like Disney didn’t know how many bags to send, especially if the bag was a replacement for the shirt. I did end up adding a few new books to my tbr list and had a blast hanging out with those I went with which is always the goal.

    Ecstatic and Wonderful

by God of Books on 9/30/23Alex Theatre - Glendale

Despite he didn't sign, it pretty exciting to see him again. He surprised us with awesome upcoming books and the TV show coming soon on Disney+.
