A Very Enjoyable Evening of Fantastic Music

by duchessoreo on 3/14/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

Absolutely loved the Music of James Bond with the Richmond Symhony. The conductor, Carl Davis, was an absolute delight, and Mary Crewe, fantastic to watch perform. I can only imagine how exciting it was for so many of the Richmond Symphony musicians to get to play with Mr. Davis and he seemed as enamored with them, and more than willing to share the accolades. Was so sorry when the music came to an end! Loved seeing the drum set front and center in the midst of the other musicians, and I know it was a thrill that Mr Davis called attention, for a specific round of applause, to the electric guitar player. Thanks so much for bringing this to Richmond. Mr Davis was most complimentary of the facilities, and I think the entire show was TOPS!

    James Bond was totally awesome!

by RIChokiebird on 3/14/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

From the theme song from James Bond to Another Day to Die, every song lived up to its name. After each selection, I couldn't wait to hear the next. The symphony was flawless and the addition of the soprano, Mary Carewe was awe inspiring. I loved the flair of Carl Davis and his enthusiasm for the music.

We loved it! I wish that they would've played the Dr No theme again at the end to tie everything back together, but that's my only complaint. The maestro shared so many fun facts. The soprano was amazing!

    Bond came alive!

by JCS1317 on 3/14/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

We thoroughly enjoyed the Richmond Symphony's Pop Concert on the Music of James Bond. I could tell there were a lot of other James Bond fans in the audience visualizing the opening scenes as the soundtrack of the movies was played for us. The Conductor was both humorous and knowledgable of the history of the James Bond series and the singing was right on key to heighten the experience. We definitely had a great evening!

    Wonderful high

by frogey on 3/14/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

I took a friend that had never been to the Symphony before and I thought this would be a great intro for him. He absolutely loved it and is ready to go back again. It was very uplifting and also to see the crowd respond so well. I was sitting next to a gentleman in a tux and when I sat down he greeted me with a big James Bond, GOOD EVENING, my name is Bond, James Bond. It was a great way to start the evening. It was high energy. The conductor was great and the singer which I wasn't expecting was also a real plus. Great night!!

    Symphonic Bond Melodies

by MissNiss on 3/14/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

What a fantastic show! The conductor was not only wonderfully talented but oh so entertaining. The soloist was incredible. And then there was our own incredible Richmond Symphony Orchestra. It all came together to produce one fabulous show. My 12-year-old son was online looking for downloads of the songs the following day. Looking forward to the 2011-2012 season and more family nights at the symphony.

Sound great, appearance not up to snuff

by Nell2nd on 3/8/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

Having seen the St Louis Symphony last year and before that, the Philadelphia Symphony, with their high level of professionalism and larger volume of instruments, I wasvery pleased with the fine level of performance by the Richmond Symphony. They were so focused, so intense and well rehearsed that it was a thrill. However, what distracts so prominentlly from their proficiency is the mismatched and at times sloppy and tacky clothing! Am so surprised that this issue has not been addressed before. It is quite messy looking and easily fixed so I would suggest that the issue unfairly influences the overall effect. What do other symphony orchestras do...do they provide clothing or subsidize more uniform clothing? Maybe an angel ( not this retiree!) could set up a fund? All of the musicians deserve to look better as befits their good poise, posture and talent!

The pre-concert, instrument petting zoo and main event was a great experience for my family. I would definately attend another performance and recommend it to my friends.

Great show! My two children 2 and 6 both enjoyed it. I would definitely go again. The only thing I wished they did was at the beginning of the show have each instrument group stand up one at a time while someone introduced them (i.e. Violins).

Great venue, great program, a very pleasant step back in time. I wish the audience had been more lively, NOT DEAD: I mean "just put those hands together and sing along" I loved the Contours!

I ;thought the overall program was very good although the orchestra and vocal selections of the first half could have been better given the diversity of those in attendance. It was just too slow and the selections unfamiliar to the majority of the group which took away from the work of both the orchestra and vocalist. The second half was most improved and the finale was outstanding and sent away everyone generally pleased with the performance. Keep up the good work. We are fortunate to have this orchestra in Richmond.

Evening at the Opera was stunning!

by MezSop on 1/17/11Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - Richmond

The evening was wonderful! The violins sounded like one beautiful, pure instrument, esp. opening "Dawn" by Britten. Kelley Nassief had a lovely voice that floated effortlessly with perfect placement and a rich, beautiful timbre, no matter which piece she was singing. The Richmond Symphony Chorus was exact, confident and professional as always. I'm no expert, but I was impressed with their French! The mix was perfect: From Britten to Ravel to Puccini...Thank you!
