Richard Thompson / Villa Montalvo
by leefromdanville on 12/7/09Montalvo - SaratogaRT is a consummate showmaster; I don't really think he is capable of doing a bad show, or anything less than an outstanding one for that matter. The 110 minute solo, all request concert was entertaining to the highest degree, and along with his writing and plucking talents, Richard's voice is as strong as ever. Ian Anderson, Greg Lake, Jagger, Daltrey.... so many of the other aging Brit kickers lost their vocal talents decades ago. Not Thompson! The Carriage House at Villa Montalvo is a killer small venue. Contrast it to Slims in San Francisco where he used to play frequently - one of the three worst dives I have ever been in - and it is indeed a night and day difference.
