Went to see Richard Elliott at the Attucks Theater this past weekend. I am a professional musician and devoted fan of Richard.
The musicians in his group are ALL OUTSTANDING in their own right. Experts on their axe, as is Richard.
The concert performance was excellent WITH ONE EXCEPTION!
The monitors "on stage" may have been set right for the band members BUT the sound engineer on the board needs to really consider the audience and do the same for them..Sound 101 - produce a balanced group sound.
The Bass Guitar was amped up so much that you could not hear a balanced group. The guitar, drums and keyboards were almost muffled out because of the BASS volume. The predominant instruments were Sax and Bass.
Richard, you're not down in the audience, so you can't hear what I heard. If you did, you would agree with me.
If Richard is reading this, please understand this is "constructive criticism". Your other musicians are just too great not to be heard and appreciated during ALL of your tunes, not just on their solos.
Hopefully you will pass this on to your engineer. This is pretty basic sound stuff!
