About

Rich Brian In Concert

From overnight YouTube sensation to the face of emerging Asian hip-hop, Brian Imanuel, better known as Rich Brian, has had a devoted fan base at his concerts since his debut U.S. Tour, Come to My Party. On the mic, the 19-year-old Indonesian rapper brings one part comedic banter in the shade of his idol Childish Gambino, and another part emotive wordplay layered atop dense, rhythmic production. Musically speaking, Brian's stage is stripped down to the old-school DJ and MC setup, but he flashes his tongue-in-cheek personality and distinct stylistic flair at every turn. A notably strong performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden saw Brian remove a trench coat to reveal a snakeskin tuxedo, as he danced through "Cold" with pizzazz. The moment served as an apt representation of who he is as an artist: More than just a product of the digital age, he's a face of hip-hop's global appeal. He's headlining the 88 Degrees & Rising Tour, leading the charge on a loaded lineup of Asian hip-hop's best young rappers, all on the 88 Degrees label.

Rich Brian Background

Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1999, Rich Brian learned to speak English watching YouTube clips and studying the deliveries of rappers like Macklemore, Kanye West, and Childish Gambino. When he was still known as Rich Chigga, he broke through with the viral video for his single "Dat $tick," which gained the attention of the rap community and has since clocked up over 100 million views. A name change, a record deal, and a move to Los Angeles later, Rich Brian's debut LP, ‘Amen,' peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard 200. Now under his belt Brian has an Indonesian Choice Awards Breakthrough Act of the Year accolade, collaborations with other artists including 21 Savage, Ghostface Killah, and Diplo, and a claim to the title of first Asian artist to hit No. 1 on the iTunes hip-hop charts.

Brian is my dad and my dad really pulled through for this show. I would have preferred more Rich Brian set time rather than Don Krez and August 08 set time (they still wildin tho). I also almost died in the pit but that’s okay bc it was for my dad. Man this dude sounds so good live. Everybody complaining that these nights has so much autotune and how Brian can sing it live but he KILLED IT MY MANZ MHMMMMMM. Thanks for the best night my dude I felt litty titty.

Joji and rich brian was the only one worth seeing

by Tteddy on 11/9/18Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

It's all cool if u like the other people from 88 I'm sure you would have loved it, but they just aren't for me, I only went for Brian and joji, but some of the acts in my opinion were almost too bad to sit through

    What happened...?

by pizzaqueen666 on 10/23/18Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land - Sugar Land

First of all, Rich Brian was amazing. So was KOHH, Niki, August08, Higher Brothers and Joji. However, this is a review for the 88rising tour as a whole. Kieth Ape was on the lineup and he DID NOT PLAY. HE WAS NOT THERE. What makes that worse is that there was no explanation or any kind of update from 88rising or the venue. I, along with everyone in the audience, paid money for these tickets. We were promised something and were not given what we paid for, not even any kind of update as to what was going on. No one knows why an artist promised in the lineup never showed. Like, I feel BAD for people who purchased these tickets solely to see Kieth Ape, cause they got scammed. On top of that, the rest of the artist's sets seemed rushed and cut short. I think Joji only played like 4-5 songs. And at the end, when they sang Midsummer Sadness, Joji and Higher Brothers didn't even come on stage and the song wasn't even sang to completion.

Rich Brian and the other 88rising were Magical

    by BigRed2000 on 10/17/18Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

This was my first concert I had ever gone to. The venue was gorgeous and the wait time to get in wasnt bad at all. I ended up pretty close to the stage which was awesome. Each performer did really well. Sen Morimoto was the opener and was unfortunately under appreciated by the crowd. Even so, his performance was one of the most exciting parts for me because of his talented saxophone performance. He really stood out. The other groups between played very well, but not as many familiar songs as I thought there would be. The biggest hype was for Joji and Brian who really made the whole show worth it. Joji killed it with his new Ballads and brought such a cute and unique energy to the room. He even showed off his new juggling skills and wore a hat with a spinner on it. He had the whole venue singing along and performed really well. I really came to the show for Rich Brian and he did not disappoint. Brian had an incredible stage energy and moved the crowd. His music was awesome and had me screaming along. Then finally when all the 88 crew came together at the end, my heart was full and I was so satisfied with the money I spent to see them. I will definitely be seeing them again.

    by Samy0708 on 10/17/18Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

It was super amazing! There was never a dull moment and the crowd was always entertained. The opening artist was so great and is now one of my new favorite artists. The entire night felt so unreal but it was so unforgettable and everyone was so into all the music and the artists. It truly was the best ever.

    Best. Concert. Ever.

by IanSucher on 10/16/18The Fillmore Detroit presented by Cricket Wireless - Detroit

To me you know it’s a good concert when your snapchat story is 13 and a half minutes long. The colorful lights of each artist on their set made it feel almost magical and the energy displayed by each of the performers was incredible. The one problem I had with the concert was that the sets of each artist was short even though there are a lot of artists performing. My highlight of the concert was singing the chorus of SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK as loud as I could with everyone in the concert. I’ve only been to 5 concerts in my life and this tops every performance I’ve ever been to. 10/10. This will be a night that I will always remember and it just goes to show. 88rising is double happiness.
