    Rent in Akron:)

by Adrianna on 1/24/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

The cast was AMAZING! I was blown away by the Broadway potential in this cast. I can’t wait to see more from this company in the future. This was an amazing experience and I couldn’t be happier to have seen some of Jonathan Larson’s work live on stage.

Rent was fantastic. Theatre needs some attention.

by Diana on 1/18/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

The play itself was wonderful. It could not have been performed better. These performers did a wonderful job. But the theatre was extremely crowded. It was actually uncomfortable. Thank God there was no fire or emergency that would have required a fast evacuation. While speaking to the person next to me, I found out that she had thought she purchased the last seat in that row. However, I was in the last seat. After talking to a few other people, we found out this was the case for many people. Evidently, the management added seats to increase ticket sales. I would recommend adding more performances - perhaps some matinees - when the ticket sales indicate a high demand. Also, I was sitting in the A seat in the last row of chairs. I couldn't hear anything for the entire first act. The sound was garbled.

    Fabulous!

by JenJohn on 1/18/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

It was a great adaptation. Singing spot on, the entire cast, musicians, manager, and all the support staff are to be stand up applauded. Wonderful evening out, telling everyone I know to go.

    Left at intermission

by New to Ohio on 1/18/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

To give some background I am used to attending musicals of varying levels and have performed as well. This was the most underwhelming experience I have ever had. Upon entry there was little to know direction. I wasn’t asked for a ticket. I can’t tell if it wasn’t expected of me to attend the show or if it was assumed I was retreating from the cold. I was standing waiting with my phone out on the ticket screen for a few minutes before a group of people came in, stepped in front of me and were ushered in. It was then that I finally was given entry. The play itself was ok. The acting was fine. The vocals left much to be desired. The actresses had quality singing voices, the actors were pitchy and probably should not have been singing. The sound quality of the voices were great quality but the backing music didn’t have the same quality. It looked like a lot of work was put into the over all logistics so I want to give props for that. This just was not the kind of experience I would have liked. I left at intermission. I will likely never attend that theatre again.

by Sav on 1/18/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

Every cast member deserves and oscar. I couldnt look away I was so amazed and how well rent was portrayed. I had the time of my life and wish I could have gone the following weekend.

    RENT forever!

by Sommelier59 on 1/18/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

A talented cast for sure! A wonderful production of RENT on the small, quaint ACT - Knight’s stage. Also, hats off to the 3 musicians who were absolutely brilliant at their craft. Kudos All!

    Great musical...poor performance

by SHTucson on 11/9/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

As much as I was looking forward to seeing RENT again, we left at intermission. We were seated in the center section, orchestra, row Z. We could not understand a word the players were singing. The sound mix was just wrong. Not so bad for me, I know the songs and the story frontward and backward. But for my friend, who was seeing RENT for the first time, and who said to me at intermission "I don't have the slightest idea what anyone is saying," it was tragic. I recommend the musical...I don't recommend this performance.

    A must see goody

    by 987outtahere on 11/8/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

I have gone to Rent about three times now over the years and this performance did not disappoint. Rent is one of my top favorite musicals that has been a must see when it comes to town. In this tour Maureen and Tom Collins stole the show with their outstanding vocals and acting. Prices were reasonable. There was plenty of seating. The stewards did a good job directing people to their seats. The seats are not very comfortable but not very many theater seats are. The acoustics were good in the hall. Overall this show is a must see!

Sound system was too loud. At times you could not understand the words being sung.

    Second Rate But Enjoyable

    by ArizonaRoadrunner2016 on 11/8/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

I saw Rent 20 years ago when it first came out and it was spectacular. While I enjoyed this 2017 show since the music is so good, I was disappointed in the quality of the voices. The cast was second rate and the voices were not as strong as they should have been. Aaron Alcaraz and Sammy Ferber stood out as superior to the rest. Lyndie Moe who played Maureen ruined "Over the Moon" by taking an already exaggerated spoof and exaggerating 10X more. Awful.

    Disappointing

by priscillagoodbody on 11/8/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

I had never seen Rent before, and was excited to go. We had good seats - Row N on the main floor. That said, the sound system was so horrible, or so badly adjusted for the generally terrible acoustics in Centennial Hall, that we had two problems. None of us could understand the lyrics - maybe that is partly the singers, but we think it's mostly acoustics. AND there were times when the louder music literally hurt our ears! What a shame. So, while I was able, with great concentration, to figure out most of what was going on, I don't think it should be that much work. And this experience sort of reinforces our decision this year not to renew our subscription to Broadway in Tucson. It just doesn't work in Centennial Hall.

If you have the $ go see RENT

by Virgibell on 11/7/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

Roger's character was overly done. Maureen's performance was bad. But let's remember, that this cast is a traveling one, and is not as experienced as the company performing in Broadway. If you went to Broadway shows, the traveling companies do not compared. Overall, grateful that they came to Tucson.

    Rent-pay it or go

by jacgirl on 11/7/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

I had seen a production of Rent several years ago, so I was aware of the story line. I brought with me a younger person who was not. Much of the performance was spent in explanation of the social context of the play. Perhaps that is why I didn't find this group of actors very energetic and their voices for the most part not up to the standard i'm accustomed to hearing. If I hadn't brought a person with me to the performance I would not have stayed past intermission.

    Great show, disappointing venue

    by mjb85210 on 11/7/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

Rent is a fantastic musical, but it was ruined by the terrible acoustics at Centennial Hall. Unless it was a solo, you couldn’t decipher what the cast was singing. I overheard this complaint from many people as we left the show. What a shame. I won’t ever see another show here.

    Don't Rent it

    by GoBlue7 on 11/6/17Centennial Hall - Tucson

I had heard so much about this play and and I was so excited to see it . Big disappointment feel their is a lot of hype and more of just a following for it and it really didn't have much substance or quality to the play. The lyrics were hard to understand when they were singing. I noticed that a lot of people didn't return after the intermission also their were a lot of empty seats after the intermission. I have seen a lot of plays in my time I wouldn't recommend this one.
