RELIENT K IN CONCERT:

More than a decade after their powerful pop punk anthems launched them to stardom, Relient K continues to be a reliably awesome live act. Longtime fans will be ecstatic to hear a setlist packed with throwback favorites like "High Of 75" and "Be My Escape" along with tracks from the band's later releases, including 2013's Collapsible Lung. Frontman Matt Thiessen is especially entertaining onstage, captivating concertgoers with his personable and funny banter. With their fast-paced pop jams and emotionally charged sets, these Christian rockers always deliver a high-octane concert experience that leaves ticket buyers begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Vocalist Matt Thiessen, guitarist Matt Hoopes, and bassist Brian Pittman formed Relient K in 1998 in Canton, Ohio. The group incorporated spiritual themes into their pop punk tunes, quickly becoming a staple of the Christian rock scene. Christian label Gotee Records signed the band and released their self-titled debut album in 2000. They quickly amassed a huge following thanks to a heavy touring schedule and a catalog of upbeat tunes brimming with clever pop culture references. Their third album, 2003's Two Lefts Don't Make A Right...But Three Do, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album. In 2004 the group achieved mainstream stardom with the release of their fourth album Mmhmm, which spawned the Top 40 hits "Be My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been". The record debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart after receiving heavy radio airplay and exposure on MTV. Their next album,  2007's Five Score And Seven Years Ago, became their biggest hit to date, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. In 2014 Relient K announced a nationwide tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mmhmm, generating considerable excitement among fans before hitting the road with an updated lineup consisting of Thiessen, Hoopes, guitarist Jon Schneck, drummer Dave Douglas, and bassist John Warne, who replaced Pittman after his departure in 2004.

    Relient K in ROCKchester

by Gummibear2834 on 7/16/09Water Street Music Hall - Rochester

I had never heard the openers before (Deas Vail, Rookie of the Year, Owl City). However, I am now completely obsessed with Deas Vail and Owl City. The music was perfect to set up Relient K. All the styles went very well. It was a great show!!!!

    Awesome

by Kashmoney on 7/15/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Relient K was fantastic. They played some of their new stuff, which was great. They also played some fun covers, as usual. They played a wide range of their stuff, from old to B sides to new. The Classic Crime was a great opener too.

Reliant K, Classic Crime and Owl City was AMAZING!

by TCCLover on 7/14/09INDIGO DISTRICT - Eugene

To be honest i mainly went for The Classic Crime - my most favorite band in the whole wide world - and Owl City, But i really enjoyed Reliant K they performed very well and were pretty funny. Especially doing the 5 dollar foot long song and the theme from The Office.

    Awesomeness

    by hag3 on 7/14/09Glass House - Pomona

This was my first time at the Glass House and it was a lot of fun! The venue is a good size. I wasn't in the front, but I still felt close to the bands (it helped that I was taller than most people in the audience haha). The opening bands were awesome and a lot of fun to watch. Relient K was amazing!!! This was my first time seeing them live and it was even better than I expected. They rocked the place and it was awesome.

by laurafee on 7/14/09Glass House - Pomona

let me start by saying the opening band was TERRIBLE. never go see Runner Runner, they are awful. they play to tracks and the can't really even sing. now, moving on. Owl City was amazing!! Adam is such a cute little nerd! he had this awesome video running behind them, and he did an amazing remix of Hello Seattle as the opener. so great. then Relient K came on. man i love them, they just never get old! i've seen them about 15 times and i still love them every time i go :D Relient K is amazing. truly entertaining. very talented guys. they played two new songs which were awesome. ahh! the show was just incredible. go see them!!

    Times & Clubs

by NowiseWhiphand on 7/14/09Glass House - Pomona

Relient K, as usual was perfect. Tight, flawless, full of energy. The only downsides were that the ticket purchased only said Relient K & 7pm. Relient K went on around 10:30pm. There were two opening bands, I forget the first one entirely, but the second one was, "Owl City" which I left after 30 seconds of the first song. I just can't get into guys head banging to techno, pounding on their synthesizers. The only other thing was, as is common in a lot of small clubs (Like the House of Blues), was that The Glass House air conditioning is non-existent so you're standing in 100 degree humid elbow to elbow floor w/the smell of farts & B.O. I don't think I'm getting old so much as those kind of venues are. Club Nokia is the best.

    Awesome Relient K

    by 4forRelientK on 7/14/09Glass House - Pomona

The concert was all that I had imagined and more. They mix new songs with old ones. The last time I saw them, it was too short of a concert. But this time, they played for an hour and half. They came out for an encore playing "Deathbed," which was the first time I've heard it live..tremendous. The venue was OK only...a little warm inside but we had a great view.

Relient k is amazing..but not a fan of Indigo

    by Jess5 on 7/14/09INDIGO DISTRICT - Eugene

I love relient k and it was one of the best relient k concerts! But the Indigo District was very small and the stage sucked. They over sold the event and it was completly stuffed. Very hot and stuffy and smelled like sweat. But it was worth seeing Relient k. Oh and they did have a place to order food or water which was nice. The opening bands were pretty cool and it was exciting that relient k played in Eugene!

    Relient K never disappoints!

by melv on 7/13/09Glass House - Pomona

Even though the whole night seemed to be running late and relient k only played for just over an hour, they were amazing!! They got the crowd pumped up right away and kept the energy up the entire time until the end, when they tried to calm us all down with "Deathbed." Opening night of the tour and Matt T. said that our SoCal crowd was awesome, as always. :)

    Relient K is amazing!

by NinjaKelsey on 7/13/09INDIGO DISTRICT - Eugene

This was my second Relient K concert and they are fabulous! They played some of their new songs off their upcoming album which sounded really good. I can't wait for it to hit the stores. The Indigo District however was way too small. Next time around I hope they choose a larger venue.

    Great Concert!!

by GordoDustin on 7/13/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Relient K did an amazing job. Lots of energy even on a small stage. They can really get a crowd moving. The first band a perfect crime was really good to. But the band right before relient k sucked. Overall, a great show. worth every penny
