About

Daughter of a music professor; trained classically in her home country of Russia, Regina's passion for music was clear from childhood.  Once she completed her studies she moved to the Bronx, New York and her life has never been the same. Influenced by her Russian and Jewish roots, as well her new love for the city Regina's songwriting took off. It was in the underground music scene of the East Village where she found fame. Still, her music is always evolving, channeling  influences like Chopin, Janis Joplin, to experimenting with unusual instruments and vocal styles, Regina never ceases to surprise.
After a number of self-funded and distributed albums, she finally got her first proper release in 2004 when Warner Brothers re-released her 2003 self-released album Soviet Kitsch. She released the highly anticipated follow-up album, Begin To Hope, in 2006. The single from the album, "Fidelity", was a big hit and helped the album peak at number 20 in the US Billboard chart. Her fifth full album, Titled Far, was a smash hit, it entered the US charts at number three and raised Regina's profile worldwide. In 2010 she performed at President Obama's reception at the White House. Her latest album, titled What We Saw from the Cheap Seats also entered the US album chart at number three.

Regina first toured nationally with The Strokes and this was quickly followed by a tour supporting The Kings of Leon, where she played in front of many famous venues at max capacity, like the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. A series of headline theater shows followed the release of the album Far and in recent years she has made frequent appearances during the European Summer Festival season. Away from music, Regina does a great deal of work for human rights charities and has raised money for Doctors Without Borders helping earthquake victims.

An inspiration! She made me who I am.

by RoboginaSpektor on 7/13/09El Rey - Los Angeles

I have attended 7 live Regina Spektor concerts to date in 7 different cities and each one is completely inspirational and unique. Small clubs, to large arenas and school basketball courts---she delivers. I attended her performance last time she played the El Rey and it was a great experience. The people and fans are wonderful. She has a wonderful personality that comes out on stage that you don't get from just listening to the music. Her interaction with the audience makes this a true event and makes each event unique even when she plays similar sets. She has created a simple show that is playful and not repetitious. Changing instruments, including other participants or band members on stage with her. If you are a fan of Regina Spektor you will not be let down. All of her shows have been memorable experiences in my life. Even with a large crowd she is able to create intimate moments where she truly connects with you. You may feel she is looking directly at you. My recommendation is you go. Know the songs. She may surprise you with ones she's never released. It will be fun. You may be inspired to go home and build a robot. Like the people who built me attended a show, they went home and made me from small parts and now I sing her songs. Not that you'll be inspired to build a robot, but maybe you will be inspired to become great at that thing you always wanted to do. Or just have an amazing moment with your friends. Be prepared to wait awhile between the opening act and her performance. Also if the event has no tickets available now---keep checking back. With El Rey last time, I didn't get in at first, but more tickets opened up. You have to stay on top of it. There won't be people selling tickets outside of the event. Also go early to stand up front.

See the little things for what they're worth

by HoundCat on 7/10/09El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Regina Spektor was brought to my attention by a very silly and clever J.C. Penny commercial. A small segment of "Music Box" accompanied the visuals of the commercial, but stimulated my curiosity enough to find out who performed the song that was introduced. When I located the track, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the rest of the song took on a very different style that brought a smile to my face. After listening to more of her tracks, I discovered the amazing talent that she has and her ability to see the wonders that exist within what many of us would consider little things to which we would not give a second thought. Regina Spektor writes and performs songs that will take you to a place where you haven't thought about since you were a child without a care in the world. Her music is far from childish, but it paints a picture of things as we used to see them when they were wondrous sights. Let Regina Spektor take you to a place that you forgot existed within yourself. You will enjoy every moment of her performance and her amazing talent.
