Red Hot Chilli Peppers on Tour

To many, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are more than just a Los Angeles rock band from the '80s -- they're musical pioneers who took the world by storm with their eclectic blend of funky, alternative punk rock laced with hip-hop that sounded unlike anything anyone had heard before. The band first formed in Los Angeles in 1983 and quickly gained a following large enough to sell 300,000 copies of their debut self-titled album. Over the next few years, the band experimented with different musical genres and went through lineup changes, proving themselves to be one of the most innovative and resilient rock groups in recent history. In 2022, the Grammy-winning band released Unlimited Love -- their 12th studio album and first one with original guitarist John Frusciante since 2006's Stadium Arcadium. Celebrating the release of the new album, the band hit the road for a global tour featuring all four original members -- vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and Frusciante.  Be sure to see this legendary ensemble back in action performing classic hits and new songs by grabbing tickets to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in a city near you today.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers Live in Concert

In 1987, Red Hot Chili Peppers were named Band of the Year by LA Weekly, but the band really hit their stride with their fourth album, 1989's Mother's Milk, which cracked the Billboard 200 and went gold a year later. The RHCP had earned worldwide recognition by the time they dropped Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). The album reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and the album's first single, "Give It Away," took off like wildfire, soaring to the top of the charts and eventually winning the band a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal in 1993. The album also featured the single "Under the Bridge," which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- their highest-charting single to date. To promote what some might call the Red Hot Chili Peppers' magnum opus, 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, three of the era's biggest bands -- Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam -- joined the Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour as opening acts. Whenever it was time for the headlining set to come on, seeing the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in concert would always feel like an invigorating burst of energy for all the people packed into sold-out stadiums. Their funk-rap breakdowns, animated stage presence, and minimal clothing attire offered relief from the brooding grunge of the punk-metal status quo. All in all, Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a tremendous commercial success, selling 12 million copies to date, cinching the #186 position on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 500 Albums of All Time, and winning three out of the seven MTV Music Award nominations it received.

The band made the Rolling Stone Top 500 list a second time with Californication (1999), their seventh studio album and most successful yet with 16 million copies sold. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers supported the album on tour for two consecutive years at sold-out venues across the world. The album lit a californi-craze for the RHCP that has burned steady since. The first live album, recorded during a 2004 Red Hot Chilli Pepper concert in Hyde Park, was the No. 1 event of the year on Billboard's Top Concert Boxscores with a record-breaking number of 258,000 fans and a total of over $17 million in tickets sold in the span of three nights.

Since then, they've been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2012), released a handful of more albums: 2006's Stadium Arcadium, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200; 2011's I'm With You, which hit No. 2; and 2016's The Getaway, which also peaked at No. 2.

Show was amazing! Neighboring fans, not so much.

by Dana213 on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

The Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked, played plenty of old and new hits, and brought a lot of energy to the show. The attendees that were around us were drunk, smoking (cigs and other illegal substances, where no smoking was allowed indoors), and rowdy. The band was awesome, I'd just recommend staying away from the cheap seats.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers

by GeorgiaGirl11 on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

Enjoyed the Red Hot Chili Peppers although sometimes the music was so loud that I couldn't here the lyrics, They performed a great concert with lots of energy. The opening act was terrible. Still trying to figure out how they were chosen. Would recommend the concert.

    great show

by Yepaer on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

Overall it was a great show. The only thing that i had to complain is that the sound of the opening band wasn't very good at the third floor; however, i was relocated to the 1st floor for the RHCP show & it totally improved, so I don't know if it was the band or the actual sound system. Other than that, awesome show & exceptional customer service from the Tampa Bay Times Forum Staffing.

    RHCP's Tampa show

by Wayniac001 on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

RHCP's came on with high energy as expected. Great light show and other stage effects. Flea was the glue, and the guitarist provided high energy. They made a political statement early on in the concert that did not need to be made in a musical entertainment venue. They also missed on the encore and not performing several key songs. To summate, glad we saw them but would not see them again.

    RHCP killed it!

by Binkybunny944 on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

RHCP were phenominal. One of the best concerts I've been to,and I've been to alot of concerts. They just came out and rocked it, no bells and whistles, just rocked. They are one of those bands that actually sound better live than on the radio. My only disappointment is they didn't play soul to squeeze.

RHC were amazing, opening act, not so much

by Lokerpoker85 on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

The Red Hot Chili Peppers were awsome!!. After what seemed to be a 5-19 minute long standing ovation, after exiting the stage, the band came back out to play another song! The opening act (Santigold) was disappointing. Her genre of music just didn't fit with what I was going to see. Would have a fit pop concert better.

Really awesome show. I never heard of Santigold before but she was a pretty good opening act. The band was really energetic and everyone looked like they were having a good time.

    RHCP on fire!!

by Jubs on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

Great Performance! Wish I could see them again soon. Every member of the band displayed their musical talent. It's amazing that a band can still play so great together! I did not sit down during the show once and my voice was horse that night...if that says anything:-)

    21 years in the making...

by Casajuez on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

I've been a fan of the RHCP since 1991 and have been waiting for my opportunity to see them live. They absolutely rocked the house with greatest hits and new hits. The relatively new guitarist is solid and Anthony and the drummer are fantastic. Flea, well he is just amazing. The show has great energy and the stage was out of this league. Thank you RHCP for rocking it like you only can. 21 year wait to see you live was well worth it!

    Still Got It Guys!!!

by OneMoreChiliLover on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

I'm a 46 year old guy who has loved the Chili Peppers from the beginning. They have always been a very special energy in my life and when their songs have come on the radio they've taken me away for a bit from some very tough times and brought me higher during during the good times. The concert brought me back and I danced like a fool. A GREAT time and a great performance. Keep rockin' till you can't rock no mo!!! Oh yeah, your addition of Josh Klinghoffer was perfect. From my side of the stage, he's damned good, easy on the eyes and does the band justice.

    Worth the wait

by Unhoodie on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

No doubt one of the best live sounds around. The opener was not just a disappointment but painful to see and hear.

Red Hot Chili Peppers RED HOT

by trixiescruffy on 3/31/12Tampa Bay Times Forum - Tampa

They were great, opening act was wretched. sets were fascinating. wish people would sit down so others c(like us) could see and guess no smoking doesn't include you-know-what! The RHCPs were wonderful, great talent, very engaging, well worth it. The opening act was so strange, so no-talent. getting out after was a nightmare, need to put up signage saying which lanes let you turn left or right, took an extra 40 minutes to get home. overall, a great night.

Opening band was terrible. However Red Hot came on and saved the day!! Great music, great energy, my only regret was how short it was, only an hours and 15 minutes...;(
