    Raul Malo acoustics and accordian

by Pikeboys on 4/22/10Birchmere - Alexandria

While I was hoping for a large band accompanying Raul, this show turned out to be acoustic with an accordian/concertina only. Initially, I thought it might be a tad too quiet for what I wished, but Michael Guerra's great accordian work really compliments Raul's guitar and powerful vocals. A very nice mix of Mavericks' favorites, Raul's solo works, and covers ("Around the World" was beautiful). While I hope to see Raul someday with a big band and horns, this still was a wonderful night with a warm performance that truly made everyone happy. The only damper were the IDIOTS two tables over who just could not get the message that we were there to hear the MUSIC, not their inane LOUD chatter over the songs. All tables surrounding these morons "shussed" them, to no avail. Finally, a woman got up, and in their face, told them in no uncertain terms to shut up. It worked.

Raul @ The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA

    by CR13 on 4/22/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Raul Malo came solo this tour - meaning Raul and his guitar and an Accordianist named Johnathon - who was WONDERFUL. Raul was in great voice and the show was wonderful!

    Another great Raul Malo evening

    by Susans424 on 4/22/10Birchmere - Alexandria

He's one of a kind, this time backed up by a remarkable concertina player. Old favorites, some new songs, and more banter with the audience than I ever remember. Always a highlight of the year to see Raul.

Raul Malo - He stands alone...

by JCorky on 4/22/10Birchmere - Alexandria

I've seen many a show in my time, but I have never heard a voice like Raul's - EVER! His voice is somewhere between Elvis and Pavarotti...It was the best show I've ever seen at the Birchmere and I've seen plenty.

    Raul rocks!

by TShebell on 4/22/10Birchmere - Alexandria

This man has the most beautiful voice imaginable and he knows how to use it in English and in Spanish; some of his songs are so bouncy you want to jump up and dance and then some are so soulful it makes you cry. The show was quite a ride.

Raul Malo has an exquisit voice and performs an array of old songs and new numbers. He is a standout performer whether playing acoustic or with a band and is generous to the audience with an encore performance. Must not be missed next time in town!

    Fantastic Raul

by Doed on 4/22/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Once again Raul Malo gave a marvelous performance. He's a wonderful showman and his voice and songs are incomparable. His fellow artist, playing the accordian was fantastic as well. I only wish Mr. Malo had more albums out and I eagerly await his all Spanish album. Hopfully he will visit the Birchmere again in the near future.

    Raul was in fine form

by lew2 on 4/17/10Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

Great show in a small setting and totally acoustic. Raul's voice was beautiful as always and it was great to hear those songs stripped down to the original arrangements. Although there were just Raul and his accompanist Michael on concertinas, they sound was full and I was impressed by the their level of musicianship. Raul is certainly a fine guitarist on his own. A big sound from that small Spanish guitar. All in all, a great show and I'm glad I went.

    Raul Malo was GREAT!

by Peeper on 4/17/10Showcase Live - Foxboro

The show was great! We missed having more of his band initially, but his side kick was fantastic! Also, because the band was not present, we could clearly hear Raul's phenominal voice...WOW! As usual, Raul engaged the auduience and played for quite a long time! Please come back to Patriot Place~

Malo surprised me, is was a great show

by pspsteve on 4/15/10Showcase Live - Foxboro

Malo was recommended to me by my mother in law, and fiance, so I decided to go and I was pleasantly surprised. He has an amazing voice and makes a guitar sound incredible. His partner on the accordian was also amazing, they both added my interest in their music. I truly hope he returns for another show, it was a great time and experience for an old rock and roller.

Malo has the greatest voice on the planet.

by Glindagwn on 4/15/10Showcase Live - Foxboro

What a fantastic singer he is. The show was low key... just Raul, a guitar, and an accordion player. But what an accordion player! Raul was in fine voice, and very loose. It was clear he was having fun. I LOVE this venue... Showcase Live. Arrive an hour early, have a little something to eat (good food and reasonable prices) and then relax and enjoy the show. A great, great night out.

    Raul At His Best

by BCARDO on 4/15/10Showcase Live - Foxboro

This was his best show ever! I saw him twice when he was with the Maveric's, then once at the Paradise in Boston and this was the third time at Showcase Live at Patriot Place, Foxboro which, in my opinion, is the best venue. Very intimate. Usually he has a band with him. This time, he was accompanied by a fantastic musician that plays a mean accordian. I know, "accordian" you say? Yes, that was my first thought too when Michael started playing but it didn't take me long to realize what fantastic music he could make with his fast fingering on the intrument. I've always thought that Raul should be a one man show with his beatitiful voice & fantastic guiter playing but having Michael accompany him just made it all the better.

    Awesome!

by nocountryfan on 4/6/10Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

Let me start out that I can't stand country music. I believe however what Raul does is simply fantastic. The accordion player rocks and Raul can play a mean guitar. That voice, that unforgettable voice that reminded me of Roy Orbison. Then to close the show he sings one of his songs? It was magical. Bravo!!!! After the show he came to greet his friends and took pictures and signed autographs. No concert I ever went to I've seen this. Raul, you're my new hero.

    Malo Muy Bueno

by jawbreaker69 on 4/5/10Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

An amazing voice--think of a Latin Roy Orbison--and a down-to-earth, muy amable stage presence combine to make for an unforgettable performance. At Blueberry Hill's Duck Room, every seat in the house is up close and personal, so you can almost reach out and touch the performers (and, in fact, we were able to shake Malo's hand at the end of his encore). If you get the chance to catch Malo's performance, you'll also get to enjoy his phenomenal accordian playing sidekick--who knew an accordian could even be phenomenal???

    Raul Rules!

by Puddinking on 4/5/10Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

St. Louis, ...One of the greatest voices you will hear in pop music! This was our second time seeing/hearinfg Raul and he and his partner on accordian were fantastic. Plenty of Mavericks hits as well as tunes from his solo projects. They opened with a great version of "Lucky One", one of my favorites but with a new spin. Both times we have seen Raul he displays an amazing voice, wonderful guitar parts, and enjoyable stage presence....don't miss this show!
