About

As if channeling another dimension where genres simply don't exist, Rainbow Kitten Surprise finds harmony in unpredictability - weaving together lyrical poetry, hummable melodies, and a rush of instrumental eccentricities. Now boasting over 2 billion global streams across platforms, the band first began building their devoted fanbase with independent albums SEVEN + MARYĀ (2013) and RKS (2015). The band's breakout full-length debut for Elektra, HOW TO: FRIEND, LOVE, FREEFALL, arrived in April 2018. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Lainey Wilson), the album featured RIAA-certified Platinum single "It's Called: Freefall," earned widespread praise from Billboard, TIME, Vice, and NPR who described their sound as "...a mix of jam and indie and whatever else you can throw into the soup...very earnest, beautiful, political, loving rock n' roll," and saw the band make several national television appearances, including performances on "CBS Saturday Morning," "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," and PBS's "Austin City Limits." After gracing the bills of Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Osheaga, to name a few, RKS moved 80,000 tickets of their own on the sold-out 2018/2019 Friend, Love, Freefall Tour. That tour was earmarked by a sold-out debut at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and three consecutive gigs in Athens, GA (the latter of which were chronicled on their first official live album, LIVE FROM ATHENS GEORGIA, released in 2021).

The band released a two-track single Mary (B-Sides) in May 2019 - consisting of "Heart" and "No Vacancy." The following year brought the release of standalone single "Our Song" - already a fan favorite in their live rotation prior to release - as well as a livestream concert in July, held for thousands of fans on what would've been the date of another sold-out Red Rocks performance (cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). In March 2022, the band released the emotionally charged track "Work Out," marking their first new music in nearly two years.

2022 also saw the band set out on their first full headline trek in nearly 3 years, a run that included their long-awaited, sold-out, two-night return to Red Rocks. And in 2022 alone, with the help of partners PLUS1 and Propeller, Rainbow Kitten Surprise raised over $170k for food banks in local tour markets, LGBTQ+ causes, and mental health initiatives.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise is: Ela Melo (she/her; lead vocals), Darrick "Bozzy" Keller (he/him; guitar, vocals), Ethan Goodpaster (he/him; lead guitar, vocals), Jess Haney (he/him; drums)

by Breezy on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

RKS is hands down the best concert that I have ever been to. It truly felt like I was watching a close-knit family on stage with how much fun they had with each other. I can't wait to see them again

    A BIT DISORGANIZED

by NATHAN FROM NA$HVILLE on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

Unlike most attendees (I suspect), my wife and I were there to see the opening act, who apparently started promptly at 8PM. We arrived at 8PM and stood in line for about 15 minutes before someone from the venue finally walks out and tells everyone, "If your tickets are for general admission, you have to enter the other side of the building." This would have been helpful info *up-front*. No signage, nothing. We ended up catching 2 songs for $140 in tickets. That kinda sucked.

Amazing band. Venue management needs help.

by Jbtate23 on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

RKS put on an amazing show as always. Acoustics are great in the venue and the overall show was great. But it took 35 minutes to get a beer because management requires their bartenders to pour every can of beer into a plastic cup. It would be a shame to see a historic venue shuttered due to poor management because I will hesitate to go to another show at Municipal for that reason.

Rainbow šŸŒˆ Kitten šŸˆā€ā¬› Surprise šŸ˜®

by Epeters on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

The sounds was perfect! The visuals were beautiful! The light show along with the music amazing I couldnā€™t ask for more. However, my only complaint is if people want to stand during a concert then purchase the general admission standing room only ticket. People that actually pay for a seat want to sit down and enjoy the view from that point. When one person chooses to stand then another person stands it systematically sets off a chain reaction thru the crowd. No one can see in the seated sections unless they choose to stand or they are 6ft tall. Which makes for a rather salty concert considering how much people are paying for concert tickets these days. Another thing the man in front us refused to enter and exit the isle in the normal fashion. He had to cross over the rows with beer in hand appearing to already be intoxicated. Almost spilling his beer all over me and my daughter had I not grabbed his beer to prevent this from happening. Then the people behind us talked non stop throughout the whole concert. Why did you even come to the concert? Stay home and visit with each other. At this point I would like to try streaming some of these bands for a better experience. If this is what I am getting for a ticket experience it isnā€™t worth what I am paying for at Ticketmaster.

    You will be hooked

by AddictedToMusic on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

If you just like RKS- you need to go. You will be hooked. Never have I heard a band sound as close to their recordings- but with even more passion. And they are beyond entertaining - not just Ella, but the entire band is engaged. They love what they are doing, and they feed off of the crowd. Yes, it is impossible to describe the music genre of RKS. But it is universal - I am a 56 year old grandmother who has introduced the band to my daughter and granddaughter, and we had an unbelievable time experiencing the show together. Go. You won't be disappointed.

Show was great! Almost missed itā€¦

by Val on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

We are huge fans! Drove to Nashville from Spartanburg SC for the show. I had no idea there would be no official parking for the venue! After the third full parking garage and not a spot in sight, we really thought we might miss the show. It was super stressful! My daughters friend found a spot online, we paid $40 for it (I thought it might be a scam)and it turned out to be legit. We had to walk several blocks and the show had started by the time we got there but what we saw of it was great!

    Great experience!

by Katie on 12/13/22Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

I will say that the line to get in was extremely long even with three entrances, but given the amount of people there, I felt as though staff moved efficiently through everyone. Every single staff member I came in contact with was so friendly and positive, and I really appreciate great customer service. I also enjoyed the seating and concessions. Nice choices in snacks and drinks compared to most venues.

    Phenomenal Show!

by CCC on 12/11/22The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Rainbow Kitten Surprise did not disappoint! Everything was fantastic, from the staff working the door and around the theater helping folks find their seats to the light show, the music/mic volume, and the artists themselves. 10/10 would absolutely recommend! Only complaint was the line for beverages was way too long and took way too long to get through, especially for those of us who just drink water!
