I really like the RTRV band/performance and absolutely hate the new Duomo venue at Rio Hotel/Casino.
I have been a diehard RTRV fan since day one, and I have followed them with every venue change around Las Vegas. I was recently there for opening night at the Rio’s Duomo (on June 17, 2022) and, aside for the performance of the band, I couldn’t have been more disappointed.
First off, nobody goes to the Rio anymore because it is a rundown dark and dingy hotel/casino. I was hoping more for this alleged “NEW” Duomo venue but surprise, the Duomo turns out to be more of a low ceiling garage with people boxed in literally wall-to-wall (on stackable chairs). Also, the seats I handpicked online were moved into a different configuration, which upset me.
The whole venue is way too small and I feel sorry for the band. They are visibly cramped on a tiny stage fighting for space, and at times they awkwardly bumped into each other.
In addition, there were no original band members and the band lacked significant star power. Noticeably absent were RTRV veterans: Robin McAuley, Paul Shortino, Howard Leese and Doug Aldrich.
There was only one cocktail server who didn’t even come close to making the rounds and stopped taking orders after the show started. If you wanted a cocktail, you need to go outside of the venue to get one yourself.
The band is great but the Duomo venue is a big detractor for me. I'll let you be the judge.
