RADWIMPS on Tour

Japanese rock band RADWIMPS was formed in 2001 by five school friends: vocalist Yojiro Noda, guitarists Yūsuke Saiki and Akira Kuwahara, bass player Kei Asou, and drummer Akio Shibafuji. With a unique sound that united emotive indie rock with complex, introspective lyrics, they soon attracted a large and loyal fanbase.

RADWIMPS independently released their debut eponymous full-length album in 2003, and quickly gathered steam. After signing with the label Toshiba EMI in 2005, they achieved platinum status with their third album, 2006's Mujintou ni Motte Ikiwa Sareta Ichimai.

The band gained further recognition when they wrote the soundtrack for the 2016 international hit anime film Your Name. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart and was eventually certified Double Platinum. More collaborations with the film's director Makoto Shinkai followed, earning them continued acclaim in Japan.

RADWIMPS Live in Concert

RADWIMPS was formed in Yokohama, Japan by five schoolmates, including vocalist Yojiro Noda, who wrote the band's lyrics and music after being inspired by his tremendous love for Oasis in middle school. The band reportedly took their name by combining two English-language slang terms: "rad" and "wimp." The fused word, according to the group, can mean several things, including "excellent weakling" and "superlative coward."

The quintet began performing while they were still in high school and won the grand prize at the Yokohama High School Music Festival in 2002 with their song "Moshi Mo," which became their first single.

The J-rock band released a self-titled debut album a year later, but took a break soon after to focus on studying for school exams. When they reformed in 2004, they were on solid ground, quickly gaining an international fanbase and inking a major label deal with Toshiba EMI.

In the late 2010s and early 2020s, the band collaborated with director Makoto Shinkai on several feature films, including the hugely popular anime film Your Name and 2022's Suzume, cementing their status as one of Japan's most innovative and popular rock bands.

    Amazing first concert experience

by Juice on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

It was easy to get tickets, only thing I wish there was more clarification is VIP tickets. I would’ve purchased VIP if it was easily seen to buy like general tickets. Other than that I had an amazing experience overall :)))

    Phenomenal and Unexpected

by Chris on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

I was familiar with Radwimps major hits from motion picture releases they have done with Shinkai and ComixWave films, but hadn't heard much of their other music. They were so diverse and talented with songs covering about every genre type of music you could think of! They were fun, and you could tell they were enjoying themselves up there on the stage. It really was a great experience and one of my favorite concerts to date!

    Great music, charismatic showmen.

by Tally on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

Radwimps are incredible musicians, I haven't heard as good of a live show from a rock band is a long time. Though they are popular for their collaboration with Makoto Shinkai their non Anime songs are rhythmic and a treat to listen to, particularly "Tummy". It was a pleasant surprise that Radwimps added a show in the LA area. I hope they tour North America again in their next tour.

    Awesome!

by Littlejpstar on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

First live with the RADWIMPS. Noda san’s live vocal was awesome!! Full two hours of concert and my ears were on cloud nine! Also first time in YouTube theater. Love the venue! Small yet big! I really hope people won’t trash the place as the years go by because it’s really nice. However, Inglewood city itself is just like city of LA. Need tons of work to improve, good thing if you park within the venue it’s seems pretty safe for now. Other than that RADWIMPS is awesome! Come again!!!!

    A must-see!

by Brian on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

I came into the concert with subpar expectations. I love the music they made for Makoto Shinkai's films but never listened to their other discography. Before the show, I was listening to them on Spotify but all I got recommended was slow tempo songs. But boy did they have some BANGERS in store. The energy from the band was through the roof, the live singing was impeccable and the band was INSANE. Overall, I was beyond impressed and would see them again!

One of the best concerts that I’ve been to

by Vikkiwoo on 4/19/23San Jose Civic - San Jose

I flew from Vancouver Canada to San Jose for the concert - absolutely loved it. Yoji’s voice was unimaginably heavenly and I almost cried when sparkle, katana haluka (watched Suzume right before the concert) and tummy came on. Thank you so much for this unforgettable experience - Hopefully I will see you in Vancouver soon!!!

    RADWIMPS was AMAZEBALLS!

by Bee on 4/19/23San Jose Civic - San Jose

To start, the venue was very nice and spacious. I was glad they had concessions because we left right after work and didn't have time for dinner. Now for the band, they were amazingly good. Very talented and a delight to watch. The lights, the songs, the graphics made the show such a sensation. I truly hope RADWIMPS tour the US again.

It appeared to me like they really put a lot of thought into not just the song lists, but also the lighting and background visuals. Really fun show.

    Legendary Live Show

by RadAsEver on 4/19/23San Jose Civic - San Jose

Radwimps are at the top of Japanese rock and are best when playing live. If you love their high energy rock anthems or their moving anime ballads, you have to see Noda, Kuwahara, and Takeda perform live. Their chemistry and sound is 100x better than listening online. Thrilled that they could finally come to the US. We had seen them rock Yokohama Arena in 2018. Sad when 2020 LA show was canceled for COVID. And could not believe we were 10 feet away from the stage and seeing them play in such an intimate theater.

    100/10 Hardworking and Dedicated Group

    by bri martinez☁️ on 4/19/23

Came to the Youtube Theater show in La. It was amazing, they have such a beautiful way of captivating the audience. I would highly recommend live them to anyone!! They are not just the ‘anime’ band but so much more than that. You can tell they have it in them to preform and are great people! Lots of hype and energy when preforming that resonates with the crowd. Cant wait for another show!! I hope they get bigger and sell out once more. Any seat is a great seat when they preform.
