RADWIMPS on Tour

Japanese rock band RADWIMPS was formed in 2001 by five school friends: vocalist Yojiro Noda, guitarists Yūsuke Saiki and Akira Kuwahara, bass player Kei Asou, and drummer Akio Shibafuji. With a unique sound that united emotive indie rock with complex, introspective lyrics, they soon attracted a large and loyal fanbase.

RADWIMPS independently released their debut eponymous full-length album in 2003, and quickly gathered steam. After signing with the label Toshiba EMI in 2005, they achieved platinum status with their third album, 2006's Mujintou ni Motte Ikiwa Sareta Ichimai.

The band gained further recognition when they wrote the soundtrack for the 2016 international hit anime film Your Name. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart and was eventually certified Double Platinum. More collaborations with the film's director Makoto Shinkai followed, earning them continued acclaim in Japan.

RADWIMPS Live in Concert

RADWIMPS was formed in Yokohama, Japan by five schoolmates, including vocalist Yojiro Noda, who wrote the band's lyrics and music after being inspired by his tremendous love for Oasis in middle school. The band reportedly took their name by combining two English-language slang terms: "rad" and "wimp." The fused word, according to the group, can mean several things, including "excellent weakling" and "superlative coward."

The quintet began performing while they were still in high school and won the grand prize at the Yokohama High School Music Festival in 2002 with their song "Moshi Mo," which became their first single.

The J-rock band released a self-titled debut album a year later, but took a break soon after to focus on studying for school exams. When they reformed in 2004, they were on solid ground, quickly gaining an international fanbase and inking a major label deal with Toshiba EMI.

In the late 2010s and early 2020s, the band collaborated with director Makoto Shinkai on several feature films, including the hugely popular anime film Your Name and 2022's Suzume, cementing their status as one of Japan's most innovative and popular rock bands.

Worst venue in my whole life

by JS on 5/2/23Palladium Times Square - New York City

I actively went for all kinds of concerts around US and I have to say that this Palladium at Times Square is the worst venue I've ever been to. The root cause is that the height of the stage is very low, much lower compared to other venues in NYC. It won't be a problem if your audience space is ramped in a good way so that people in the back stands higher. But no, this venue has a huge GA area due to a bad design. No one after first ~10 rows in the GA section can see anything on the stage. There is a second floor of GA but the increase of the elevation is insignificant and the same problem applies: no one after first ~10 rows in the second floor can see anything. Yes you can choose to sit in the back, but that is a huge distance from the stage and no one can clearly see the faces of anybody on the stage. There are two screen hanging above the second floor of the GA section, but it was not being used during the concert when they definitely should. They do have a stairs between the first floor GA and second floor GA. From a physic point of view, standing on stairs can solve part of the problem, but due to security reason people are not allowed to stand there. IMHO, this can be improved by revamping the stairs or even the whole GA section. I normally arrived at the door time and I never had any issues seeing any shows even if I didn't arrive a head of time early and not in the front rows. But for this Palladium venue, I'm pretty sure 80% of the audience in the GA section are like me, spending hundreds of dollars and seeing nothing from the stage for the entire two hours.

    A Magic Evening with RADWIMPS

by Jochen on 5/2/23Palladium Times Square - New York City

My husband and I attended the penultimate concert of RADWIMPS on their North America tour in NYC, and it was a fantastic evening. From the video screen in the background, bringing a visual aspect to the music, the two drum sets with excellent drummers (offering a drum battle during an amazing improvised performance during the concert), and of course the core members of the band giving it their all, this turned out to be a super memorable event for me. The audience had a good number of what I imagine were native Japanese speakers who added their voices to many of the songs, which gave it a genuine feel of what a live rendition of good music can add above and beyond a recording. And the venue organizers did a great job overall of ensuring that the two larger sections (standing and seating areas) remained orderly throughout the concert. Am already looking forward to my next visit at the Palladium Times Square, and of course the next time RADWIMPS will come to a venue nearby!

    Absolutely amazing!!!

by Nin on 4/29/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

I've been waiting for RADWIMPS to come to the states for years and had bought tickets for their previous tour before lockdown prevented them from coming over. The wait was absolutely worth it! Heading them live was such a treat and the ENERGY coming from them was riveting. They're very talented (and also super sweet, omg) individuals and I can't wait for them to come back for another US tour in the future!

    by O. M. on 4/27/23

So amazing. I can’t describe how much fun this concert was. BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!! The crowd was so enthusiastic to have them there and they did not let down. I couldn’t talk for two days after because I was singing so loud with everyone else. I don’t know Japanese, but that concert was so amazing that I started learn. Would bye tickets in the blink of an eye if they ever came back. 100% the smoothest and most entertaining concert I’ve ever been too!

    Best live performance!!

by mido on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

Getting closer to the day of Radwimps concert I was getting little nervous because I haven't been to any big concerts for years, especially ones held at big venues where thousands of audience gathers. But I really enjoyed the whole show and two hours passed like a blink of an eye. To witness non-Japanese audience sing along Japanese song was breathtaking (as a native Japanese speaker myself), this could be once in a life time experience unless they come back to LA and perform again!!

by SherryBerries on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

Radwimps was AMAZING. Vocals, lights, visuals, sound, quality, ... everything. Venue was big, clean and sounded amazing. We sat on the very very top right, so we missed everything that was happening in the center/back stage, but it's ok. Loved it

Thank you for making my dreams come true

    by wimper.37458 on 4/21/23YouTube Theater - Inglewood

About 9 years ago when I was a high schooler, “Oshakashama” randomly popped up on my YouTube recommendation. Since then, my life has changed. RADWIMPS has always been there for me through ups and downs, so I’ve always dreamed of seeing them live. I thought I would only be able to see them in Japan so I had tears of joy when they announced the concert 3 years ago, but those tears turned into tears of sadness when the plan disappeared. So when they announced the concert this time, I thought I was dreaming. When I finally saw and heard the group play their first song of the night, I couldn’t stop crying. I was actually at a RADWIMPS concert!! AND they played so many songs I wanted to hear!! I had so much fun listening and singing along to all of the songs they performed. Thank you so much for making my dreams come true. This was definitely the best experience I’ve had in my entire life. If there is ever another NA tour, I will definitely be there! I will also try to attend one in Japan as well! 素敵な時間を本当にありがとうございました。RADWIMPSに出会えてよかった、と心の底から思いました。これからもアメリカから音楽を楽しみにしています!RADWIMPS最高!
