Queens of the Stone Age Background

Queens of the Stone Age got its start in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. Originally, the band called itself Gamma Ray. However, a German metal group already had this name, so Queens of the Stone Age was born. This name came from the nickname of Josh Homme's previous band, Kyuss. The band's musical style is influenced by many rock and metal genres, with macho and German rock styles commonly attributed to it. Later albums incorporate electronic and dance music influences. Queens of the Stone Age had their first concert in Seattle, Washington at the OK Hotel on November 20, 1997. Once they released their self-titled album Queens of the Stone Age, they started touring in 1998. They had their big break when they released their second album, Rated R, in 2000 and got the opportunity to open for Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins and other high-profile bands. An invite for Ozzfest 2000 came shortly after.

    Best band EVER

by batsht on 3/28/11Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Great venue and the band never disappoints. 3rd time seeing them and they are playing better than ever, plus the Ryman is hands down one of the best venues for live music. They played debut album in its entirety plus a few songs from the other albums (one on request) and a new one that was fantastic. Can't wait to see them again!

Queens of the Stone Age were amazing

by wink28 on 3/27/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

one helluva show, Josh Homme (second time seeing him) never fails to amaze me with his stage presence. The openers were actually really good. Had a great sound and were a lot of fun to listen to. I know for a fact next time they come around I'm seeing both bands again.

    QOTSA ROCK!!!

by Joaquem on 3/27/11Terminal 5 - New York

Saw em at Terminal 5 for their debut album re-release tour. Never been to Terminal 5 before, but it was a great venue to see a band like QOSTA in. It was small and my friends and I got pretty close to the stage so we had a great view. It's the second time I've seen them, I saw them back in 2007 at the WaMu theater at MSG for the Era Vulgaris tour. I'm a huge fan and tend to listen to they're more recent albums like Era Vulgaris, Lullabies to Paralyze, and Songs for the Dead, but getting to hear the entire first album was great and I thought this concert was even better than the first. So many good songs and they played the hell out of em. Everyone was going crazy from start to finish.

    QOTSA Performs their 1st Album

by hicksgospel on 3/27/11Terminal 5 - New York

QOTSA performed their 1st album in it's entirety, and then played 6 other songs. This is the 3rd time I've seen them and the best part is just watching them play. Especially their drummer Joey Castillo. The man is a beast! Entertaining as hell. :)

Good show, crappy sound & lighting

by foodfan on 3/27/11Terminal 5 - New York

I like QotSA, but their first album, in my opinion, is not their best. Unfortunately, they played the entire thing at this concert. Some good songs, but many just OK. I've seen hundreds of live shows, but this is my first QotSA show. They are a solid, but unspectacular live act. Good sound, but not very lively. The best I've seen that's touring now would probably be Gogol Bordello. The worst, The Strokes, who stand mopey, staring at the floor like they are too cool for the room. The venue, Terminal 5, has terrible acoustics and often vocals can barely be heard. The sound is hollow and tinny. This is not unique to this show. Other bands are hampered by this. Also, the lighting was in the audience's face for most of the show, not on the band.

Queens of the Stone Age are KINGS OF ROCK

by ThePatReidy on 3/27/11Terminal 5 - New York

Truly an unforgettable evening of rock and roll. Josh Homme and his boys know how to work a crowd even playing material that a large part of the crowd is likely unfamiliar with.

    Homme is my Hero

by bootselectric on 3/27/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Ain't got a mind to deal with anymore... cause it was blown at the qotsa show. Over 2 hours of intense and sexy rock. Not for the faint of heart and weak of body. Life is all downhill from here.

    Amazing as always

by borntahhula on 3/26/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

QOTSA outdid themselves by touring with their debut album and playing every song with the passion and balls they were meant to be played with.

    Great performance-- insane crowd

by Anonymous on 3/26/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The performance was amazing. Queens, and The Dough Rollers, we fantastic. Expect nothing but the best. However Philadelphia's crowd was very excessive. No centralized moshing, just a heap of pushing and pulling that if you were caught off guard, would be upsetting. Overall great experience tainted by subpar Philly crowd.

    great bands, terrible venue

by dirtdrawers on 3/26/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Dough Rollers were great, Queens rocked, sound sucked and it was way too crowded.

QOTSA rocked! Josh was on point!

by Anonymous on 3/26/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

I saw QOTSA in 2001 when Nick was still in the band and Dave Grohl was on the drums. They were amazing, but I have to say they sounded just as good on Thursday night at The Electric Factory. Josh's voice was incredible, the music was great...every song sounded amazing. I absolutely loved the show! Wasn't very impressed with the opening act, the Dough Rollers, but that's okay...gave me time to smoke and drink before Queens went on! GREAT show!

Queens of the Stone Age were amazing!

by MoreMoons on 3/26/11The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

I really enjoyed myself. I prefer the TLA more than the Electric Factory but the venue didn't matter, the Queens illuminated this venue and put on an amazing show. The self-titled album 'Queens of The Stone Age' was played in entirety and it sounded awesome. I was dancing away on the balcony a great spot to see all the action. Josh and the band seemed to be enjoying themselves as well and the energy was definitely there. All and all a superb show. I've seen them three times now and this ranks the highest..
