Great concert!! The Ripppingtons my new fav groups
The show was absolutely awesome! I will definitely come back! Can’t wait until next year! I hope it continues!
It was awesome like always. This is me and my husband 3rd jazz show. It was amazing like the the pass one. We said the next one we would bring our parents.
This was the 6th jazz fest at the amphitheater I have attended, and was most disappointing. I attended because of the jazz artist, and did not mind the R&B artist who played, but I did not appreciate that the promoter let the 2 R&B groups have over 1 hour music sets, but cut the 2 jazz groups to less than 40 minutes each. The groups should have had equal stage time. The previous promoter of the event kept a good even schedule between groups. The promoter should have called the event R&B fest by him being biased to the R&B groups.
The heat was uncontrollable. The food choices weren't great. The prices for food was exorbitant. Maybe could have had one more headliner. All in All, a wonderful night of Smooth Jazz! need more of these!
This was our second time attending this event. My husband and I believe that we will make this an annual event that we attend. We first attended the event in 2017 when Tone X was the MC. He was FUNNY!! He made that show so memorable and enjoyable. 2017's event was by far the best event (as you can tell become I'm still raving over it)! Tone X was awesome, the atmosphere was great, the music was awesome. As far as the 2018 event, the difference was that there was not one dedicated MC at this event. Some of the artist were running late and the MC at the time didn't know how to entertain the crowd. She literally asked this huge crowd, "What songs do you want to hear"...while we wait on the artist to get ready..... :-/. In between artist there were long periods of time where the stage crew would be changing out the equipment/set for the next act and it was just silent...no entertainment. But again....in 2017 everything was on par!!. This year just seemed a bit disjointed compared to previous years. Hope this helps and we are looking forward to a better 2019 festival....more like the one from 2017. #pleasebringbackTONE_XastheMC
I have been to this venue several times and it’s great! Even though there are only two lanes it moved along smoothly and getting into the actual event was quick and smooth! I give them an A-Plus!
All the performers were great! The radio station personalities were awesome between shows too!
The acts were amazing!!!!! The venue was just too hot and I had trouble truly enjoying myself!!!
This is the second Jazz concert I've attended in Charlotte...the artist were ok, however I expected more from Norman Brown...suggest 3 acts rather than 4. I'm a big fan of the Rippingtons but I think most in attendance were not...It also appeared most folks were there to see Will Downing...a lot of people left after his show. What I most dislike about the two show's I've attended are the host...these are Jazz concerts...if you want to play hip hop and run your month in-between performances...just hold hip hop shows. I've attended the Catalina Jazz Festival off the coast of California for the last 12 yrs...I think your coordinators could learn a lot about putting on a Jazz concert from Art Good...the promoter and host. They keep it Jazzy and I'm just keeping it real. While I do recommend these shows, I'm likely to pass on them in the future and continue to attend other events. I know there is no reason to change this format...the grounds were packed with people and the seats appeared to be nearly a sell out.
Great show and venue. Wish Will and Norman could have performed longer
Mixed sound for most bands were sub-optimal. Best sound with Norman Brown, Rippingtons better than first two bands. Vocals were terribly inaudible, unable to understand any unless familiar with the song(s). Almost no vocals with the above two bands, so possibly why they seemed better than the others. Having attended this event all years in the past, I noticed a decline last year as well. I've always sat in the first few rows, possibly sound quality got better further back? Not sure the price warrants consideration to this event again. Disappointing, because these performers are majorly above par and could've scored an "Amazing, five stars" from me.
Great bands and friendly atmosphere! I would attend this event again.
We purchased lawn seats. The amount of seats was pass capacity. People were sittings on the cement by the vendors. We had to purchase upgrades to sit in seats. This is not we planned
I can't understand why The Rippingtons were not the headliner. The other acts, besides Norman Brown, are not jazz groups. They were R&B. Very poor promoted show. Need someone in promotion that understands music. Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheater was not the place for this show. Very over crowded. I will have to think hard as to attending next year.
Some people chairs where too tall.................
I just want to say thank you to the promoters and planners for bringing this event to Charlotte every year. My husband and I had a wonderful time. The groups were amazing and the crowd was grown. THANK YOU!!!!!!
Bobby Caldwell was advertised on this tour. I tried to get info from box office, no answer, left msg, no return call for lineup. Went anyway. No Bobby Caldwell. Darnell Taylor was amazing. Filler between acts was preachy, religious, which is not what I pay for when going to a concert. Kindred, went over their time, was muddy sound, crappy. Rippingtons, played 4 songs rushed off.. we left before will downing and Norman brown.
This show was absolutely amazing. While it was hot and humid, the performers were phenomenal and they brought so much fun and so much positive energy to the audience. They interacted with the audience and didn't leave us wanting more. It was truly a good show for the price. I'd love to go again!
