About The Quad City Storm

Exciting hockey action has returned to the Quad Cities with the arrival of the Quad City Storm, playing out of Moline, Illinois, while also representing Bettendorf and Waterloo, Iowa, as well as Rock Island and East Moline, Illinois. The Storm are one of 10 teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League, replacing the Quad City Mallards of the ECHL in the region. The franchise's origins date back to 2009, when the SPHL's Louisiana IceGators began play in Lafayette, Louisiana. The team suspended operations in 2016 in anticipation of renovations to Lafayette's Cajundome, but eventually lay dormant until the team was purchased and moved to the Quad Cities for the 2018-19 season.

The Storm play out of the TaxSlayer Center, in Moline, Illinois, which seats 9,200 for hockey, and is also home to the Quad City Steamwheelers of the Indoor Football League. The TaxSlayer Center opened in 1993 as The MARK of the Quad Cities, and from 2005 to 2017 was known as the iWireless Center. The TaxSlayer Center has continuously been home to professional hockey since 1995, hosting two iterations of the Quad City Mallards (from 1995 to 2007 in the United Hockey League and from 2009 to 2018 in the East Coast Hockey League), and the Quad City Flames of the American Hockey League from 2007 to 2009.

The Quad City Storm are ready to take on the rest of the Southern Professional Hockey League, battling their regional rivals the Evansville Thunderbolts and Peoria Rivermen. The Storm's rivalry against the Rivermen, dubbed "Cold War On 74," is named after U.S. Interstate 74, which begins in Davenport, Iowa, and connects the Quad Cities to Peoria. In addition, the Storm face such teams as the Birmingham Bulls, Fayetteville Marksmen, Huntsville Havoc, Knoxville Ice Bears, Macon Mayhem, Pensacola Ice Flyers, and Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. The game was awesome and we had a great time. Our seats were Terrible! We were right behind the team and we couldn’t see anything. Fortunately there were seats available and we were able to move.

  • Great family event

I attended the Quad City Storm versus the Peoria Riverman with my family after Thanksgiving. It was a great family outing. Everyone at the stadium was friendly and helpful. The food was affordable and the place was clean. My only complaint is that there was a purse size maximum which I did not see on the website. The only “things before you go” was wearing a mask. But overall all it was a great time. I’d go back again.

We are moving to the Quad Cities and while looking for our home we decided to take in a hockey game. It ended up being an awesome experience, and it was super inexpensive too! High level hockey and a fun atmosphere

Storm went into overtime and won! My daughters first hockey game was a success. She really got into the game especially with the mascot!

  • Storm Roll into the Offseason

    by J. C. on 4/9/19TaxSlayer Center - MolineRating: 4 out of 5

Attended two very competitive & entertaining weekend hockey games to close out the 2018-19 regular season. In-game entertainment was engaging and well presented, without excessive gimmickry. The Storm team mascot worked the crowd throughout the game, interacting well with kids & adults. On future visits to the Quad Cities for hockey, my wife & I will choose tickets higher up in the lower bowl. Our seats in Row 10 between one blueline & center ice were in the last row of the retractable risers (subject to bouncing when other fans walk up & down the stairs). The TaxSlayer Center rink glass is exceptionally high, and there are a lot more sections with solid dividers that result in many obstructions to the view of play. Moving back & up 8-10 rows would provide a more clear view of the hockey action.

It was a great game and even greater that the QC Storm won. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and how excited the fan are. This is only the 2nd QC Storm game we have attended and they won both times. I'm wondering if we are some kind of good luck charm!!!

  • We had an amazing time!

We have a group from work that attends the anti-Valentine's day game every year. We were invited this year and will definitely be making this a tradition as well!

We had a great time watching the Quad City Storm. The first game we went to was good and they won. The next one we had better seats, but they lost. We still enjoyed ourselves though. Fun family event for sure.

I brought the 5 and 11 year old girls with me this time. The only reason I did not score this a 5 is because of the DRINKS. I had a pop and water they were $4. I could get a case of water or pop for $4. The food was great. I'll be back.
