The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee follows six awkward adolescents through their daunting and hilarious championship quest. As they navigate the tournament’s pressures, the eccentric coterie finds a new sense of belonging. Along the way, they learn that there is more to life than winning a trophy. This charming coming-of-age tale also invites four volunteers from the audience to participate in each performance, ensuring new and unexpected comedy every night. Peter Flynn (1776) returns to direct this heartwarmingly quirky Tony-winning musical comedy.
Great show and always love the Ford Theatre! REALLY FUN DAY
Funny and full of surprises, our group enjoyed it a lot!
Silly script but it was well acted. Was it meant to be a spoof?
This was an amazing production that was very enjoyable.
Great experience for me, my 19 year old niece and 73 year old mom. Touching and hilarious.
So much fun, the actors were amazing! I've never seen my daughter (9) laugh so much. She wants to see it again!
Fast moving, non stop laughs. Great dance numbers and quality vocal performances
This show exceeded my expectations by a mile. It is very, very funny and entertaining. I would highly recommend seeing it!
High energy and fun entertainment. Get to see a professional production, Ford's Theater, and sit for a couple hours during a day of sight seeing.
We absolutely loved the show! We had seen the original cast in NY 9 years ago, but felt that this production was just as good. The cast was fabulous and the direction and staging were superb. And it was a special treat to see it at Ford's Theatre which has such historical significance. Overall, it was a really fun treat for the whole family!
Fun show. Some parts were borderline questionable, but overall show was enjoyable.
The overall theme brought back memories of participating in spelling bees as a youngster in school. Marvelous musical comedy by talented "young" performers. We took our two 11 year old grandchildren and they really enjoyed the music and laughed out loud at some of the comedy. I should state that there are a couple of bits that are geared toward "adult" humor. However they were done in such a way that a young pre-teen should not be bothered by it. The theatre is a real step back into history and is definitely worth visiting. I would put it on your to do list when visiting the Washington area.
A very fun show! Great songs and talent - you could tell the actors were really having fun with their roles.
Took my reluctant kids, boys ages 12 and 14. 14 year old laughed loudest of all the audience. Play was a great family affair. However, if you are looking for Broadway sophistication, you may be disappointed.
We took our Grandson to this and he laughed throughout the show. Great family entertainment. We love Ford's THeater!
The play was moderately interesting. It was worth the time, I guess, but not worth the money. It did not live up to its "hilarious" hype. The cast members did seem to put their hearts into their performance but they just lacked good material.
The show was awesome - the singing, the comedy, the audience members participation, the characters and the actors. Simply a wonderful night out.
Great show had us laughing out loud! Excellent casting! Audience participation was fun. Highly recommend this show!
My daughter and I loved the show. It was both funny and poignant, with a great cast. We also enjoyed being in the lovely and historic Ford's Theater.
It was difficult getting to the theater and no parking available because of the Cherry Blossom activities. However, the show was great and enjoyed it very much.
