The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee follows six awkward adolescents through their daunting and hilarious championship quest. As they navigate the tournament’s pressures, the eccentric coterie finds a new sense of belonging. Along the way, they learn that there is more to life than winning a trophy. This charming coming-of-age tale also invites four volunteers from the audience to participate in each performance, ensuring new and unexpected comedy every night. Peter Flynn (1776) returns to direct this heartwarmingly quirky Tony-winning musical comedy.

The Spelling Bee did not disappoint. It was witty, hilarious, and engaging. All four of us loved it.
I'm an avid theatre goer and while in Washington on Spring Break saw that this show was playing at Ford's. I had heard of it but had not seen it yet. I went with my daughter and sister-in-law and we all LOVED it! It was SO funny! It was a nice, small cast and the actors that portrayed the kids did a wonderful job of looking and acting like kids. It was very entertaining and having audience participation makes it even better. I will definitely see this show again and recommend it to friends. I'm looking forward to seeing more shows at Ford's when I can. Thank you for a wonderful, fun evening!
Wonderful, a beautiful show with laughs from the time the lights dim, until the next morning when you wake still thinking about the experience. Amazing cast that could have not been more suited for there parts. A must see. Don't pass it up, make a point to go out and take part.
very enjoyable play, wth excellent actors, singers and dancers..... Appreciated the character of each and the balance between winning and participating.... a commentary on the world in which we live and the voyage each of us takes. The theater is good, but the orchestra section is not adequately sloped so that a tall person in front of you can in part block the view. Sound is excellent. Staff courteous and professional....
What a great venue Ford's is. My college daughter and I attended opening night of the show. It was electric and the cast was terrific. I saw a few familiar faces from other productions. There were many children in the audience because of the nature of the play. That added to the fun.
My family and I went to DC for the week. We wanted to see a play in the famous Ford's Theatre. Putnam County Spelling Bee was a hilarious, well-done play. My kids wanted to go back and see it again on Saturday! We had an excellent time.
