    Quirky but Fun

by Burthawk on 2/6/12Royal George Theatre - Chicago

I was looking for a unique and entertaining show and came across this one when researching shows in Chicago. My girlfriend and I had a great time at the performance we attended. You had to stay on your toes because you never knew when/if you might be called on to answer a question! Like the review I came across said, you will probably enjoy this more if you have a religious (especially Catholic) background but regardless, you should have a good time.

Put the nuns in charge was hilarious!!

by Doorknob2 on 11/25/11Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Since I went through 15 years of Cathilic schooling it brought back a lot of memories. I didn't know it was an interactive show with the audience beforehand. If I had, I may not have gone and would have missed a very enjoyable evening. I went with my daughter and would consider going again with a group of my former classmates.

    Spit out that gum!

by KCandMARY on 8/14/11Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Catholic or not, you'll love this show where you become a student in a small Catholic school classroom being "instructed" by an actress playing a ruler-wielding, habit-wearing, no gum chewing or cellphone ringing allowed Catholic Nun. We've seen the show twice. Even though the basic framework of the production remains the same, the role of Sister rotates through several actresses, every one with a different personality. And since a large portion of the show is improvised based on the audience, you never know what's going to happen.

    Play?

by mcanthony1 on 3/25/11Royal George Theatre - Chicago

I was expecting a play and this was more of an interactive 1 person stand up comedy act. There were some funny moments but I was a little disappointed since I was expecting a play with a full cast.

    Light humor

by CasualTheaterGuy on 1/30/11Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This show is best for people that want a light-hearted interactive experience. You are likely to be "censured" by the nun at some point; do bring your own sense of humor. (The theater room is sized for small audiences; there is no seat that escaped the nun's attention.) The nun, played by Kathleen Andrade, was believable, authentic and dealt well with good-natured heckling by a member of the audience. (Providing improvised responses which retain the attractive humor of this character can't be easy.) Neither I nor my theater companion are catholic, but we enjoyed the good-hearted, opinionated humor evoked by the nun character. People who attended catholic school in their youth are more strongly affected by the nun’s dialog and "corrections"; the hysterical giggles of the lady in front of me, as she was required to "cover up", added to the entertainment. I don't know whether all of the people who play the nun's role do as well, but Kathleen provided affectionate, adaptive humor that made for a wonderful evening.

    very funny

by melogee on 3/6/10Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This is a very casual show. My friend and I came in late and we were ordered on stage where we were chastized by the nun. We were hoping that would happen. There was a small crowd which helped with the atmosphere. Great show, I loved it.

This Nun was Large and In Charge

by flygrrrl32 on 1/16/10Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Took my former Catholic priest dad to this show for his 73rd birthday. Lots of Catholic school survivors and a sprinkling of non-Catholics in the crowd. Our "teacher" was on top of her game. She worked the crowd, knew everyone's name by the end, and was improv queen. My dad answered some questions and earned a prayer card which cracked me up. There were times when you would really forget it was a show and want to impress and be good for sister. I mos def recommend this show for anyone who is a recovering Catholic or even hard core Catholic. I think others can and will appreciate the show, but not as much.

    SISTER WAS IN CHARGE

by Licketysplit on 8/23/09Royal George Theatre - Chicago

"Sister" (Patricia) took charge of the evening class from the very beginning, bringing back some fond, and not so fond memories of my grammer school education. Using her skills with improv, sister incoporated 98% of the class to provide an evening of laughs and nistolgia, that even non Catholics could enjoy. Other than leaning left of center in its politics, the show is creative and highly recommended. Is Sister actually Catholic in real life?

This is the sort of thing you can take anyone to and they will enjoy it. My wife and I and our 18 year old son all had a wonderful time. Very funny and extremely well thought out and performed.
