About

PUP IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie outfit Pup blends pop and punk seamlessly to arrive at their unique sound, but calling them a pop punk band would be a total misnomer. Their catchy, compact tunes contain loads of melodic brilliance, but the raw aggressiveness of their sound is a far cry from the shiny production value favored by most pop punkers. Their recordings are frenetic, breakneck affairs, and in concert they push things even further, tearing through songs like "Guilt Trip" and "Reservoir" with a reckless abandon that always whips ticket buyers into a frenzy. Pup may be new to the scene, but fans of compact punk nuggets infused with catchy melodies and sing-along choruses are already lining up to catch them on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Pup was formed in Toronto in the early '10s by a group of childhood friends who all attended the same elementary school. They originally started playing together in 2011 under the name Topanga, but switched to Pup in 2013 just before the release of their self-titled debut album. The album generated significant buzz in punk circles, and in 2014 it was given a wider release on SideOneDummy Records. In their brief but bright career the band has racked up a considerable assortment of honors -- their debut album was nominated for a Polaris Music Prize, they won 2 Bucky Awards in 2013 for Best Live Show and Best New Artist, and Rolling Stone named them one of 2014's "breakout rock acts". They've rocked festival stages at Pop Montreal, Groezrock, and SXSW with their adrenaline-filled live show, and they continue to impress every time they take the stage on tour.

    Rowdy. Fun. Punk.

    by theasp00 on 5/17/17The Masquerade - Atlanta

This was an incredible show. The new Masquerade location isn't bad either, but is in Underground ATL so take that how you will. PUP was a raucous adventure from start to finish though, and they pulled out a total surprise cover to the chants of, "One more song!," to end it all. My mind was thoroughly rocked.

    Worth every cent!!

by Hannahsuzanne on 11/6/16The Basement - Columbus

I've seen PUP two other times but this was the first time I saw them as a headliner and the didn't disappoint. The band has excellent chemistry and preform well together. One of my favorites to see live!

    ALL ages was a mistake

by Boday15 on 11/5/16Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

The live music was great. All three bands put on a nearly perfect show. The downside of the night was all the children standing around. I had nothing against the kids but I'm used to pup shows getting pretty crazy and this was just sad. Half of them just stood. Maybe 10 people were moshing out of the 50 or 60 that came. To me it really wasnt worth a 6 hour drive. But all 3 bands were rad and music was awesome.

    PUP is amazing

by LingLingKiteru on 11/11/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

The music hall is always fun, good service clean bathrooms, skee ball, pool, 3 bars, coat check. Only made it for PUP but that's all I cared about anyway, and they were amazing as expected

    PUPtastic!

by Emmesspi on 11/11/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

PUP seriously put on an amazing show. Everyone was really into it and had a blast. Most fun I have had at a show in awhile! They brought great energy! Also, Stefan is super nice. I hope they come back to Boston soon. The opening acts were super-badass as well, especially blackbutton!
