About

Prof in Concert

A self-made rapper from Minnesota, Prof is a furious force on stage in the mold of Great Lakes microphone greats who came before him. With the introspection of Brother Ali and the off-kilter flow of Atmosphere's Slug, Prof has come a long way from his infamous "drunk shows" for college crowds at Minneapolis' Dinkeytowner Bar a decade ago. He's an upbeat hip-hop staple at festivals (including his own Prof Outdoors) and always a physical presence on stage. So much so, the rapper has undergone back and knee surgeries to patch up the body he sacrificed time and again for the sheer entertainment of his fans, yet he still refuses to let injuries alter his live persona. At 2018's Soundset Festival, Prof closed his set with the Waka Flocka Flame-featured "Apesh*t," crowd-surfing on a gigantic pink flamingo, rapping "Apesh*t! Break your neck! Break your spine!" while raining money into the elated crowd.Ā

Prof Background

Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prof (nĆ© Jake Anderson) has positioned himself as the heir apparent to the storied Minnesota rap throne. The 34-year-old started the Stophouse Music Group label, where he released his early work, including 2007's debut ā€˜Project Gampo,' establishing his quasi-comedy rap alter ego, Gampo. Prof quickly built a relationship with the stalwart Rhymesayers Entertainment label, collaborating on the Welcome to Minnesota tour in 2010, before signing with Rhymesayers in 2013 and releasing his breakthrough album, ā€˜Liability.' With features from Strange Music boss Tech N9ne, Petey Pablo, and Waka Flocka Flame, ā€˜Liability' even cracked the Billboard 200. On 2018's ā€˜Pookie Baby,' Prof took a more personal creative leap, opening himself up with visceral singing alongside his brain-stopping rhymes. He features Ashley DuBose, The Voice Season 5 contestant and fellow Minneapolis native, on the tenderhearted "Be Around," and he can still throw it back to the Gampo days on the tongue-in-cheek "Andre The Giant."Ā

    Prof & the Sylvee

by WeirdBeard on 5/9/23The Sylvee - Madison

Never been to the Sylvee before, so this was a first. This place has everything; doors, a floor, ceiling and water going through it. The sound was great & crisp, i could really hear everything very well. Prof is one of the best performers ive ever seen, especially in hip hop, so even if youre not a fan i suggest going to his show. Also i was able to squeeze my girlfriends butt a lot during the night, which made it even better

by EDAYE on 5/3/23Brooklyn Made - Brooklyn

It was my first time and absolutely not my last time seeing PROF live! Incredible live show where almost everyone knew the lyrics to his great songs. I only found this artist a year ago and I can't believe he has been under the radar for so many years. I expect huge things to come -

    Prof deliversā€¦.every time!

by Josh on 4/27/23Music Farm - Charleston

Show was in a small market city on a Monday night (not always the best combo when shows come to town) and Prof nailed it! Tons of energy and treated us just like a large market venue on a Friday. I usually travel to see shows and donā€™t bother attending shows in my city anymore because it seems like performers/musicians treat it like a pit stop on the way to a larger venue or market, Prof definitely didnā€™t do that! Canā€™t wait to see him get bigger and bigger!

    Prof is fire

by Ray Finkle on 4/16/23Saint Andrew's Hall - Detroit

Iā€™ll be honest, Iā€™m a metal head. Donā€™t care much for hip hop and rap, but Prof had the entire crowd moving. Iā€™ve never seen so much energy and good vibes from everyone. The ONLY disappointment was that he didnā€™t let his nuts hang. Tarzan

Prof is one of the best showmen in hip-hop

by Sympull on 4/16/23Saint Andrew's Hall - Detroit

Dude never stops moving! Definitely a must see performerā€¦and can you believe he remembers his words and hits his notes? A rarity in stage shows for hip-hop artists these days. See him now before everyone else finds out about him and you canā€™t get tickets!

Prof brought the energy but the sound was awful.

    by t.m. on 4/16/23Saint Andrew's Hall - Detroit

I've been to a lot of shows at St. Andrew's over the years and it was easily one of my favorite venues in the Detroit area, but whoever was responsible for the sound at this show should be fired and never allowed anywhere near a soundboard again. If you only want to hear the bass and drums at a show then maybe you had a better time than I. Prof was the entertaining enigma that he's known to be but I was only able to hear about 10% of his lyrics, and even less of the music outside of the bass and drums. This was my highly anticipated first time seeing Prof and unfortunately it was a huge let down. I've been going to shows at St. Andrew's for almost 20 years now and if this is what they consider a good concert experience I don't know that I'll ever be back.

Sacramento show at Ace of Spades

by @inez_maricruz on 6/23/22Ace of Spades - Sacramento

The show was amazing from start to finish. I had arrived late and wasnā€™t able to meet Prof, Mac Turner of Tae Supreme. That was my fault, but my experience for the rest of the show was beyond my expectations! They kept the crowd hyped, positively motivated, and had everlasting energy. The security was on point and even stopped a woman from getting on the stage!! I was in the front so I seen it all, Prof had his team hand out water as well which we passed towards the back also. Truly unforgettable performances that I wish they would come around to California more often. This is the energy we look for when soliciting a venue to attend. Prof is my new favorite artist and I wonā€™t miss a show!!

    Outstanding

by BigBert on 6/22/22Ace of Spades - Sacramento

Prof gave an amazing performance from start to finish. Everything from the set up of the stage to the progression of the concert and the performance were top-notch. Iā€™ve been to 100+ shows at this venue and that was the loudest Iā€™ve ever heard the crowd without a doubt. Had a friend watching from a different part of the venue that said the same exact thing after the show. Will definitely be there next time he comes to town.
