Primus Concert Schedule

American Rock band Primus first came together in the mid-1980s, bringing fans a distinct style of Alternative Rock that wholly distinguishes them from their contemporaries. Primus' tour dates -- which include their 2017 Ambushing The Storm Tour, 2014 Primus & The Chocolate Factory Tour, and 2014 Spring Tour -- have taken the group across the globe. Their tour stops are mostly centered in the Americas but often include legs in Europe and Oceania as well. During their live shows, Primus delivers their trademark brand of rock, metal, and funk elements, laced with ridiculous lyrics sung by bassist Les Claypool (along with his legendary slap bass stylings). Their musicianship is combined with wild costumes and a sense of theater that get audiences moving and laughing in equal measure. Primus' superb musicianship and stage presence haven't gone unnoticed. Their early 1990s work, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese and Pork Soda, both went platinum. In addition, Their 1996 release, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, and their 2013 re-release of Sailing The Seas Of Cheese both earned them Grammy nominations: Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Surround Sound Album, respectively.

Primus Background

In San Francisco, in 1984, founding member and bassist Les Claypool linked up with guitarist Todd Huth and drummer Jay Lane to form the original Primus. The lineup has gone through several changes over the years, featuring other greats like Peter Libby, Robbie Bean, Tim Wright and even temporary touring members like Buckethead and Danny Carey. Throughout every iteration, though, Primus has always had a knack for putting on stellar shows and concocting unmistakably quirky music. Primus' debut album, Frizzle Fry, garnered them some success with smaller hits like the eponymous "Frizzle Fry," "Pudding Time" and "Mr. Knowitall." They enjoyed even greater acclaim with their 1991 release, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, which included classic singles like "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" and "Tommy The Cat." Since their inception, Primus has released more than seven studio albums, with numerous singles gaining spots on the U.S. Alternative charts. Perhaps most enduring is Primus' legacy. The trio has always featured powerhouse musicians and eccentric vocals. Claypool's work on bass, however, redefined the role of the instrument within a rock context and provided a blueprint for the inclusion of tricky (but funky) bass licks in future works by other bands like Incubus, Korn and Limp Bizkit.

    Tribute to Kings Part Deux

by Paul on 6/5/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

This was my second stop on the Tribute to Kings tour. I caught the show last year in Chicago as well. As we arrived at the BMO Harris Pavilion and we're getting settled into our seats, a young lady named Shake approached us and asked us if we'd be interested in moving up a little closer. Of course! She then proceeded to upgrade us to the FRONT ROW of Section 1! Amazing! As always, Primus put on a wicked awesome performance! Thanks again to Shake and Live Nation for the upgrade. You made an amazing concert experience even better!

Seeing primus play outside next to Lake Michigan honestly felt like a once in a lifetime experience. Not only was the venue amazing but the set list they played was beyond jaw dropping. Old songs, new songs, and most importantly RUSH SONGS!!!

    Worth the wait

by Cheesy Sailor on 6/5/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

Bought Tix for this Tour last year, but Covid caused postponement. Thankfully re-scheduled not cancelled. Show was well worth the wait. Warm-up act not disappointing. Primus did 2 sets + encore set. Started show with a good cross section of their Material accompanied by unique cool animation. Took a reasonable break then did their Tribute to Rush. Of course Claypool wasn't going to hit Geddy Lee's high notes, but he did a good job singing the Tunes. Was a beautiful comfortable night by the Lake Front. The sound was well mixed & levels good for an outdoor venue. If you get a chance... at a theatre near you... GO! You won't be disappointed by the musicianship.

    Forbidden Mosh Pit

by Cwis on 6/3/22GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

The opening band's music all sounded the same and they played for an hour. By the time Primus came on I only had energy to stay for five songs. People around me kept trying to mosh.

    Good show!

by Spork on 6/3/22GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

So this was our second time seeing Primus on this tour (we saw them in Sterling Heights last Fall too) and they were really good both times, but Sterling Heights was a better performance. Don’t get me wrong, we thoroughly enjoyed this show, but the earlier one was better.

Primus brought their A game with the tribute to Rush, plus took the time to play many of their own greats. Excellent show and venue!

Primus Jams a little long in the tooth....

by Jon A on 6/2/22Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

I want to preface my review by saying that I am not a huge fan of Primus. I am familiar with their catalog and do find their hits "Jerry Was a Race Car Drive", "My Name is Mud" and "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" to be humorous and entertaining. But basically, I feel like if you've heard one Primus song you've heard them all. At any rate, I give them credit for being good musicians and I was intrigued that they where playing Rush's Farewell to Kings. I am a huge Rush fan so this was definitely required curriculum for me. The warm up band, The Battles, was God awful. The two man band consisted of a guitarist/keyboard player with a looper who plays a really simple riff on piano and/or guitar, loops it and keeps adding on more simple riffs into the loop. Then you have a spastic drummer, who is probably happy to have anything resembling music to beat the shit of of his drums to. That was basically the jist of The Battles, and it went on for about an hour. No vocals except for sampled yelps and chants, and no real song structure....just a lot of looping widdilly piddilly. I was not impressed. The Battles finally concluded and after about a 20 minute set up Primus took the stage. Their first set was all Primus, and they played the big three tunes plus other from their catalog. It was mildly entertaining, but as I said, once you've heard one Primus tune, you've heard them all. The jams were repetitive and monotonous and the videos they played on their big screen were all loops that repeated over and over. It was the night of the loops. I was concerned that the repetitive flashing lights, colors and sounds might cause someone to have an epileptic seizure. Sure enough, a young lady with dreadlocks threw up in the garbage can I was standing next too. Primus took about a 15 minute intermission and then returned to play the Farewell to Kings portion of the show. I must say that musically they were pretty much spot on, which is no easy feat. The started with the classical guitar intro for Farewell to Kings and then played the album thru note for note. Xanadu was especially good. Wes Claypool's vocals left a lot to be desired as he did not attempt to cover Geddy Lee's pitch or register, but then again, who could.... I was glad to see the Rush tribute, but had to suffer thru a lot that I didn't enjoy to get to it. I hope the girl with the dreadlocks is feeling better.

    My name is mud

by Riley on 6/2/22Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

Primus: A Tribute to Kings was one of the best concerts I had been to. I went to the show in Louisville at Old Forester’s Paristown Hall, and the venue was very nice and intimate with the bands. Battles was the opening act followed by Primus playing their music and then them playing Rush’s A Farewell to Kings in its entirety. It was quality funky rockin’ head-bangin’ goofy Primus in it’s true fashion, and I am sure it was an amazing time for all who went especially including myself.

    First Primus Show "Primus Sucks!"

by NLM on 5/31/22Music Box at the Borgata - Atlantic City

The experience was fantastic. I was blown away by the talent on stage, both by the band and the graphics behind them. My kids are long time fans and I joined them for the show. I'm hooked. The venue was not ideal because all Primus shows are standing and we were constricted by the seats.

BEST OVERALL PRIMUS EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD

by Nature Boy on 5/30/22Music Box at the Borgata - Atlantic City

Every component of the show was the best ever. LES, LER and TIM WERE FANTASTIC. The venue choice gave me and my “double neck” friends were incredulous we were so fortunate with the intimacy of show and experience. We hope we brought as much energy as the guys brought the excellence. It was a true privilege to be at the AC Show at the Music Box

    Okay

by EH on 5/28/22The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

The venue was very nice and clean. The show was uncomfortably political and low energy. This was not the worst show I have ever been to but I will not be seeing Primus again.
