Primus Concert Schedule

American Rock band Primus first came together in the mid-1980s, bringing fans a distinct style of Alternative Rock that wholly distinguishes them from their contemporaries. Primus' tour dates -- which include their 2017 Ambushing The Storm Tour, 2014 Primus & The Chocolate Factory Tour, and 2014 Spring Tour -- have taken the group across the globe. Their tour stops are mostly centered in the Americas but often include legs in Europe and Oceania as well. During their live shows, Primus delivers their trademark brand of rock, metal, and funk elements, laced with ridiculous lyrics sung by bassist Les Claypool (along with his legendary slap bass stylings). Their musicianship is combined with wild costumes and a sense of theater that get audiences moving and laughing in equal measure. Primus' superb musicianship and stage presence haven't gone unnoticed. Their early 1990s work, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese and Pork Soda, both went platinum. In addition, Their 1996 release, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, and their 2013 re-release of Sailing The Seas Of Cheese both earned them Grammy nominations: Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Surround Sound Album, respectively.

Primus Background

In San Francisco, in 1984, founding member and bassist Les Claypool linked up with guitarist Todd Huth and drummer Jay Lane to form the original Primus. The lineup has gone through several changes over the years, featuring other greats like Peter Libby, Robbie Bean, Tim Wright and even temporary touring members like Buckethead and Danny Carey. Throughout every iteration, though, Primus has always had a knack for putting on stellar shows and concocting unmistakably quirky music. Primus' debut album, Frizzle Fry, garnered them some success with smaller hits like the eponymous "Frizzle Fry," "Pudding Time" and "Mr. Knowitall." They enjoyed even greater acclaim with their 1991 release, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, which included classic singles like "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" and "Tommy The Cat." Since their inception, Primus has released more than seven studio albums, with numerous singles gaining spots on the U.S. Alternative charts. Perhaps most enduring is Primus' legacy. The trio has always featured powerhouse musicians and eccentric vocals. Claypool's work on bass, however, redefined the role of the instrument within a rock context and provided a blueprint for the inclusion of tricky (but funky) bass licks in future works by other bands like Incubus, Korn and Limp Bizkit.

    Primus-Sacramento

by Ed on 6/20/22SACRAMENTO MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM - Sacramento

It took over 45 minutes to come on. Best part of the show was how good the auditorium sounded. Been goung there for years. I asked a worker about the sound and he said they put cork in the walls last year. Band was tight and cod hear everything clear. For $62. it was a good show.

Did I pay to see Primus or….

    by Reno on 6/19/22

Instead of a tribute to Kings, it should say a tribute to Rush. I enjoy a band covering a couple of songs by other artists but this concert was more of a cover show than Primus. I do not get the point of only playing a few of your own songs. You can still pay tribute with a couple of songs and give your fans what they paid to see which was Primus.

    Disappointed

    by Reno on 6/19/22

We love Primus! I was looking forward to seeing and hearing them. However, we were immersed with almost nothing but Rush songs. Nothing against Rush, but went to see and hear Primus. Two Primus songs (which were great), followed by more Rush and more Rush.

    Primus Rush Redo

    by Dirtydingo1 on 6/18/22The Paramount - Huntington

Primus opened the set masterfully playing their own music that showed their musicality in their unique style. The second set consisted of their playing the classic Rush album A Farewell to Kings in it’s entirety. The band was spot on note for note and played every song as well as Rush did. The crowed hung on every chord and the reaction was overwhelmingly impressed and appreciative of being able to experience this album live and true to the original.

    daughter loved it, me....meh

by TerryMcA on 6/14/22Edmonton EXPO Centre - Edmonton

thought it was kind of boring, I couldn't really connect with Primus' original music as its really strange. I also felt their music for the lions share of the first part of the set was way too downtempo and lacking energy for an arena concert venue filled with fans who largely haven't been to a show in over two years, including myself. The Rush set was really well done and over way too fast (their next tour should tackle the Hemispheres album). I didnt help they didnt play my fave song of theirs Jerry Was A Race Car Driver. My 16 year old daughter loved it and we played My Name Is Mud all the way home. She quite liked Primus original music, but I found most of it inaccessible in an oddball kind of way; it was like come down music for a room full of lifer potheads who needed yet one more giant spliff to make them forget the misery of their day to day lives. 2 stars for me, 4 for my daughter, so Im averaging it out to 3.

by Nate on 6/13/22Edmonton EXPO Centre - Edmonton

To see Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde live in concert was an absolute dream come true!! I never even imagined I would have the chance to see Primus!!! And then they went straight into the stratosphere and played the full Rush album 'Farewell to Kings'!!! It was like an entire 2nd concert!! The opening band Black Mountain was astounding too!!! One of the greatest shows in my entire life!!

    In the moment

    by Natron Fiends on 6/9/22

You cannot and will probably never know how much Primus music will take you into a different level of life. Even Les commented on it. Its almost like he wrote the music specifically for the Greek Theatre in Berkeley.

    outstanding

by Zach on 6/8/22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Musically fascinating! Performance standard was outstanding! the Rush was really fantastic and very cool to hear their version - which was remarkably close to the original-Personally they really brought Cygnus X1 to life for me - I liked it more than the Rush one(of course they are both great) They played a lot of songs - old and new rep! A must musical experience - such interesting parts... These guys are artists! and entertainers! So glad I had the chance to hear them live! Go if you can!

Long overdue but worth the wait

by Doobie on 6/8/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

Primus was awesome. I/we have only two hang-ups with the event. The first stems from sound quality near either side of the venue. The Pavillion needs to add additional speakers farther to the left and right of the stage. We sat near the soundboards so obviously the sound was 'balanced' in the middle. But those who sit farther to the left or right side have lesser sound quality. The second concern is about the stage lighting and/or the lack of large screens. From our vantage point (in the middle next to the sound boards) the band members were difficult at best to see due to the dim lighting. Maybe Primus doesn't want to be under bright lights. Regardless, the lack of large screens was a little disappointing.

    Fantastic

by DB on 6/7/22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Fantastic concert. Not many artists will play pretty much non-stop for 2.5 hrs; especially with a gruelling schedule. But Les, Larry and Tim tore it up and indulged us all with their nonconformity. Musicianship at its zenith. Nice selection from almost their entire catalogue. All and all a great show. Thanks guys.

    Better than last time

by Bwana Clyde Batty on 6/7/22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Overall the show was decent. The set list was better than when they came in 2010. At least this time they played the odd hit. I was disappointed they the didn't play 2 of their biggest singles. Winona's big brown beaver, and southbound pachyderm. What can you do I guess. Their versions of the the Rush songs were about a 7/10. They are definitely not Rush. And I don't even care for Rush that much. Anyway I'm glad I got my tickets for half price, it made the show worthwhile, and my two young sons loved it. That's what matters.

    It's all in the mix

by Dolan on 6/6/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

For Primus, the drums were very low in the mix. I understand this is a struggle amongst musicians and their audience, but I was there for Tim Alexander (playing Neil Peart). Haha! One tom was incredibly loud, but the rest of the magic was lost from where I was sitting (row N, section 2). I have seen Primus once before when they opened for Tool on Halloween, 2016 in Phoenix. Primus's performance blew Tool out of the water that night! (Tool was excellent as always, but...) Their Milwaukee performance seemed a bit lackluster, almost phoned in. Les is a consummate showman, but his physicality was very limited that night. Overall, a good show, but I may have passed on it had I known the result.

Spot On for Rush, Otherwise Obscure Primus Material

by BG on 6/6/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

This was my first Primus show. They were spot on with their performance of Rush’s Farewell to Kings album. For their purely Primus sets, I was hoping to hear the more popular material such as John The Fisherman or Jerry Was A Race Car Driver. It was instead seemingly obscure stuff that kind of left me feeling a bit lost. Still a good show - just hoped for a bit more of a wild time with their high energy material versus what seemed to me to be more of their mellowed out, not quite as well known material.

by Ol prospector on 6/5/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

Primus delievered an exceptional show as expected. Loved the first set. Their performance of A Farewell to Kings was a man experience I’ll never forget. Master musicians paying tribute to legends. The venue was great as well. Very easy to get in and out of the venue grounds. Overall experience 10/10.

    Tribute to Kings Part Deux

by Paul on 6/5/22BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

This was my second stop on the Tribute to Kings tour. I caught the show last year in Chicago as well. As we arrived at the BMO Harris Pavilion and we're getting settled into our seats, a young lady named Shake approached us and asked us if we'd be interested in moving up a little closer. Of course! She then proceeded to upgrade us to the FRONT ROW of Section 1! Amazing! As always, Primus put on a wicked awesome performance! Thanks again to Shake and Live Nation for the upgrade. You made an amazing concert experience even better!
