    Broadway is fun again

by Martypsu on 8/28/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

This is what theatre is all about. Everything about this show was great--from the first notes of the overture to curtain call when the audience enthusiastically showed its appreciation this show rises to the top. For me a show must make you feel for the characters and this one does. Most of us know the story, but you you find yourself rooting for Samantha Barks as her feelings grow for Andy Karl, who likeable as ever transforms from cold business man to vulnerable man in love. Some professional reviewers said its too much like the movie and it is similar in story, but the actors are different -- the music is new and so is the dancing. SEE THIS SHOW!

    Loved Prett Woman

by FLTheatreGoer on 8/28/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

Flew my wife up to NYC to go see Pretty Woman on Broadway for our 34th Anniversary and it was well worth the trip. I recommend it to anyone who has seen the film version even with the differences between the two mediums of presentation. Some things will be familiar and some will be missing but all in all it is a well done show.

If you love the movie, you'll LOVE this play!

by Chocolatemaniac on 8/27/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

I disagree with the "professional critics" who disliked this play. It was WONDERFUL! If you are a fan of the movie Pretty Woman, then you will LOVE this play! OF COURSE it followed the movie plot. True fans would have been disappointed had it not! But the original music by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance really made it special. The stars were all fantastic, but so were all of the supporting characters. Loved how the "welcome to Hollywood" narrator guy was ALSO Mr Thompson the hotel manager. He was amazing! The bellhop character was so funny and he also appeared throughout the play in different roles that were also really fun. And for the Opera scene they had two amazing performers that took your breathe away. Don't let the mediocre reviews sway you..... GO SEE THIS PLAY! You wont regret it!

    This show exceeded expectations.

by BB14 on 8/27/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

We live in an era where everyone is supposed to woke and everything is supposed to be political. At least that’s what “professional” reviewers from The NY Times to the National Review want you to believe, particularly when it comes to Pretty Woman. You are now not allowed to like it because it degrades women by presenting the leads, Vivian and Kit, as prostitutes... Enough... Like the movie from which it is derived, their “profession” is nothing more than an artifice from which to begin the classic story of commoner girl meets prince and despite being from “across the tracks”, finds a soulmate, falls in love....the exact same formula that makes the Hallmark Channel millions, except with a better wardrobe, a (slightly) better soundtrack and, OK, a couple of moments where Orfeh might want to start worrying about hubby Andy Karl and Samantha Barks when they start... (except I had an opportunity to observe Mr and Mrs Karl on W 44th last night and as lovely as Ms Barks is, fear not for them people...) As the movie was Julia Roberts’ show, so the musical belongs to Samantha Barks and she does not disappoint. She has the same spunk and sparkle...and boy can she sing! Orfeh is a powerhouse barely contained by the theatre. Andy Karl brings a softer, more vulnerable, Edward to life. Eric Anderson gives a bravura performance as Happy Man/Hotel Manager and the ensemble is strong and versatile. I’m not sure you’ll remember much of the score. I’ve never been a fan of Bryan Adams and, alas, there is not even a hint of Roy Orbison (though there are a few bars from La Traviata), but it is serviceable, I suppose, and the cast works very hard to sell it. This show is worth your time and you better hurry because tickets are selling faster than The NY Times and The National Reivew would seemingly want...

    Pretty Woman Exceeds Expectations

by Songbird1051515 on 8/26/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

In spite of the unjustified whining by almost every top theatre critic, this show was extremely entertaining, professional, beautifully sung, with Superior performances by every cast member. The songwriter, Bryan Adams, should have written better material for Andy Karl. Andy's voice is far greater than the songs that were given to him to perform. They should be rewritten and the lyrics and music should be elevated. Bryan Adams should have partnered with a strongly established Broadway composer to do this project. It was funny, the sets and costumes were great, I highly recommend it for anyone above 16 years old. There are some bedroom scenes that are a bit explicit. As for the whining of the critics, I also think that they and we need to get our ears accustomed to different types of writing for Broadway.

    Pass on Pretty Woman

Nothing original here. While the talent was there the music and script fell flat.

Karl and Barks the best of musical theatre

by VCAN on 8/26/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

I never saw the movie from beginning to end but I was aware of its basic story line. The other reviews I read kept comparing it to the film. I could care less. The two leads are so powerful and multitalented that they were those characters. The supporting cast also dominated so many parts of the show making it an incredible theatre experience. I plan to see it again,

Seen the movie? Then you’ve seen the musical.

by Anonymous on 8/25/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

Essentially lifted from the movie. Often I finished the sentences before the actor. Leading lady was terrific, a real presence, beautiful powerful voice. Leading man was just average. Watch out for the opera singer - fabulous.

I enjoyed Pretty Woman tremendously. I was a little apprehensive at first since the movie is my all-time favorite. But the play was very well done with great acting and singing. I highly recommend this happy, fairy tale ending show.

Stayed to the story of the movie with about 15 new songs that were really good. If you want to go to a musical and just have a good time this is the one.

    Pretty Woman made you care

by ShowMD on 8/25/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

The “Pretty Woman” story follows the movie. With that you are allowed to relate to the characters as they dealt with growing love and affection in a business word. “ Freedom” a song for the time ,80’s ,and now. Music and book made you care. A musical with modern music that an old time musical lover could understand. Glad “Pretty Woman” here.

    Very Entertaining

by luludep on 8/25/18Nederlander Theatre - New York

We thoroughly enjoyed this play. The role of Vivian was exquisite; such a talented and stunning young woman, perfect for the part. Costumes were lovely and the supporting cast was very good. Overall, a most delightful afternoon. I was very surprised that the song "Pretty Woman" was not performed. Somewhat of a disappointment; thus 4 stars instead of 5.
