An excellent performance....as always a very enjoyable evening!
We saw 'A Prairie Home Companion' in Cincinnati. It was a pleasure to watch. We are regular radio listeners and being in the audience has made us even bigger fans. The actors were excellent and the crowd was highly engaged. It was a first rate performance.
My husband and I celebrated our 24th anniversary by attending our very first Prairie Home show and were charmed from beginning to end. We had enjoyed the Prairie Home Companion movie very much and had recorded Garrison's New Year's Eve concert several years ago, watching our recording every New Year's Eve since. We had high expectations that were met and surpassed. Long live Garrison Keillor!
A great show. Really loved the local references he wrote into the script. The only downer was the opera singer, she just didn't fit in with the rest of the show.
The sound was horrible. We had great seats in the pavilion but could not clearly hear what was going on. Garrison was great with audience interaction at breaks. It would have been nice to know who the guests were before the tickets were purchased as they were less than memorable. When I listened to the show on the following Saturday night I was left wondering "Was that the show I saw?". We have seen Prairie Home Companion at Music Hall and it was fantastic. We would not spend the money to see it at Riverbend again.
The cast of PHC is seasoned and professional. The show is easy going, funny, entertaining and a great evening out, particularly under the stars with the Ohio river arges floating by behind the stage at Riverbend. GK and his cast tailored the show to Cincinnati topics including chili and west side/east side social cultures. It is nice that they come into town and do some research to make everyone feel like the show is about them. Love the show on radio, and a must see when it comes into your town.
I've been listening to Prairie Home Companion for most of my life, from the time I was a young child, and jumped at the opportunity to see the show live. My mom and I went together and thoroughly enjoyed the production, the music, the humor, and the energy of the quirky show we love so much. It was an awesome opportunity to witness in person, and to laugh like we havent laughed in a long time. I can't wait until the show comes back to town, so we can go again!
Garrison Keeler is a gentle, entertaining soul who engages and amuses the audience. The musicians, acting company, and guests are all top-quality. Great fun!
I was very amazed with the performance of the A Prairie Home Companion at the River Bend Music Center in Cincinnati. I've listened to A Prairie Home Companion all my life, and I never really thought of all the little behind the scenes activities that go into putting this performance on. All of the actors and performers did an outstanding job, and I definitely look forward to seeing another performance by them in the future.
The event was amazing. It was great that Garrison walked through the audiance during the radio breaks. this is something that the radio listeners never hear about.
It was my first time to see prairie home companion. Myself and my wife thought it to be one of the most entertaining shows we've seen. Normally I have a the ability to dose off to fill in forgettable parts of shows. Not this time I enoyed every monent even intermission, which was another show of it's own. Great experience.
Very entertaining and wonderful to see live. Very talented & funny people.
We celebrated our 26th anniversary with this event and it was a special treat! Music was very entertaining. Watching my favorite characters in person was engaging. There was more humor in person than just listening on the radio.
Prairie Home Companion at Riverbend was one of the best concerts I have ever attended!! Garrison Keillor and his guests were amazing! Keillor even sang and told jokes during the intermission as he wandered through the audience. He told Cincinnati-related jokes that made my stomach hurt with laughter. Billy Collins and Kasie Chambers were definitely a nice addition as well!
Praire Home Companion is good old fashion humor that sets in your belly and your soul. Set as an old time radio show with sketch comedy and musical guests, Keillor's syrupy voice and breath filled pauses are a joy to behold. The talent that Praire Home Companion brings to bear from the stories to the sound effects made this warm June summer night at Cincinnati's Riverbend a night to remember. At intermission Garrison walked through the crowd up and down the aisles singing funny songs with the audience in the palm of his hand.
Priarie Home Companion was funny, entertaining, and full of great music and singing. Garrison Keillor was a great entertainer and even sang to us during intermissions; he obviously loves his work. The setting at Riverbend Music Center was great, outside yet under a roof, a pleasant warm evening, along the Ohio river. We had a great time!
There is no better venue or live show more inviting and engaging than Prairie Home Companion. The guest artists are varied and enthusiastic, the show lively and the cast ... well, the very best. Garrison Keillor is a showman, poet, singer and down right old fashion musician. The performance NEVER runs out of gas. If you missed it you missed an absolute fun time.
Prairie Home Companion's third visit was a grand-slam homerun! The show at Riverbend was more relaxed than the previous times at Music Hall. The staff had done their homework and the show was littered with Cincinnati humor and history. The audience was entertained by song, impression, story and theatre throughout the two-plus hour show. The enthusiasm and warmth from the audience gave the actors, singers and Garrison a firm foundation to let loose sacred and patriotic hymns, as well just plain good jokes. The guest stars were the bonus to the PHC cast and crew. PHC is a never-miss hit for Cincinnati. Move over Jimmy Buffet --- we have a new favorite at Riverbend!
It is hard for me to be objective because I love Garrison Keillor and his Prairie Home Companion show. He is one of a kind and anyone who does not see or at least listen to his show on the radio is missing out on such an interesting and delightful show. So, that being said, you can imagine how much I enjoyed his show at Riverbend and the the facility being so close to my hometown was awesome!
Prairie Home Companion on the radio is always a treat, but to catch Garrison Keillor and friends live made for a special evening. Garrison came out before the live taping began and loosened up the crowd with some unscripted humor (he's got an unpretenious wit about him that makes you laugh out loud and think "what a great guy" at the same time) and then we all rose to sing America the beautiful (of course Garrison added his own harmony). The 'live' show was perfect. His bit about Cincinnati (what we eat, how we talk, who we are) was spot on. Billy Collins (poet laureate extraordinaire) had some fans in the crowd sporting poetry t-shirts and he didn't disappoint with some hilarious (though also dark) poems about kids playing Marco Polo and poser poets. Angela Brown (with the Cincinnati opera) sang some great spirituals accompanied by some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard (Tyron Cooper). The other featured guests, Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson, played some songs off of their debut album Rattlin' bones. At that point the sun had set and we were sitting under a perfectly clear sky on a perfectly cool night and the harmonies they sang were... well, perfect. The show ended with the crowd singing along with the band, and Garrison of course. We walked off into a cool summer evening knowing we had just been a part of something really special.
