Porcupine Tree on Tour

Rediscover the progressive music of one of Britain's most innovative and universally admired rock bands, Porcupine Tree. After being on hiatus for over a decade, Porcupine Tree will be officially returning to the stage as a three-piece outfit made up of frontman Steve Wilson, drummer Gavin Harrison and keyboardist Richard Barbier. All three were members of the band during the last Porcupine Tree tour in support of The Incident (2009), their commercially triumphant studio album that climbed up the charts and reached the the Top 25 on the U.S. and UK charts. Between 2002 and 2010, this long-standing lineup released at least five original albums, reissued another three remastered versions, put out several EPs, created their own record label, performed multiple live demos, and even added a handful of live concert films to their impressive body of work. They became masters of their ambient, electronic soundscapes, remastering albums like In Absentia (2002) with a 5.1 surround-sound version that later won the award for Best 5.1 Mix at the 2004 Surround Sound Music awards. Other accomplishments include a nomination for Best Surround Sound Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards and winning Album of the Year at the Classic Rock Magazine Awards for Fear of a Blank Planet (2007). Fans who remember seeing Porcupine Tree live in concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 (their biggest show ever and final performance before the group's hiatus) will testify to the flawless execution of their ethereal but dramatic songs -- some of which span well over 15 minutes long -- with an ability to enter your mind and place you in a mesmerizing trance, your focus channeled on the visuals, while the vocals and instruments carry you away with shivers down your spine. Now is your chance to see Porcupine Tree in concert on their reunion tour as they travel across the country and prepare for what could be their final bow.

Porcupine Tree Live in Concert

Steve Wilson originally formed Porcupine Tree in 1987 using the pseudonym as an outlet for his psychedelic pop solo recordings. The project evolved into a proper band in the early 1990s. The expansion to Porcupine Tree's lineup allowed Wilson to explore his musical genius both in the studio on record and live onstage. Led by relentless creativity and a stubborn refusal to give the people merely more of what they wanted, Wilson continuously pushed the envelope on musical experimentation. He steered their early songs away from an original style resonant with psychedelic space rock and steered the band in a more progressive direction similar to that of Pink Floyd. Porcupine Tree's sound evolved almost as often as the band changed record labels, bouncing between Delerium, Snapper, Lava, Roadrunner, Atlantic, and Kscope, to name just a few. After signing with Kscope, they leaned into more of the mainstream, alternative rock genre with influences from the Beach Boys, then switched to progressive metal following a deal with Lava/Atlantic records in 2002. During the reformation announcement back in November 2021, Porcupine Tree simultaneously released their new single "Harridan," a prequel to their 2022 album Closure/Continuation.

    Best concert ever

by Old man on 10/3/22The Masonic - San Francisco

I've been to hundreds of concerts, floyd, sabbath, hagar, yes, Aerosmith and this concert was the best one I've ever been to. Steven Wilson is the ultimate showman. Frankly, i was stunned. The entire audience was singing along. There were parts where he would point to the drummer of it was his part or the bass player and then us during the chorus of a lot of the songs. This was truly a magical show. It made me feel like a kid again

    Fantastic

by Masterkey on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Of course the band is incredible, sound quality was excellent (I am an audio engineer), lights were great, seats were comfortable and when I wanted to stand and dance, no one kicked me out of the area in front of the concrete wall, just in front of section B, so that was really nice. My drink, Watermelon Margarita, was really good and the price was relatively decent, bar tender was nice. Great concert experience.

    Great performance

by Rich on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The band’s performance was tight, committed, and exciting. Porcupine Tree was well into this this tour, and easily could have sounded worn down. Audience was very enthusiastic, which kept the band playing strongly over the nearly 3 hr performance. I expected them to sound like some of the word’s best musicians playing the best rock music being written today, and was not disappointed

    Great show!

by GearyS on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

If you're familiar with Porcupine Tree, then you know their albums. The Porcupine Tree setlist, for the 30 October 2022 Closure/Continuation in the Greek Theatre, Hollywood, CA, USA, had to be cut short, due to neighborhood curfew restrictions. In essence, "Sentimental," a 5 min 27 sec song from their album: Fear of a Blank Planet, was eliminated. Okay, the concert, including a 20 min break, was still 3 hrs long. Several attendees yelled out "Turn up the volume!" Steven Wilson responded eloquently (paraphrased) "There's a volume restriction in the neighborhood." I asked the soundboard engineers, during break, about a rumor I heard and they confirmed 95dB as redline imposed by city ordinance. I quite enjoyed the sound volume restriction. For me, and I'd bet for most, the loudness was perfect! Great show! 🌷 Hare Kṛṣṇa 🌷

    Hoping for Contiuation not Closure

by Radioactive Boy on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

It’s hard to describe how awesome it was to see Porcupine Tree together again after so many years. From the first time I saw PT at Slims in San Francisco back in the late 90s to now, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen them (dozens at least). I totally enjoy Steven Wilson’s solo work and his shows, but the collaboration and effect that these guys have on each other is so magical in my opinion. Shout out to the new recruits on Bass and guitar, although I love Colin Edwin’s bass work and John Wesley’s contributions during live shows. They worked seamlessly into the mix. I was almost convinced John Wesley was doing backup vocals and the awesome guitar riffs. I really loved their set list with an early dose of the latest music to get the crowd pumped up and plenty of excellent choices from all over their catalogue. I can’t speak for every section of the audience, but my section seemed to know nearly every word to every song, including the numbers at the end of Even Less. I saw quite an emotional response to Collapse The Light Into Earth including tears and loved ones held close. Halo got the headbangers going (me too) and Anesthetize provided the jam needed at that point of the show. Last Chance To Evacuate Earth Before It Is Recycled may have been one of the oldest songs from the set, but it proves to be as prophetic and insightful as The Sound Of Muzak. Having Porcupine Tree essentially play two complete sets (no opening act, but a short intermission) was an unexpected bonus. I have enjoyed many of the bands they’ve toured with in the past, but being treated to an extended playlist this way was such a great treat. Many thanks to the band for getting it together for this show. Love you guys!

    Awesome experience!

by J. W. (John Wilson) on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Audio quality and visuals were spot on! Steven apologized to the crowd for not playing louder, and that was unnecessary as the volume was perfect. Excellent blend of older stuff and new album cuts. I really wanted to hear "Arriving Somewhere" but the curfew nixed the performance of that one. We did get to experience "Anesthetize" though; my strong second pick. I was kind of surprised that this event didn't sell out, given PT's strong following after all these years of being silent. I wanted to see them in case the Closure part of their rebirth (Closure/Continuation) wins out. I hope they keep it going, and Steven continues his solo work as well.

    PT At The Greek

by Dejavu69 on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Observations of a Concert: Porcupine Tree, Greek Theater, Los Angeles, CA, Sept. 30, 2022 (1) For anyone who has ever attended a show at the Greek, I think all will agree that this is just an amazing venue, in the Los Feliz area of LA, near Griffith Observatory. Not a bad seat in the place, not one. Great staff, beautiful environment. Just perfect for Porcupine Tree, I think. (2) I was amazed at how warm Steven Wilson was and how attached he was to the audience. Having seen the band live before, and in their concert DVDs/Blu-Rays, I had never seen Steven so open and involved in the presentation of the show. He talked to the audience a lot, and he was very humorous and engaging with the audience and the rest of the band throughout the show. Simply a joy to experience that, and it really enhanced the music and the mystique of the show and the band, IMO. (3) The set list was a perfect mix of "old" and "new" PT, and it was wonderful to hear the wide range of PT's styles and approaches to Progressive Rock. Of course, there are about a hundred songs that I wanted them to play, but that is hard to do in 3 hours. One thing for sure: after this show, I have a much greater appreciation and admiration of the new album, "P/T C/C". We listened to the album on our drive to the concert, and we found that we have several strong favorites from the record. After hearing the tracks live, I am all-in on the band's progression and this new album!! Perhaps that is also the result of Steven's and the band's warmth and presentation, but regardless, this is a great "continuation" for PT. I hope there are many more ahead!! (4) If any prog-rock fans, or any rock music fans have not experienced PT live, and you have the opportunity to see them at any point and any venue, I very highly recommend that you grab some tickets. An exhilarating audio and visual concert experience, by one of the premier artists performing today! ❤️✌️🎸 OH, one other observation I forgot to add: NO, Steven DID NOT wear shoes during the concert...🤣🤣🤣

The Greek is a wonderful, magical, outdoor venue. I've been going to concerts there since the 70's. And I look forward to the next one!

good mix of old and new

by Prog Rock Fan on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The "old stuff" was thoroughly enjoyable. Understandably, P/T played essentially their entire new album. C/C does sound very good. Biggest moments (besides Steven Wilson's wry comments) was Last Chance, Fear of a Blank Planet and Anesthetize. The sounded great and very tight. The volume could have been louder, but that's the Greek Theatre's policy (oh well)

Porcupine Tree rocks the Greek Theater!

by Gavinwannabe on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Band was never tighter, rewarded fans for their 12 year hiatus with 2 sets 3 hours in total. Amazing new music and visual treats throughout the performance. Just about perfect!! Gavin is the best rock drummer on the planet!

    Great show! Excellent band!

by Bippodaclown on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Great performance,, setlist and played the whole new album. Their music gets better and better so the new album was great to hear. Couldn’t figure out why nobody ever sat down so had to stand the whole show , damn, paid for seats, not a patch of concrete to stand on! Overall one of my favorite concerts! Hope they don’t wait 12 more years to play again!

Porcupine Tree Great / Greek Theater sound too low

by Dale on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The band told the crowd several times that they would have to pay fines if they turned the sound up. When I can hear myself whisper while the band is playing, then the sound is WAAAY TOO LOW. I'm sorry, but the people that live in the area need to realize that they moved near the Greek Theater, a great concert venue, and that the bands that play will actually need to have volume so the fans can hear. I don't recommend this venue specifically because you can barely hear anything. Pathetic.

    Great show!

by Pat396 on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Excellent concert and the Greek is a great venue. I know that some folks in the audience were yelling that it wasnt loud enough, but that was more due to it being an amphitheater more than anything else. I thoight the sound and volume were fine. The price for parking is a bit much, but that is to be expected these days days. Ultimately, it was a great experience and an amazing concert!

    Louder!

by MusicMatters42 on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The band was at their best all night. The sound was clear and crisp, but the overall volume was far too low. That’s not uncommon at The Greek. Another set of speakers nearer the second half of the audience would have helped. I was particularly pleased with the band’s request for no phones. Far too often, audience member phones distract from performances. Not here. I wish more artists would make similar requests.

Steve Wilson is a great artist. Their songs are fantastic and the band are total professionals. I only wish they could play more of their tunes. Can’t wait to see them again.
