Porcupine Tree on Tour

Rediscover the progressive music of one of Britain's most innovative and universally admired rock bands, Porcupine Tree. After being on hiatus for over a decade, Porcupine Tree will be officially returning to the stage as a three-piece outfit made up of frontman Steve Wilson, drummer Gavin Harrison and keyboardist Richard Barbier. All three were members of the band during the last Porcupine Tree tour in support of The Incident (2009), their commercially triumphant studio album that climbed up the charts and reached the the Top 25 on the U.S. and UK charts. Between 2002 and 2010, this long-standing lineup released at least five original albums, reissued another three remastered versions, put out several EPs, created their own record label, performed multiple live demos, and even added a handful of live concert films to their impressive body of work. They became masters of their ambient, electronic soundscapes, remastering albums like In Absentia (2002) with a 5.1 surround-sound version that later won the award for Best 5.1 Mix at the 2004 Surround Sound Music awards. Other accomplishments include a nomination for Best Surround Sound Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards and winning Album of the Year at the Classic Rock Magazine Awards for Fear of a Blank Planet (2007). Fans who remember seeing Porcupine Tree live in concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 (their biggest show ever and final performance before the group's hiatus) will testify to the flawless execution of their ethereal but dramatic songs -- some of which span well over 15 minutes long -- with an ability to enter your mind and place you in a mesmerizing trance, your focus channeled on the visuals, while the vocals and instruments carry you away with shivers down your spine. Now is your chance to see Porcupine Tree in concert on their reunion tour as they travel across the country and prepare for what could be their final bow.

Porcupine Tree Live in Concert

Steve Wilson originally formed Porcupine Tree in 1987 using the pseudonym as an outlet for his psychedelic pop solo recordings. The project evolved into a proper band in the early 1990s. The expansion to Porcupine Tree's lineup allowed Wilson to explore his musical genius both in the studio on record and live onstage. Led by relentless creativity and a stubborn refusal to give the people merely more of what they wanted, Wilson continuously pushed the envelope on musical experimentation. He steered their early songs away from an original style resonant with psychedelic space rock and steered the band in a more progressive direction similar to that of Pink Floyd. Porcupine Tree's sound evolved almost as often as the band changed record labels, bouncing between Delerium, Snapper, Lava, Roadrunner, Atlantic, and Kscope, to name just a few. After signing with Kscope, they leaned into more of the mainstream, alternative rock genre with influences from the Beach Boys, then switched to progressive metal following a deal with Lava/Atlantic records in 2002. During the reformation announcement back in November 2021, Porcupine Tree simultaneously released their new single "Harridan," a prequel to their 2022 album Closure/Continuation.

    Ridiculously Amzazing

by obnoxiousfaninfrontrow on 4/22/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

I couldn't believe how great the sound was. the House of Blues generally has good sound, but PT took that to a next level. The clarity of the vocals over the instruments from right in the front row is usually kind of a rarity in the venues that I have been to. Not so in this case, but then again, Wilson is a professional audio engineer. The set was great--a complete performance of the first disc of "The Incident" and after a ten minute intermission, they continued to perform some truly great songs. (Start of something beautiful, russia on ice, anesthetize, lazarus, strip the soul, 3, bonnie the cat, sound of muzak, and trains)--in that specific order. For PT fans, this is a must see!!! Great stage presence from such an amazing band. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS SHOW! you will regret it if you do.

Porcupine Tree - DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!!!

by ToddColorado on 4/22/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

We traveled from Colorado to Chicago last September to see this show, and it was fantastic. Apparently it could get even better, as we found out when we drove down to Dallas for this show. Having spent the past several months traveling the world playing the material from their new album, "The Incident," Steven Wilson and Co. have perfected its presentation even further. It would've been nice to hear more than just "Russia on Ice" from PT's earliest material, like anything from "Stupid Dream," but such is the reality of an ever-growing body of great work that much of the past is retired, to be brought back for the occasional benefit of longtime, diehard fans. Bottom line, if you like intelligent, well-played, prog-ish rock done by a quintet of musical geniuses, you can't miss this show. One final thought, and that is to note how well-organized House of Blues is. It was refreshing to encounter a venue AND ITS EMPLOYEES who know how to treat their patrons with respect, and to provide a comfortable venue from which to enjoy an incredible show. Thank you, HoB!

    Masters of their craft

by Warchild281 on 4/22/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

This band has a sound and stage presence that anyone could have an affinity for. The whole show is a journey; the band played the whole first disc of their new album and for the second half of the show they played their older songs. The projections in the background give the music a visual appeal that will sometimes creep you out and other times make you think deeper about what the songs are saying. Steve Wilson know what his audience likes and plays the songs accordingly. I didnt hear one request for a song that was disappointed. Between the ominous sound of their music, the elaborate light performance, and the dark and obscure projections... there is no reason to take any form of drug for the show. Truly a lasting and memorable performance!

Good show, from a PT newb

by khris777 on 4/22/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

I had only previously heard Time Flies and at the time wasnt so impressed... my friend is a recent convert to PT fandom and talked me into going. I'm glad i did. I enjoyed the entire performance of The Incident and this will likely be my first CD to purchase. In the second set, Anesthetise and the song after Lazerus were particulary enjoyable. So, anyway, interesting to go to a show not having any experience with the band. My first impression was that these guys really like Rush, Tool, Dream Theater and have a bunch of originality and other unknown influences that really create a nice new thing. These guys are really smart... they have really pulled something together (i know they have been around a while) that is 'progressive' but not out of reach... i.e. the 'masses' need something a little bit more but not too much - this is it. Lots of nice hooks, a lot of variety of styles and really put together well.

They were amazing. The opening act kicked ass, then Porcupine Tree came out and rocked my face off even more! I can't wait until they come back to HOB.

    My oh my...

Porcupine Tree was nothing short of phenomenal. Lights syncopated with music that was beautifully complimented with cinematic projection made this show one of a kind. If the opportunity to see these lads ever presents itself, take it...I beg of you.

    Porcupine Tree...wow.

by Xero2 on 4/21/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

This was my second time to see Porcupine Tree live. This was quite simply, a great show. Porcupine Tree is without question one of the most musically accomplished bands out there today. Their sound is unique, but their progressive rock and metal influences are undeniable. The band is very tight and cohesive. I don't think they could mess up a perfomance if they tried. The Colin Edwin (bass) and Gavin Harrison (drums) combination has to be one of the most skilled rhythm sections in rock music history. Steven Wilson is a musical maniac. This guy is somehow able to churn out some of the highest quality music out there. His abilities to write and perform are rarely ever seen. The performance was broken down into three parts: Part I, the fifty-five minute epic entitled The Incident, Part II, seven songs, primarily from Fear of a Blank Planet and Deadwing, and Part III, the encore, during which The Sound of Muzak and Trains were played. The setlist was excellent, with many of my favorites being hit. I had appreciated The Incident when I first bought it, but seeing the entire song played live with almost no interruption was truly a wonderful experience. The bottom line to my review is that Porcupine Tree is amazing. If you have a chance to see them on this or any other tour, take the opportunity, you will be glad you did. Opening for Porcupine Tree was an LA based band named Bigelf. Like my last Porcupine Tree show, the opening band was a pleasant surprise (the first time it was 3, from Woodstock, NY). Bigelf is worth seeing, they are quite unique, a sort of progressive Deep Black Purple Sabbath. This is a band that definitely deserves some attention. Over all, this was one amazing concert. Thank you Porcupine Tree and Bigelf for performing for us.

Porcupine Tree @ House of Blues (Dallas)

by Pendeflex on 4/21/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

This venue has always been a classy one, but throw in Porcupine Tree and you get one hell of a show. The sound and lighting were great. The musicianship of this band must be witnessed live. Do not pass up an opportunity to see these guys play. I went to the show a casual fan but came out a huge, huge fan. I was completely blown away by their extreme changes in dynamic...one second they were in the middle of a beautiful slow piece and the next they were throwing down some heavy rock riffs. As a musician myself, I felt their performance was inspiring. Do yourself a favor and see these guys if you have the chance.
