Porcupine Tree on Tour

Rediscover the progressive music of one of Britain's most innovative and universally admired rock bands, Porcupine Tree. After being on hiatus for over a decade, Porcupine Tree will be officially returning to the stage as a three-piece outfit made up of frontman Steve Wilson, drummer Gavin Harrison and keyboardist Richard Barbier. All three were members of the band during the last Porcupine Tree tour in support of The Incident (2009), their commercially triumphant studio album that climbed up the charts and reached the the Top 25 on the U.S. and UK charts. Between 2002 and 2010, this long-standing lineup released at least five original albums, reissued another three remastered versions, put out several EPs, created their own record label, performed multiple live demos, and even added a handful of live concert films to their impressive body of work. They became masters of their ambient, electronic soundscapes, remastering albums like In Absentia (2002) with a 5.1 surround-sound version that later won the award for Best 5.1 Mix at the 2004 Surround Sound Music awards. Other accomplishments include a nomination for Best Surround Sound Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards and winning Album of the Year at the Classic Rock Magazine Awards for Fear of a Blank Planet (2007). Fans who remember seeing Porcupine Tree live in concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 (their biggest show ever and final performance before the group's hiatus) will testify to the flawless execution of their ethereal but dramatic songs -- some of which span well over 15 minutes long -- with an ability to enter your mind and place you in a mesmerizing trance, your focus channeled on the visuals, while the vocals and instruments carry you away with shivers down your spine. Now is your chance to see Porcupine Tree in concert on their reunion tour as they travel across the country and prepare for what could be their final bow.

Porcupine Tree Live in Concert

Steve Wilson originally formed Porcupine Tree in 1987 using the pseudonym as an outlet for his psychedelic pop solo recordings. The project evolved into a proper band in the early 1990s. The expansion to Porcupine Tree's lineup allowed Wilson to explore his musical genius both in the studio on record and live onstage. Led by relentless creativity and a stubborn refusal to give the people merely more of what they wanted, Wilson continuously pushed the envelope on musical experimentation. He steered their early songs away from an original style resonant with psychedelic space rock and steered the band in a more progressive direction similar to that of Pink Floyd. Porcupine Tree's sound evolved almost as often as the band changed record labels, bouncing between Delerium, Snapper, Lava, Roadrunner, Atlantic, and Kscope, to name just a few. After signing with Kscope, they leaned into more of the mainstream, alternative rock genre with influences from the Beach Boys, then switched to progressive metal following a deal with Lava/Atlantic records in 2002. During the reformation announcement back in November 2021, Porcupine Tree simultaneously released their new single "Harridan," a prequel to their 2022 album Closure/Continuation.

    Amazing show!

by Alison L on 10/3/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Traffic very bad coming from other side of valley however very organized for parking when I arrived. Waited a few minutes to get in just as the show started. Porcupine Tree did not disappoint! They were phenomenal, the songs, the sound, the light show and effects all brilliant! Hope they come to LA sometime soon. My only negative would be that it got really cold and I wish I’d brought a thicker jacket!

    Blown Away

by Jeff G on 10/2/22The Masonic - San Francisco

My first time seeing them and was really impressed with the level of musicianship. Most songs also took on a tasty much harder edge live. Played for nearly three hours! Wow, hope it’s “Continuation” rather than “Closure.” Love Steven Wilson but he’s even better with the rest of the band than solo!

    PT Concert

by Mario on 10/1/22The Masonic - San Francisco

For starters, the entrance to the Masonic is a marvel of engineering and it has this unique aura as soon as you enter the building. The concert has been the best I have experience so far. The band got the audience so involved to the point that the sheering was so loud I have to cover my ears....but fantastic experience. The entrance was well organized with plenty of security, attendants and fast bar service. The building inside is also impressive with tall circled ceilings that captures all the sound waves coming from the band. There was plenty of room to walk even though the event was filled to capacity.

    An amazing experience

by Gwyo on 10/1/22The Masonic - San Francisco

I was new to the venue, but very impressed with it. The excitement of the crowd was obvious from the time the doors opened, and never wained. The band's performance was brilliant despite Steve's frustration with technical issues. The new songs were amazing and the selection of older songs was surprising in some ways, but they sounded great. New band members seemed to fit well. Other than a couple of times the volume seemed unnecessarily high, I loved the whole show and haven't been able to stop hearing it in my head. Welcome back, Porcupine Tree!

    Surprisingly great show

by Dragoon on 10/1/22The Masonic - San Francisco

First off never been to the Masonic, beautiful venue and great site lines. The seats were not particularly comfortable. The show — WOW! For a band that took a hiatus of 12 years, the sound was completely on point. I have been to a ton of concerts and I have never seen a crowd so into a show.

Great Band in Spite of Sound Mix

by Catfish on 10/1/22The Masonic - San Francisco

I was so glad that PT now has five members and is up to the richness of sound they had before Closure/Continuation. Each member played like the brilliant musician that he is. Unfortunately the sound mixing was off to me. We were sitting in the balcony right direct center stage. They needed to maybe take a little off the volume. Much of the vocals, a lot of Gavin's incredible drum fills, and some guitar leads were drowned out. Maybe it's just the venue which is beautiful. All considered it was still an incredible concert. Much love.

Not kidding, my favorite show ever, and I've seen a lot.

by SharkWhisperer on 10/1/22The Masonic - San Francisco

Was is really that good? I expected a great concert anyway because PT is at the top of my personal Prog favorites list. But you probably have learned that sometimes when you set that expectation too high, you end up falling short. Not this time. Completely over the top. Steven, Gavin, Richard, Nathan and Randy, thank you for the best musical experience of my life! The genius of Steven's compositions and the contributions of each musician combine perfectly to create masterpieces over and over. Every song is a new world. Every song a new statement. The dynamics are deep; from simple melodies to compound meters, quiet passages to thunderous chaos and lyrics from sympathy to anarchy. Put all this into a live show, flawlessly performed, mind blowing. The energy at The Masonic in SF was big. The entire floor was standing for the whole 3 hour show, chanting, singing, stomping and screaming. I brought my wife and 16 year old son who is, in fact, a budding prog musician heavily influenced by Steven and Co. For us to fly from out of state, on a weekday, to finally see the band was a big deal. The experience was priceless. Awesome!

    So happy for the reunion

by Firas on 10/1/22The Anthem - Washington

No shorts of any expectations, The guys did an amazing show, keeping the crowd on edge asking for more. Playing a variety of their big discography and making you remember why you fall for their tunes. Not many bands sound this amazing live as they do on their studio albums.

by Isteve on 9/29/22The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

Incredible concert performance, with PT providing close on 3 hours of immersive musical mastery, including entire coverage of the new album material, and some deep-cuts from their back catalogue. Best concert I’ve been to in years. Definitely not an experience to be missed. Hopefully this signals Continuation.

    The Return of Porcupine Tree!

by JayGo on 9/28/22The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

First thing: this show was amazing. The band played an excellent set list. The sound man did them justice. Fantastic mix. Secondly, I'd been to this venue once before, and I think it's great. Has a "small room" vibe to it. For this show, they closed the covered section off, so without the outdoor lawn section, it felt even smaller. It probably also made for improved sound. I suppose the quality of the venue experience depends strongly on the type of crowd. As this band is for those with a more discerning taste, it was a great audience. Every one was respectful. Except for the two annoying guys that were directly behind us. They talked throughout the whole thing, and they sang very loudly. It almost seemed on purpose. I'm all for enjoying yourself, but please don't do it at the expense of annoying those around you by ruining their show experience. We all paid to hear the band play, not you.

    Best show in a while

by Conlin Seydel on 9/28/22The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory - Irving

I am very impressed with the band and the sound/engineering crew that were there the night Porcupine Tree played. Steven had amazing tone (as expected) and it was great seeing Gavin wail on the drums. Crazy feel and rhythm, love the band.

    Incredible, special and unique experience

by dreamlogic on 9/27/22The Anthem - Washington

Thank you to Porcupine Tree for doing this tour. The concert at Washington DC was spectacular with a great mix of old and new songs. They played many (but not all!) of my favourite songs so I hope to see them again with a different tracklist. It was a shame that some beautiful songs (e.g. Buying New Soul) had to be shortened for this event but I am happy it was played at all. The ticketmaster booking and overall ticket experience were smooth as well.
