About

Polyphia In Concert

Anyone who thinks they know what to expect from the prog-metal genre hasn't yet heard Polyphia. The Dallas-based group is primarily an instrumental band with some familiar reference points — Seattle group Minus the Bear's burbling math-rock riffing, glacial electronic textures, and more evocative folk fingerpicking — mixed in with funky rhythmic edges and bluesy guitar work. The 2017 single "LIT" even emphasizes jagged electric guitar riffs over plusher electronic beats.

Polyphia's 2018 album, New Levels New Devils, goes even further into uncharted territory. Opening track "Nasty" boasts intricate guest work from Jason Richardson (a guitarist known for his work with Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin), while up-and-coming vocalist Cuco adds vocals on "So Strange." Popular single "G.O.A.T.," meanwhile, shimmers with rhythmic curlicues and latticework-like riffs that combine to create a bustling soundscape. The end result is that Polyphia — which takes its name from the word "polyphony," a musical term to describe sound built around multiple melodies — feels even more impossible to categorize.

That kind of boundary-bumping is built into the band's DNA. Guitarists Scott LePage and Timothy Henson originally formed Polyphia in 2010 while still in high school. Although the duo possesses guitar hero influences — the former is into Stevie Ray Vaughan, while the latter favors Jimi Hendrix — they also appreciate other genres, including electronic music and hip-hop. Clay Gober became bassist in 2012, while drummer Clay Aeschliman linked up with the group in 2016.

With this lineup locked into place, Polyphia exhibit the same precision live as they do on record, although they augment their focused performances with elaborate light shows and dramatic, crowd-pleasing crescendos and witty between-song banter. They've already opened for Coheed and Cambria, Between the Buried and Me, the Contortionist, and CHON, and are bona fide globe-trotters who have toured to places such as the U.K., Australia, and Japan.

    Wayyy too packed

by Michael on 8/2/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

Overall, I’m okay with crowds, but this venue oversold the show. As a result, views were terrible and audio quality suffered. I get that money wants to be made, but cramming this room full of people to the degree it was crammed doesn’t help.

Absolutely epic high energy and full of hits!

by Camden on 8/2/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

I had a few songs I was looking forward to potentially hearing cause I wasn’t sure what to expect, and they completely blew me away with every single song they played! They played a bunch of fan faves and I was enjoying every second I was there! I definitely would love to go to another concert of theirs down the line, it was that good!

Was an epic time for my bday

by Tom Tom on 8/2/22House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

Was very easy to get in, the guy at the front and i used russian accents to talk with each other for some reason and that was rad. Once we got in we were directed where to go upstairs. Upstairs the bartenders were badass and i was able to help my dad a VIP bracelet after driving from Alabama so that was kickass. The band of course lived up to the expectations and my friends and myself had an overall awesome experience. I would recommend, will do it again and cant wait until the next show.

I've been watching their videos since they first started and have been wanting to see them live for a long time now. The show they put on was everything I better than I could've hoped. Thank y'all for coming down to Louisiana and you should do it again some time!!!

    Solid show

by BubbaJim on 8/1/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

Great band with great material in a great venue with a great crowd. Polyphia only played about an hour, but honestly that was a lot to take in. The opening band, Unprocessed, was very entertaining too. Fun night of live music!

Polyphia of course is unmatched in skill so getting to see them perform live feels so special. Their stage was also really cool, the artists they work with made a really impressive set for their stage. Can’t wait to see them perform again!

    Multidimensional Guitar

    by Arctic Cat on 3/6/22

2019, House of Blues Orlando offers an intimate experience with performers. Plus there’s a sweet restaurant next door for before the show. Polyphia melted my face off with joy. They had fun on stage and we resonated with that in the crowd. I hope they come back. Sleep Token was a brilliant surprise with great stage presence doing roundhouse kicks wearing capes and masks. What a night to behold with Mrs. Arctic Cat.

Worth more than they charged per ticket!

by Anonymous on 11/4/18Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

I have never heard of or listened to Polyphia before until I met my boyfriend a few months ago. I bought him tickets for his birthday and he asked me to go with him. I was thoroughly impressed! This isn’t normally my choice of music but it definitely got added to my playlist after the show! The Covet & Hail the Sun were perfect bands to add to this event. Pure fire and beast musicians! They all gained a fan for sure!

Totally worth the 2 hour drive

by Rockiee on 12/25/17The Parish at House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Polyphia was absolutely amazing. Sounded the same was watching online and had so much energy where it transcended into the crowd and it was moving . They are so down to earth that after the show they came out and let the fans meet them, take pictures and actually chatted with each of us. These guys are one of a kind, it's not everyday the artists actually want to meet us. I love them!!!! Can't wait to see them again!

    Polyphia was LIT!

    by JoeB22 on 3/3/17The Foundry - Philadelphia

I was only able to stay for about half of Polyphia's set but wow... they absolutely blew my mind. Great musicianship and all the bands seemed very down to Earth.

Opening acts were just as good at the main band!

by Figgytop on 2/27/17The Masquerade - Atlanta

Great show all around. The musical dexterity of these musicians is unreal. I gave it only three stars because the audio guys messed up especially during the Polyphia set. The volume was so high especially on the bass that you could not hear the guitar solos with any clarity. It's as if they set up the audio for an outdoor concert and forgot it does not translate well in a small indoor venue.
