About

Combining elements of new wave, disco, and indie rock, French alt rock outfit Phoenix is arguably one of the most creative forces in contemporary pop music. After 2009’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix took home the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, the band followed up in 2013 with Bankrupt!, their fifth album and most successful release to date. Building on the catchy synthpop of its predecessor and buoyed by infectious singles “Entertainment” and “Trying to Be Cool,” Bankrupt! reached No.1 on the US Alternative Albums, Independent Albums, and Rock Albums charts, marking a first for the band. Formed in the suburbs of Paris in the mid-‘90s, Phoenix scored a breakthrough hit with “If I Ever Feel Better” from their 2000 debut United, paving the way for the mainstream success of sophomore album Alphabetical in 2004. On tour in 2013, the band have been keeping ticket buyers moving with their danceable live sets, earning a reputation as one of the most entertaining live concerts of the year.

Phoenix was one of my fave shows

by tingy on 7/16/09Terminal 5 - New York

I have seen a lot of shows, and Phoenix was amazing. I have been listening to them for over 5 years and tracking their U.S. appearances (which were super limited) and jumped when I saw tickets available in nyc. The venue was great, was very close to the stage and the encore was one of the best I have ever seen (and like I said I have seen A LOT). I loved them before, and I love them even more after seeing them live!!!!!!!

Phoenix put on one heck of a show!

by Akeah on 7/16/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Phoenix has been one of my favorite bands for some time, BTU this was the first time I have seen them in concert. And let me tell you, they rocked! This was one of the most high energy shows I have been to in a long time. The band was great, especially the drummer, and the crowd went nuts. Great show!

Phoenix rocked it at the Bluebird!!

by PhoenixFan on 7/16/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

I wasn't sure what to expect from this band live since it was my first time seeing them. Having listened to their last 4 albums I knew they had a great catalog, but I was completely blown away by the live versions. This band brought tons of energy and played through their material effortlessly. The highlight though had to be the impromptu MJ dance party after the show. Some of the band members even came out to lend their support and get their groove on!

Phoenix rises from the ashes at a poor venue

by Zoodiggy on 7/16/09Terminal 5 - New York

Although I'm not a big fan of terminal five, Phoenix was by far the best live act of the eight that I've seen there. I recommend seeing this band asap, before their passion for playing live wears out.

    Phoenix was amazing!

    by Nels0408 on 7/16/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

It was a great show all around. The opening act Amazing Baby was also great. They sound even better live than they do on their recorderd album. I would recommend this show to anyone who appreciates a good live act. Great job Phoenix and Amazing Baby!!

The concert I will compare all others to!

by ChaseDogg on 7/16/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

This concert was so crazy awesome. I'd seen Phoenix once before and have followed them for a few years now, so needless to say I was excited when I found out they were touring. But I had NO idea the show was going to be this good. It will for sure be the concert that I compare all other concerts to for a good while to come.

    It was awesome!

by Lulufr on 7/16/09Terminal 5 - New York

I'm French, as the band, so I was very happy to see them coming to NYC! I more than liked it before the concert, but now I just LOVE them!! I really was awesome, we were in the front row, and it was really crazy! I liked it so much that I already bought tickets to see them again back in France!

    Phoenix rising!

by SalaciousCrumb on 7/16/09Terminal 5 - New York

Phoenix's music is hard to categorize, it's certainly got a beat that you and will want to dance to it, but it's just as certainly not mainstream pop music. They definitely have a 80s dance pop sensibility, that appeals to those who grew up with Duran Duran, New Order and Alphaville, but the kids like them too. I am pretty sure that I had a grin on my face for their entire set. They sounded great and played my favorites as well. Not much stage banter, but that would have slowed the party down. Bring your dancing shoes.

    Phoenix was unforgettable!!!

by JBARR on 7/15/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

First off was amazing openers, Amazing Baby. These guys are on the up and coming and theyre going places. Great choice for an opener. Phoenix took the stage shortly after, set to play (of course) all their poppy hits. They sounded pristine, very good performance, offering enough vitality and energy to stray from their studio recordings, but also staying true to the recordings. Thomas Mars' (lead vocals) presence was high energy, and he even left the stage and reemerged during the encore. As said, they played all their hits but also touched upon their more underappreciated songs (Love Like a Sunset pt. 1, Funky Squaredance, etc).

    Phoenix in Denver

by jakeerton on 7/15/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

It was pretty good overall. Nice to see the band has some respect in good old Coloradical. The Onion newspaper girls were nice, they gave me some sweet pins, and other swagg. Meet some friendly people there. The set overall was good in length, sound was strong. Drummer-drummers stole the show, I thought they were very dynamic. I don't like when bands make excuses on stage. I spent almost 28 bucks to see them, and the lead singer was complaining about his voice being gone, from the previous nights show. It just puts a little damper on the show when in the second song they say how tired they are. They're performers and I realize its a long days work and all, but a professional should never reviel how fatigued they really are. They're enery was average I thought. Really nice to see kids having fun.

    Phoenix was amazing!!!

by Corrince on 7/15/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

They sounded amazing live - I couldn't believe that it was almost better than their albums. The sound in the Varsity is incredible and top notch. The crowd was perfect - everyone was there to have a great time and hear awesome music. The only downer was the lack of air conditioning (the show was on one of the hottest nights of the summer so far). I would see these guys again in a heartbeat. Their live rendition of "Run, Run, Run" was the best part of the show :)

    Phoenix... they really aren't sellouts.

    by EmilyD1313 on 7/15/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

I was worried about the recent success that Phoenix has found in the U.S. and that it might be changing them for the worse. They've been my favorite for years, but I don't love the new album, and it just seems out of character for them to be appearing on so many late night shows, radio shows, etc. So with that being said, I went into their Denver show on June 25th with less than high expectations... and I was completely blown away. They were so into the show, so down to earth, and their setlist was perfect... though it may have disappointed some of the backwards-hat-wearing frat boys who only know songs from the latest album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. They played 16-17 songs, pulling from all of their albums, all the way back to United. The sound was great, the vibe was great, the venue wasn't overly crowded. All in all, an amazing night.

    Phoenix was amazing!

    by katia16 on 7/15/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

This was my first event at the Bluebird and I was not disappointed. The venue was great, on the small side, with good views from most every where. Phoenix was amazing! I hadn't seen them in concert before and can't wait to see them again!

Phoenix is in a league of its own!!

by Danisuss on 7/15/09Terminal 5 - New York

One of the best shows I've gone to and I go to a lot of shows. Their set was amazing, the sound was killer, the crowd was totally chill and exactly what you would hope for. Overall, Phoenix will finally be a household name and get the the American fame these french gods surely deserve. I enjoyed myself so much that my friend and I were like yeah we are buying tickets to see them at Rumsey Playfield asap and we did!!!

I must say that this show was truly everything I hoped for and so much more. They sounded excellent, the venue was perfect and it was just an unforgettable night. I highly recommend people check these guys out. Drinks were a little expensive but the music made me forget about that.

    Hoooooolllllyyyyyyy Smmmaaaaaaack!!!

by kkkkkyyyyy on 7/15/09Terminal 5 - New York

Lights were incredibtl. Thomas was on point on every single lyric. The drummer is probably the best drummer i've ever seen live: the energy he puts into those kicks and drums, the head bobbin, the eloquent wave of the drum sticks, THE BEST DRUMMER LIVE. The rest of the band performed INCREDIBLE!! I can't wait till they come back. Venue rocked, crowd rocked, Phoenix rocked. Fan for life.
