Philthy Rich in Concert

Philthy Rich embodies the spirit of the Bay Area, and his concert history shows it. On his very first tour in 2007, he was joined by hometown heroes Mistah F.A.B., J. Stalin, and Beeda Weeda. (He's even been joined onstage by the Oakland Raiders' own Marshawn Lynch during a 2014 performance with Jim Jones.) He's brought his straight-shooting, reality-driven hustler tales to arenas, including 2016's Golden State Music Festival. This fall, Philthy joins another local legend, San Francisco hip-hop veteran Andre Nickatina, for his 2018 West Coast tour, also accompanied by Bay Area rappers Husalah and D-Lo.

Few artists are working harder than Philthy Rich. Since beginning his career in 2007, the Bay Area rapper has released more than 50 albums, and he's not slowing down anytime soon. Born Philip Beasley in the notoriously rough Seminary neighborhood of East Oakland, he entered the music industry thanks to some sage advice from hyphy veteran Keak da Sneak. Philthy soon had the support of some of the Bay's most heralded names, collaborating with West Coast gangsta rap godfathers E-40 and Too $hort, soaking up inspiration from the Jacka. Outside of his hometown, his network of collaborators is sprawling; he shares tracks with everyone from Gucci Mane and Lil Uzi Vert to Paul Wall and Freeway. This isn't to say he's one to cash in on passing trends — he's a realist, focusing on straightforward street narratives about struggles and come-ups. But the secret to Philthy's success is straight-up hustle, building grassroots hype with the independent spirit that's defined Bay Area hip-hop since the ‘80s.
