Philadelphia 76ers History

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the league's first franchises. Founded in 1946 and playing their first NBA season in 1949, the team was introduced as the Syracuse Nationals and played home games in upstate New York.

After moving to Philadelphia in 1963 and adopting the 76ers moniker in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the city in 1776, the team has had a prominent history featuring several players who would go on to be inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame: Dolph Schayes, Hal Greer, Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, Bobby Jones, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, and Allen Iverson.

The 76ers have made 54 playoff appearances and earned nine trips to the NBA Finals, winning three national championships. Chamberlain, Erving, Malone, Iverson and Joel Embiid have all also been named the NBA Most Valuable Player while playing for the 76ers, for a total of seven MVP awards. In 2024, Tyrese Maxey collected the franchise’s second Most Improved Player Award after Dana Barros in 1995.

The Philadelphia 76ers organization is part of the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment ownership group.

  • My First NBA Game

by MicZic on 12/12/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

We got there about 5:50 thinking we can go in and eat.. get in line and they tell us only season ticket holders can go in at 6 every one else is 6:30.. game starts at 7:30.. so back to the car .. 6:30 rolls around and went in no problem looking for what we want to eat.. long lines and sparse tables to eat standing up… before u know it … game time.. we were in 200 level.. they redid it but the seats are like you are sitting on the other person.. and whoever came up with the design to put the cup holders on arm of the chair total fail.. the lady next to me kept knocking my drink over because she was kinda on the heavy side.. not that there is anything wrong with that but seats are very very cramped… and when she stood up her behind was right in my face! No room! Game was great we won against the Lakers.. but they should let people in at least 6pm to roam around shop eat and take their time.. and next time I’ll stick to the club box.. more room and more money …

  • Top Tier Experience

by AnthonyMrRay on 12/12/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

From the reservation of the tickets, to purchasing details, all the way up until I got to my seat everything was very well handled by Ticketmaster. On top of that the game ended up being one of the best games I’ve attended yet due to its outcome. Pleased w/ my experience.

  • Great game from above

    by March4th on 12/1/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I went to the Sixers/Hawks game and had a great time up in Revolutionary Road! Never been up there and it was a like a club in a sixers game. I will certainly look to attend with this as an option in the future.

  • Row 1 Is Obstructed

by Wesley on 11/25/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

It's criminal that you sell seats on Row 1 right behind the hockey wall. You literally can't see a thing and if you stand up you get "down in fronts" yelled at you. It's even worse if you're behind the team benches cause they're professional basketball players. I had to watch the entire game on the big screen. You should at least label the seats as obstructed view.

  • Better Food Choices Please

by Jen D on 11/21/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

The Taco place was awesome but why is there only 1? And nothing upstairs that is not ridiculously unhealthy and caloric.

  • Awesome game awesome event awesome staff

by jfescen on 11/21/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

They won, which was always good. Everything was great including the helpful staff.

  • Obstructed seats not divulged

by LT on 11/15/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

I bought seats in row 1. It was not divulged that the seat level was below the temporary seats in front of us. Ended up watching the entire game looking straight up at the Jumbotron.

  • Game Night

by CJ on 11/10/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Game night was an experience, Philly fans are the best, Loud and Proud, Great seats and overall what an experience, The only issues is the ppl that like to get up every sec to go somewhere and everyone has to get up and miss some of the game, Get everything before you sit down then halftime, but no ppl get up as soon as they sit then do it throughout the whole game but can’t control that but overall great, half a few games already booked and can’t wait again, Can’t go to Philly and not Play MEEK ON THE WAY,,

  • An expensive night

by CR on 11/10/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

From the ticket, to the parking, to the food….it add up fast! It’s hard to find affordable and decent seats to games these days and forget about taking a family. It’s very sad. But I would say my biggest complaint is the actual seats themselves. They are so small. I’ve been more comfortable on an airplane! Your touching legs and arms with the stranger next to you the whole game.

  • Awesome!

by Mark M on 11/7/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

The atmosphere was amazing! The arena was hoping. Loved the whole experience!

  • Good seats, high prices and bad parking experience

by Supa on 11/7/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Good seats but the prices were too high. The parking situation was horrible, since it's cashless and the machines broke down an hour before game time. We had to wait 15 min in traffic until the machines could be rebooted to take credit cards. Cashless is not fair for all.

  • KNOCK OFF

by KENMONEY on 11/7/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

TOO CROWDED IN THE ASSEMBLY ROOM, THE CAUCASIAN GUY RON ASKED TO SEE THE TICKET AND TOUCHED ME, WHICH HAD ME ANGRY, THE GAME WAS A GREAT GAME OVERALL, MY EXPERIENCE

  • Do NOT buy 1st row

by Maxey on 11/7/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Do NOT buy 1st row In the second level. There is a plastic guard in front of you which distorts your view of the entire court. Had to sit on the edge of our seats to look over it. Otherwise we had a great time. Good game, excellent choice of food and beer, quick in and out of the parking lot ( not like the Eagles lot that took us over an hour to get out).

  • Awesome!!

by Erg on 11/7/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Venue was awesome great staff though out game , drinks were cold food was good, had a great time!

  • Home opener

by Jay on 11/5/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

The atmosphere was great the seats were awesome I just wished we won the game

  • Who can afford a night out?

by JStowe on 10/27/22Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

Nothing against the Sixers, always a good time. I would suggest turning down the speakers, holy smokes was the music loud pre-game - Couldn't even hold a conversation. Unfortunately, not sure I can continue to see any event live in Philly With $25/parking(A bargin compared to the Eagles), $15 for a beer and $$$ for half decent tickets. My old faithful recliner will give me a front row seat, maybe I am just getting old...

  • Nice

Can and a bottle of water was 5.75 = 66.75 and they lost other then that had a great time.
