Philadelphia 76ers History

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the league's first franchises. Founded in 1946 and playing their first NBA season in 1949, the team was introduced as the Syracuse Nationals and played home games in upstate New York.

After moving to Philadelphia in 1963 and adopting the 76ers moniker in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the city in 1776, the team has had a prominent history featuring several players who would go on to be inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame: Dolph Schayes, Hal Greer, Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, Bobby Jones, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, and Allen Iverson.

The 76ers have made 54 playoff appearances and earned nine trips to the NBA Finals, winning three national championships. Chamberlain, Erving, Malone, Iverson and Joel Embiid have all also been named the NBA Most Valuable Player while playing for the 76ers, for a total of seven MVP awards. In 2024, Tyrese Maxey collected the franchise’s second Most Improved Player Award after Dana Barros in 1995.

The Philadelphia 76ers organization is part of the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment ownership group.

  • Kids had a good time

by MDK on 2/12/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Took a couple of my grandkids to the sixers/hawks game. Seating was in the higher 200 section but still good seats and view. I liked the electronic-only access. The event was crowded but Wells Fargo attendants managed the traffic flow well. I rated the event a four only because the concessions are poor with dry chicken tenders, shoe-leather burgers and stale fries for eighty bucks. Because the kids had a blast, I'll do another game, maybe next time a flyers game but I'll definitely eat first.

  • FUN,but expensive.

    by Dr.beat on 2/12/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Parking was less than easy ,terrible signage, Food prices were funny 27+tax&drink 32.50 for a cheesesteak ,that's enough money for two ,pretty much everything is double the price, but hey people need jobs right, TM

  • Good Times!

by Jah Rah on 2/12/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The 76ers did not win but we had fun. My boyfriend was mad that we paid for higher end seats and the two star players did not play (0 and 21). I'm not into the game like that and overall had an enjoyable evening.

  • Sixers!

by Shania on 2/10/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Family Friendly! Such a fun night. Can't wait to go to another game.

  • We enjoyed the game

by Ms Frazier on 2/10/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Nice game. Great seats. The hosts we're nice. Food and drinks are pricey.

  • No Embiid, No fun

by JDiggy on 2/8/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

The Sixers do not have enough to compete without Embiid.

  • Expensive

by Rudy on 2/8/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

So unfortunately Embid is hurt and could not play. Get well soon. Anyway, took our grandsons so it was 5 of us all told. Was shocked by the refreshment prices along with ticket expenses then parking. Needless to say we won’t be going back!

  • Big waste of money

by Vic on 2/8/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

Horrible game, it was over for the Sixers in the first quarter. Me and my sons were very disappointed with the poor performance of the Sixers.

  • We missed Joel and Tobias

by CEC on 2/7/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

With this game the crowd energy was the lowest of the many games I've attended. Didn't help that Tobias Harris was also out, Sixers are in trouble when missing 2 of their stars. A full house but the crowd had too much apathy!

  • Great experience !!

by DM on 2/6/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Sixers games are always great- especially if you have kids… this game was a Christmas present for my son. Although the Sixers did not win, we still had a fun time. The seats were amazing and the atmosphere electric !! Highly recommend all basketball fans to attend a Sixers game.

  • Terrific seats!

Sixers games are always great entertainment, even for the lukewarm basketball fan!

  • Good view to witness NBA History

by Bubba on 1/25/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Good vibes and a Birds Eye view to witness NBA History

  • game

by fan on 1/25/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Great game. However, I was not informed by Ticketmaster of the benefits to the tickets I had purchased, special entry, access to lounge/bar area, free beer/soda/wine, and $25 per ticket food/bar credit. So we ate prior to the game and waited in the "regular"entry. Wish I had known this at the time I purchased the tickets.

  • Sixes love

    by D-Nice on 1/22/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats for the price. Very enjoyable and energetic atmosphere with fans. I love this game!

  • Half time happy bday message

by IB on 1/15/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the game however I paid $50 for a happy birthday message and the birthday message appeared on the screen 5 mins left into half time and it only showed for 5 seconds. I felt like the messages should’ve been on the Jumbotron longer or at least give the birthday person 76ers souvenirs for $50. I feel like I wasted my money.

  • No view

by Heather on 1/10/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

Row 1 of section 103 is a joke. The row in front of you is on a platform, therefore higher than your seats blocking your view. I was very disappointed that this row of seats is sold to fans.

  • Knicks vs 76ers

by AP on 1/8/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time….parking was easy, Wells Fargo Center was clean and there were plenty of food choices.
