It says a lot about a performer who really knows his crowd. The first clue that Peter Noone, the original lead singer of 60's British Invasion group Herman's Hermits, really is in tune with his people is the 3 PM start time at the Avalon Ballroom, the great performance venue at the Fallsview Casino, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Three 3 PM selllouts of the 1500 seat theatre attest to the wisdom of such scheduling.
The second clue was the upbeat show that stuck to what the crowd came to hear.
The approximately 90 minute show hit all the Herman's Hermits hits and a few other British Invasion gems. Noone was in fine voice and has an upbeat personality that was on display during the witty banter that was interspersed between the songs. The backing band was excellent and the whole show was well rehearsed, but not annoyingly slick.
It was a very enjoyable nostalgic way to spend a Wednesday afternoon, and my wife and I look forward to his next visit.
As an added bonus, we had a post show dinner at the Swiss Chalet on Lundy's Lane to make our trip into the past complete.
