PENNYWISE IN CONCERT:
Punk rock legends Pennywise have been an emblem of SoCal surf and skate culture ever since their self-titled 1991 debut. As one of the most successful independent punk outfits of all time, Pennywise elevated bros to sacred status with seminal punk anthems like "Bro Hymn" and "Living for Today," building a massive following that still turns out in full force for their moshpit-heavy live shows. With a new album due out in 2014 — their first with original lead singer Jim Lindberg since 2008's Reason to Believe — the band promises to pull out all the stops on their upcoming tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Southern California in 1988 and named after the killer clown from Stephen King's novel It, Pennywise released several EPs before their self-titled 1991 debut LP established them as a dominant force in SoCal's burgeoning punk scene. As one of seminal label Epitaph's flagship bands, Pennywise released a string of taut, anthemic albums throughout the '90s, working their way into the mainstream by the 1995 release of third album About Time. That album cracked the Billboard 200, a veritable coup for indie punk and a feat the band would repeat with each subsequent album — including 2012's All or Nothing, the band's tenth studio album.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Pennywise always puts on a great show. They have so much energy it spills out to the crowd!"
"Pennywise is nothing without Lindberg and now that he's back they're just as amazing as before. Great show!"
"The energy during the entire show was awesome and you could feel the love and respect everyone was channeling when Pennywise took the stage. They played hit after hit..."
great show but i dont like HOB venue and it wasn't long enough. other than that no complaints.
Pennywise, Pepper and Authority Zero all put on great shows! The guest emcee wasn't very good though. Just another white guy trying to rap and not doing a good job at it. But I didn't go to see him, I went to see Pennywise!
Pennywise is one of the best shows arround, so we try to never miss them when they come arround. There were so many happy people,& most were wasted- VIVA LAS VEGAS! We never saw Pepper, only heard them on the radio. We were amazed by the band & all the fans! I liked it so much I bought a CD at the show. DEFINITLY going to try to see them again.
Diverse bands playing together made for a kick ass show!
Good music, good drinks, bring good friends, and you'll have a good time!
Authority Zero was awesome, they opened for Pennywise & they put on an awesome show! Pennywise played nonstop & were pretty darn good, I only knew a few Pepper songs & I think performed alright, wish I wouldve known more of there songs, I wouldve enjoyed them more-
I thought Pennywise was awesome, but was disappointed that they didn't headline. We were expecting them to headline, so missed part of their show. Pepper was AWFUL! They obviously didn't have a set list and was just winging it. Their sound quality was terrible and when they played the song we really wanted to hear, they stopped in the middle of it. I would never see Pepper again and now when their songs are played on the radio, I change the station - very unprofessional!
I saw most of Pennywise but the crowd got rowdy so I set out of the pit and missed the rest of Pennywise play. Then Pepper, they rocked it!!! I was completely surprised as to how good they were. I would totally see them again!!!
Pennywise put on a great show as always, but who the hell was that rapper guy? I paid to see a Pennywise show, not some fat guy hop around and show his "talent" on stage. This whole segment was unexpected, and wish I could get my money back for that part.
Pennywise was as good as ever, but Pepper? Why would anyone put them together on the same bill? Not a good combination, and I didn't much like 'em.
Pepper was a new band for our group of 15 people, and was fun and upbeat. Pepper had the ability to get a crowd riled up, and was the perfect opener for Pennywise. Irt was our childrens first punk rock show, ages from 10 to 16. Pepper warmed up the crown and Pennywise proved yet again to be a crowd pleaser.
Pennywise never gets old, played new and old jams. Who doesnt like pepper? Fun and chill time. Great price
the show over-all was epic, we were able to get into the venue pretty quickly, there were no out-of -control bathroom waits or lines for beer. Pennywise played an awesome set. Pepper was amazing, loved that the boys from slightly stoopid came out to do a few songs throughout the set.
Great live show as always. They really know how to get the audience involved. Security was really chill which was good
The venue is old and funky. It was dark and disorderly and people were out of control. I've seen Pepper three times this year and this one was the worst. They really "rocked" up their stuff to go along with Pennywise better and I did not appreciate it.
Whoever's idea it was to make Pepper the headliner over Pennywise needs to do a little more research on what San Diego listeners want to hear....Pennywise's set was too early and too short. I should leave a jager sponsored [punk rock show sweaty and tore up with ripped clothes and a great story....however, Pepper ruined it all for me by taking forever to start their set, one member being too drunk to play, bringing Miles from Slightly Stoopid to fill in the gaps (way to use your resources - I agree that you're nothing without them) like 3 or 4 times and just sucking overall. Wht a let down to what was supposed to be an awesome show. Recommendation for next time - make sure Pennywise is always the headliner in this neck of the woods.
They were as always amazing live and have great energy. They are always kick ass, can't wait to see Pennywise again!
Really nice show, but the bad thing is that people smoked inside
I'm a rabid Pennywise fan. I have every album and know everyword. This concert was a major disappointment. The band got totally hammered in Chicago the night before and the show was terrible. They were so bad that it took me like 45 seconds just to figure out what song they were playing. Pepper was good though and their energy was high.
Great mix of bands, supervillains killed the opening, pepper really stole the show. pennywise is always classic
