PENNYWISE IN CONCERT:

Punk rock legends Pennywise have been an emblem of SoCal surf and skate culture ever since their self-titled 1991 debut. As one of the most successful independent punk outfits of all time, Pennywise elevated bros to sacred status with seminal punk anthems like "Bro Hymn" and "Living for Today," building a massive following that still turns out in full force for their moshpit-heavy live shows. With a new album due out in 2014 — their first with original lead singer Jim Lindberg since 2008's Reason to Believe — the band promises to pull out all the stops on their upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Southern California in 1988 and named after the killer clown from Stephen King's novel  It, Pennywise released several EPs before their self-titled 1991 debut LP established them as a dominant force in SoCal's burgeoning punk scene. As one of seminal label Epitaph's flagship bands, Pennywise released a string of taut, anthemic albums throughout the '90s, working their way into the mainstream by the 1995 release of third album About Time. That album cracked the Billboard 200, a veritable coup for indie punk and a feat the band would repeat with each subsequent album — including 2012's All or Nothing, the band's tenth studio album.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Pennywise always puts on a great show. They have so much energy it spills out to the crowd!"

"Pennywise is nothing without Lindberg and now that he's back they're just as amazing as before. Great show!"

"The energy during the entire show was awesome and you could feel the love and respect everyone was channeling when Pennywise took the stage. They played hit after hit..."

Lagwagon killed it as usual and so did Pennywise. I've seen both bands about a dozen times each and they never disappoint. The sound was great. The pit was insane and took up about 75% of the floor.

Great show for punk rock! It was great to see some bands that were huge part of movement in the 90's like Strung Out and Lagwagon.

  • Best Pennywise show I've been to!!!

    by Kin1 on 1/20/13Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I have been waiting for this moment for years. I bought the tickets as a Christmas gift for him and could hardly keep it a secret. The energy during the entire show was awesome and you could feel the love and respect everyone was channeling when Pennywise took the stage. They played hit after hit and the montage they showed commemorating their 25th anniversary was beyond words. We can't wait to go to another show!

  • Sick as usual and without Jim...

by Brickz on 9/14/10The Garrick Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Unreal show and wicked crowd turnout! Disappointed that Bigwig didn't show up but Authority Zero and Pennywise more than made up for it. New singer was excellent too but the sound seemed off to me, vocals too quiet... Other than that, amazing show and can't wait to hear more from Pennywise and the new vocals. Sorry Ignite and thank you!

  • Pennywise=Amazing

Show was allaround awesome. Set-list was tight, crowd was good and venue worked out well. Can't wait for the next show!

    by MrSparkle6986 on 9/9/10Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 3 out of 5

Good show, I enjoyed it BUT......only 57 minutes and NO encore! I have been to 100 shows in my life and this was the first time a band didn't do an encore. That is lame. You complain about "big business" during the show, but you can't deliver an encore?? If big business ran your show, there would have been an encore!!

  • Pennywise is never a disappointment

by JeRsEyPunK on 9/9/10Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great from beginning to end. I just wish that Bigwig played like they were supposed to. I also wish that Authority zero had a better time slot and that their set time was longer. As for pennywise, the setlist was amazing, the sound was great, and the new singer was excellent.

  • Pennywise still going strong!

Overall great show. Zoli missed a couple lyrics, but still very good for the "new" guy.

new singer is awesome...would highly recommend seeing them live.

  • by a2and2d on 3/20/10Ventura Theatre - VenturaRating: 4 out of 5

Zoli was good, and this was a great show. Jim will always be missed, though. No one can sing his lyrics as good as he can.

  • I MISS JIM!!!

by MuffinsMum on 3/20/10Ventura Theatre - VenturaRating: 4 out of 5

The band sounded good...but honestly I'm not feeling the new lead singer... He has an ok voice but Jim's voice was very distinctive & the new guys is very generic... It's just not right to hear somebody else singing the old songs... If you ever saw PW before...you KNOW they are an incredible band... the vibe just isn't the same w/o Jim..& they didn't even play a whole hour including the encore...I'm not trying to be negative, just honest =)

  • Pennywise

    by rudyff1 on 3/19/10Ventura Theatre - VenturaRating: 5 out of 5

The new lead singer caught me off guard at first but the remaining members came fully loaded with that "old feeling". If you ever been to a Pennywise concert before you know what kind of energy I'm talking about! The opening acts only made the concert only that much better with The Darlings and TSOL playing some awesome sets.

  • Pennywise Played an Awesome Show

  • Pennywise rocked it!

I am a 46-year-old who has been following Pennywise for years-I guess you could call me old school punk. Regardless, I was expecting a show and I got it last night at the Ventura Theatre with Pennywise. The intro bands, TSOL and The Darlings, while vanguards in their own right, sounded like kindergartners in comparision to the bashing tunes of Pennywise. As a long-time fan of Pennywise, this was the first time I heard Teglas live. At 40, he has the energy and verve of a 20-year-old. His passion for the Earth and all things green was evident in the song choices and his voice inflected that passion while singing his tale of environmental woes and what we can do to help make the world better. I was proud to be in my 40's watching this man and his passion rip across the stage. (His buff bod was nice to look at also!) The inserts of song dedications were worthy and Fletcher, Bradbury and McMackin all contributed to a rockin' night. However, hands down, Teglas stole the show.

PENNYWISE-I was a tad bit disappointed they didn't play a few songs I really wanted to hear. New singer sounded great although somewhat different. The band as a whole played really well and I was stoked to see them play at such a great venue.

  • Pepper & Pennywise

by Neens6H on 8/31/09San Diego Sports Arena - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Pepper was amazing. As usual, of course... The "private beer garden" downstairs kinda messed with the flow of the venue, and sucked for people who wanted a beer but didn't purchase access to the "beer garden."

  • Great Show

    by Cam52391 on 8/13/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing show with a great blend of different musical types from hip hop to reggae to punk. all the bands were at the top of their game and put on a great show

  • Truly memorable experience

by RastaBOO on 7/20/09San Diego Sports Arena - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Amazing!! Fun throughout-all the way from pre show dinner and drinks to the arena exit where everyone relived the "bro hymn" hype.

  • pennywise and pepper rock the cock!!

    by hoppus182 on 7/20/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5

the show was so rockin'! authority zero was an amazing opener, and hyped the crowed up nicely. I've seen pepper in the past, and they're always amazing and put on one hell of a stage show! Pennywise. What more to say? The classic punkers ripped up the stage playing a huge variety of older songs as well as many new ones from the newest album.

  • Pennywise still rockin
