About Penn State Nittany Lions Wrestling

One of the most dominant programs in college wrestling today also has a long and sustained record of success in the sport. The Penn State Nittany Lions wrestling team has a claim to nine team national championships, with seven of them coming since 2010 under head coach and 2004 Olympic champion Cael Sanderson.

Penn State has held its own as a member of the Big Ten Conference since 1990, regularly facing such college wrestling powerhouses as Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan, and Minnesota, while also having success dating as far back as the 1920s.

Penn State's wrestlers have combined for 41 individual national championships by 29 wrestlers, and three of them have won the Dan Hodge Trophy as college wrestling's most outstanding athlete. Three of the four wrestlers who have won the Hodge Trophy more than once are connected to Penn State — David Taylor won in 2012 and 2014, Zain Retherford won in 2017 and 2018, and coach Cael Sanderson won three times as a member of the Iowa State Hawkeyes in the early ‘00s.

The Nittany Lions play out of the on-campus Recreation Building, better known as Rec Hall, which seats 6,846 for wrestling. Opened in 1929, the historic arena also was home to Penn State's men's and women's basketball teams until the Bryce Jordan Center opened in 1996. It continues to host PSU's men's and women's gymnastics and volleyball teams.

The Lorenzo Wrestling Complex, named after one of Penn State's most successful coaches, is adjacent to Rec Hall and is a state-of-the-art facility. The complex also is home to the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, one of the world's top amateur wrestling clubs, and designated as a U.S. Olympic Regional Training Center.

  • Awesome as always, every time we’re there.

Fantastic Penn State wrestling team, Brice Jordan is a Great place for these matches. Everything was awesome. Only thing I was disappointed in was our car was ticketed even though we had the proper pass and pulled into the space (not backed in as others were and got ticketed).

Tickets were easy to access and provide at the gate. No problems with the ticket transfer and access.

  • Not enough seats

by Sean on 2/3/25Bryce Jordan Center - University ParkRating: 1 out of 5

I purchased 4 seats (7-8-9-10) in section C14 for the event to find out that when I got to the BJC there were only 2 (7-8) and there was no other seats for my other 2 tickets. This required us to stand or sit on the ground to watch the event. When I went to customer service I was told that Ticketmaster oversold the area. If I wanted general admission that's what I would have purchased. Make sure to confirm with the venue that the seats that ticket master is selling do actually exist.

Penn State-Iowa NCAA wrestling meet held at the Bryce Jordan Center was perfect! Tickets arrived in a timely manner, entry to the facility went smoothly (maybe because we were a little later than we had hoped) and the event was top notch! The atmosphere, the wrestling and the outcome was exactly what we had hoped for!

  • Penn State Wrestling Rocks

by Jeffrey Geiser on 2/3/25Bryce Jordan Center - University ParkRating: 4 out of 5

I've been to many matches and enjoy PSU wrestling immensely. The BJC rocked and beating up Iowa is fun, naturally. My only comment here was I was not able to transfer two of my tickets to friends who came up early and had to wait for us to go in. I'm not sure what caused that issue but it was an unnecessary (imho) inconvenience in this day and age.

  • great wrestling time

by chad kauffman on 2/3/25Bryce Jordan Center - University ParkRating: 5 out of 5

the wrestling was fantastic, imo. it is hard to get lower seats for the big matches but having the big screen helps. it really helps when they zoom in for people. I take a pair of bins in to help see even better. The parking setup is still a mess imo. paid parking can't be sold or transferred, then we were told to print out something at the last minute. we appreciate not getting shafted with crazy parking prices for the wrestling.

Amazing first time experience. Many types of helpful hints, to help enjoy the experience. Adding ticketmaster tix to your iphone wallet really speeds up the gate check in process. Thankyou
