About

Pearl Jam is an alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band's lineup consists of bassist Jeff Ament, rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard, lead guitarist Mike McCready, lead singer/guitarist Eddie Vedder and drummer Matt Cameron. Thirty-plus years of live performances, twelve studio albums and hundreds of official live concert bootleg releases later, Pearl Jam continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The band has sold over 85 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Pearl Jam's new album, Dark Matter, is out April 19, 2024. Since the earliest days, Pearl Jam has used its platform to elevate people and causes that often go unnoticed or underserved. Much of the band’s philanthropic work is accomplished through its Vitalogy Foundation which to date has raised more than $50 million for organizations supporting issues such as abortion access, climate change and homelessness, and drawing attention to the fight against diseases such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis and epidermolysis bullosa (EB). In addition to the money Vitalogy donates, the band also donates signed instruments, posters and merchandise to organizations to use for their own fundraising purposes. Compounding the impact of Vitalogy Foundation, the band has supported Jeff Ament’s Montana Pool Service in building skate parks in Montana and South Dakota. Pearl Jam also lends its voice to notable causes like the West Memphis 3, voting rights and fair ticketing practices. Over the past three decades, the band has a long history of standing up for what it believes in and putting its resources behind those beliefs. Through its innovative Ten Club and fan engagement, community building, coveted poster designs, and longstanding activism and philanthropy, Pearl Jam continues to have a lasting impact on generations of music lovers.

Loved it! It was worth the 3 hour drive! All the bands rocked.

Worst pj set list I've seen

by Robomomo on 8/25/09United Center - Chicago

Feel like the Monday night crowd got the sloppy seconds of the Sunday night crowd. I could not have hand picked a worse set list. This was the worst of the 7 pj concerts I've seen.

    Pearl Jam was Awesome!

by Breedy on 8/25/09United Center - Chicago

I wasn't crazy about the opening band. I couldn't even tell you the name of the band. Pearl Jam didn't come on stage until 9:00pm which stunk being that we were sitting in our seats at 7:30pm. Eddie Vedder sounded fantastic. They put on a great show, mixing their new stuff with their old stuff. I would have liked to have heard "Jeremy" being that was the song that first made me start listening to Pearl Jam as a kid.

    Pearl Jam was high energy

by Anonymous on 8/25/09United Center - Chicago

If you only attend one concert, make it a Pearl Jam concert. After 2½ hours of high energy rock, I was satisfyingly tired. The final song was the Jimi Hendrix inspired Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock. Hopefully a tribute to Woodstock's 40 anniversary.

    Best. Show. Ever.

by ColleenK on 8/25/09United Center - Chicago

I see Pearl Jam every time they come to town and I always love their shows, but this show was definitely one of the best I've ever seen. The set list was amazing and the band gave an incredible performance. The only thing that wasn't that great was the crowd. It was a strange mix and a lot of people were super rude, which was surprising because previous shows I've been to the crowds have always been pretty cool. Other than that the show was awesome!

    Great show

    by fan3815 on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

Great combination of the old stuff and some of the new ones....would have loved to have heard Eddie play some into the wild songs, but other than that great energy and overall show

    Keep on Rocking!!!

    by NJ4343 on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

From the emotional start to the Rocking middle and end, Pearl Jam proved to me why they are one of the best American Rock 'n Roll bands of all time. Eddie still has a fantastic voice while Mike McCready has guitar skills rivaling his Idols. (Behind the back Solo during Alive was awesome--same with him spinning on the ground during Spin the Black Circle)

    ohhh pj

by Tajana on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

well at first i would like to say that pearl jam is definitely one of my favorite bands and so when i found out they were coming to chicago i was expecting a great show and of course it was. i loved it, the energy was insane....although i did notice that some people were not really getthing into it, i had lots of fun. that did not stop me from jumping around and completely letting loose. the only thing that i wish they did do though, is play some more old songs. i came hoping to hear either betterman or state of love and trust and didnt get either :( but it was quite all right because pearl jam of course rocked!!!

    One word. Amazing

by JStew on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

My 4th pj show all of which have been in chicago this one for sure # 1 or #2 Only Lolla '07 might have been better. Needle and the Damage Done was sweet and Love reign O'er Me was the kicker for me, as always Mike said goodbye the best way possible with a little ledbetter.

    PJ gets better with age!!!!

by WIPJFANS on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

PJ seems to get better with age, just like the fine wines Eddie Vedder was drinking on stage. He was gracious enough to share some with the crowd. Their one hour set list with two encores was an excellent menagerie of old and new, touching on each album, including their new album due out next month. The show felt very nostalgic being the show in Eddie's hometown and him sharing some childhood memories before some songs. Eddie expressed that he wished the show was outdoors, which thinking about it, this is the first PJ show I have seen indoors. So, I hope to see PJ again soon in an outdoor venue! Thanks PJ for putting on another great show!!!

Pearl Jam not what I expected

by JRfromwindsor on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

First time seeing Pearl Jam. I wanted to see them after buying the the Imagine in Cornice DVD which was amazing. I found the show a bit of a snooze but probably because I don't know much of the material other than their classic hits of which they played only 2 or 3. Presentation, didn't start with a bang and the finish was equally down. Most of the fans seemed to enjoy it though. Whats with the Chicago fans sitting down on their butts after PJ went off before the first encore? Detroit/Windsor fans make sure they let the band know they want them back.. Oh they were probably too depressed after the first set to care. Sorry PJ fans, had to stir the pot. Had a great weekend in Chicago otherwise. Chicago is a great town.

    Pearl Jam was awesome!

by Smilestoo on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

Awesome show! Crowd remained standing throughout the entire show. Played most of the favorites. My only complaint was some of the vocals during Eddies speaking were hard to hear, a little to fuzzy at times. Had two large screens so those of us in the nose bleed section still had a great close-up view of what was going on stage.

    Another classic performance!

by cyberdome on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

If you've been to Pearl Jam shows before you would not have been dissappointed. If not be ready for 2+ hours of rockin'! They picked songs from allover their catalog with only a couple of new songs off the unreleased album. They added a couple of excellent covers of Who songs from Quadrophenia and in tribute to Michael Jackson they played Neil Young's "Needle and the Damage Done".

    Pearl Jam; Don't miss it!!!

by ufoundhim on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

I have gone to over 350 concerts in my lifetime and without a doudt this ranked in the top 10! The best Pearl Jam show I have seen and I have been to 6, 2 in Chicago, 2 in Los Angeles, 1 in San Francisco and 1 in Phoenix. It was so good I am trying to get tickets for the second night but it is sold out just like last nights. The quality of sound was superb and it was one of the loudest concerts I have heard, comparable to The Who. Speaking of The Who, PJ did two stiring renditions of The Who's, Rain or' me and Doctor. Vedder also did a very respectable tribute to Michael Jackson, masterfully doing appropriately Neil Young's Needle and the Spoon. For an opening night of a tour the band was outstanding especially the lead guitarist. Go to the show! You will love it and agree with me.

    great show

    by tim2233 on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

They played for 2 1//2 hours and it was great. Mixed in new songs with some deep old cuts and the great hits in between. Can't wait to see them again.

    Pearl Jam was extraordinary.

by KKPK on 8/24/09United Center - Chicago

Pearl Jam may have been better than when they first hit the scene touring after "Ten" and "VS." They are now a much more mature band with an extensive library of work to choose from. If you haven't seen them get ready for loud. The whole crowd sings the words to the songs in stadium-like chorus- unbelievable! Eddie Vedder's ties to Chicago and references to the suburbs he knew, made for a 'back home again' edge.
