About

A beloved folk rock singer-songwriter who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Paul Simon has become one of the most respected songwriters in rock music. He grew up in Queens, New York and developed an interest in baseball and music at an early age. Along with childhood friend Art Garfunkel, they formed Simon & Garfunkel in 1964 and scored a deal with Columbia Records, releasing their debut Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. They later won ten Grammy Awards and put out four more studio albums including 1966’s Sounds of Silence and 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water before parting ways that year. Simon’s self-titled solo album came out in 1972, instilling Latin and reggae flavors into his soft rock in its singles "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". 1973’s pop-folk album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon incorporated gospel and R&B and its follow-up, 1975’s Still Crazy After All These Years, reached number one on the Billboard charts and had four Top 40 hits including "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "My Little Town" with vocals from Garfunkel. In 1986, Simon released his seventh studio album Graceland, expanding his musical palette by infusing African textures and collaborating with South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which went on to sell over 5 million copies in the U.S. and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His Brazilian music-tinged The Rhythm of the Saints was released in 1990, achieving commercial and critical success, as well as introducing world music to a broader audience. His latest album, the acclaimed 2011’s So Beautiful or So What was touted as one of the year’s best. He has toured successfully through the years, as a solo artist as well as jaunts with both Bob Dylan and Sting, selling out concerts to ticket holders across the globe.

    Paul Simon

    by Countryfan545021 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Paul was as good as it gets. At 70 years old, it is unbelievable. Paul's band was also at the top of their game. I absolutely enjoyed his performance.

An epic performance from a living legend!

by NWprincess on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

What a wonderful show! I have loved Paul Simon's music for years - it has been a major part to the soundtrack of my childhood and early adult life - but this weekend was the first opportunity I've had to see him live in concert. What a show it was - the music was alive! The sights, sounds and colors all swirling together - it was amazing! This was a once in a lifetime concert that we will not soon forget! Everyone swaying, singing and dancing together to those wonderful songs - it was just beautiful!

    Paul Simon concert

    by levelbest52 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Paul Simon was amazing--I couldn't have asked for more of perhaps the very top singer-songwriter out there. Unless--I guess I would have wanted him to talk a little more--he's kind of a minimalist in that respect. But his playing and band was superb. I loved the two encores. Wasn't sure he'd show up for those, but he came through. I like the idea of no intermission--just 2 solid hours of music. Crazy Love was an unexpected opening, but fitting. Hope he liked his stay here, and understands how much Seattlites love his music.

    A True Bucket Lister

    by Charlie950 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Believe me ... if Paul Simon's NOT on your Bucket List, he should be! I'd never seen him live and figured, quite frankly, this might be my last chance. One of us might not be around for a next. Section C Row 20. Sound was FANTASTIC. The show was INCREDIBLE. From what I could tell EVERYONE had a GREAT time ... all 3 and maybe 4 generations worth. With a mix of old and new, and a few covers, all were treated to what makes this man one the best. He is truly blessed and takes obvious joy in sharing his gift. The band was a collection of young and older musicians, all multi-talented and versatile. Mark Stewart was worth the price of admission alone!

    Incredible!

by Wilbury on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Simon is in fine voice. His band is fresh, well rehearsed, and very talented. Great song line up. There were some unexpected gems, like when he sang Here Comes The Sun, and some songs were noted as missing, i.e., The Boxer. As always, Simon puts on a great show. Certainly an event worth attending.

    Simon as good as ever

by Subcaller on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Paul is 69. Hasn't lost a note or a beat. He still sounds as good today as in '67 when it all began.

    Great show, terrible venue

    by dot43 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Paul Simon is a consummate artist and his energy onstage was terrific, the music of course was incredible. I'd never been to the WaMu theater though, and I wouldn't go there again unless it was someone I just couldn't stand not to see. Now I know.

Paul Simon put performed one of the best concerts we've ever attended. His set was a mixture of new material, timeless Simon songs and timeless S&G songs. His band was a compilation of some of the best musicians on the planet -- and it showed. His set started just after 8 pm and his opening songs spanned the full history of his music. The sound was excellent and his vocals were as good as ever. He closed with two encores, again mixing favorites and new material. Don't miss the opportunity to see this tour! We'd go back today if we could.

Paul Simon still napping after all thesee years

by Jonzest on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Very disappointed. A few songs were stellar (Hearts and Bones was perfect and unforgettable) but overall he was out of tune, couldn't hit many of the notes, forgot lyrics, ouch! He seemed disengaged with the audience, remote, and nervous. The band was tight on old favorites but muddy and confused on a lot of the newer arrangements. I'm all for experimenting, but I'm not all for rehearsing on stage when I've [aid over $100 for my ticket. Leonard Cohen by contrast, an even older performer, gave the best concert I have ever seen in my life in the same venue.

    Paul Simon was amazing!

    by Krisi22 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

This was one of the best concerts I have ever seen! Paul Simon puts on a great show. His voice is strong, sweet, pure and beautiful. The band was so talented, it blew my mind. There must have been fifty different instruments on stage during this show, played by eight brilliant musicians. If the Sunday show wasn't sold out I'd go again tonight!

    Paul Simon Seattle- Night 1

    by Den60 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Not a great concert. Great song selection, Paul still sounds good but the staging was a bit disappointing, the camera guy was not good at all. I mean, when there is a piano solo, or sax solo, I'd rather see them play....instead of am image of Paul standing on the stage doing nothing. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 rating

    Paul Simon: American Icon

    by sadlak02 on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

We had 5th row seats to see Paul Simon. Unbelievable show. Played a bunch of his hits, along with songs off of his new album. Great venue to see a show at. Acoustics sounded flawless.

    Paul Simon, a great concert

by boomerdoggy on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

Great concert. Had not seen him since the 80s with Garfunkel. Band very good. Played mostly his solo stuff. Lots of new stuff. I would like to have heard more of his earlier music.

I particularly liked the different types of music he played from blues to caribean to gospel to folk, soft rock, rythem and blues etc. It was a fun evening for my wife and friends. Band was excellent, very talented.

    Meh.

by melanielw on 4/17/11WaMu Theater - Seattle

First night of the tour, and many glitches. The band was not in synch much of the time -- the drummers could not find the rhythm at all on "Obvious Child" and then Simon just jumped in someplace in the middle. And Simon's top notes are long gone -- a problem with much of his older music meant to be sung in a high range. Worth it to see my favorite artist before he hangs it up for good, but overall a hugely disappointing concert by someone who has given some excellent shows in the past.
