About

Paul Mooney is one of the most dangerous and brilliant comic minds of our time. His first professional gig was writing for Richard Pryor, penning most of the hilarious routines for Pryor's "Saturday Night Live" appearance, co-writing material on the groundbreaking "Live On Sunset" and "Is It Something I Said" albums, and for Pryor's film "Jo Jo Dancer, You're Life Is Calling."

A talented comedic writer, Mooney has served as head writer for some of television's best comedies, including "The Richard Pryor Show," "Good Times" and the first year of Fox's "In Living Color," creating the hilarious "Homey the Clown" skit. He also wrote for Redd Foxx's "Sanford and Son" series as well as "Saturday Night Live." Most recently Mooney appeared on Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show" and released a live stand up DVD, "Know Your History: Jesus Is Black and So Was Cleopatra."

Paul Mooney came into his own with his controversial and critically acclaimed, debut comedy album "Race," for which he received a GRAMMY nomination. His album "Master Piece" continues to stir anger, laughter, and thought. "I always drop in some history" he explains "It's knowledge. There's always a message in my comedy and you may not get it that night - it's like time bombs. It'll get you a week later. You'll understand." Be warned: this show is not for the easily offended.

Dick Gregory as a surprise guest was a treat! Enjoyed Mr. Mooney's very direct humor. Show may not be for everyone. Enjoyed it though.

Mooney still has it...Raw, relentless, and uncencenored. Never have I seen a crowed so shocked...I loved it! I would highly recommend to black fans of comedy..If you are white, I'll only say say..stay out his line of sight!

Sat in the front row and was bored

by Anonymous on 6/14/12Baltimore Comedy Factory - Baltimore

Very disappointed. It seemed more about him making statements about white versus black than comedy. Which I get is his style and is funny when he is on TV but did not translate well in person. At one point, he pointed me out because I was with a white man. Not an issue as I am used to it and find it funny but I almost felt as if he was personally attacking me. Overall, not a good show and will not see him again. We did not really laugh and at one point my friend just took out her phone and started texting. He was much better on the Chappelle show.

    Paul Mooney is a legend!!

by Mister27 on 12/6/10Punch Line Comedy Club - Sacramento - Sacramento

Punchline venue was great and the comedians were on point. Paul Mooney was hilarious!! The very best at speaking the truth and making it funny. The service was good, drinks were nice. Only objection I would have is the food quality was a bit mediocre.

    Paul Mooney was FABULOUS

by Nikkitheartist on 9/9/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The Cobb Energy Center was a gorgeous place to enjoy a comedy night with Mr. Mooney and the other comedians (i.e. Ricky Smiley, etc.). I thoroughly enjoyed myself and constantly and consistently was in stitches with laughter. I have several Mooney DVDs, but it pales in comparison seeing him LIVE! Very thankful for the opportunity.

He gave a 2 hour performance that was so over the top. Great release after a long week.

Enjoyed the show....did not enjoy the heckler in the audience. Security should have escorted the heckler out of the building. Couldn't enjoy the show as much. Also, 1st time at the Cobb Energy Center...was disappointed with the restrooms. You can tell the restrooms had not been cleaned since the last event, and this was before the show. Back to Paul...one thing that I would suggest is that Paul updates his jokes. Most of jokes can be seen and heard on YouTube.

Opening acts were AMAZING. Mooney literally brought the house down with laughter for two straight hours. My jaw is sore because I laughed so hard and so much! Wouldn't want to miss him if he came through again!!!

    Paul Mooney was masterful!

by MrsRSD on 9/2/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Paul Mooney's performance was unforgettable. His unique brand of pro-black social, political, and historical humor is not for the faint of heart. He delivered a hilarious string of stories and observations about race in America that made me think and laugh at the same time. I loved it and would not hesitate to see him again.

FUNNY BUT A BIT OVERBOARD AT TIMES

by djXs on 9/2/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I like insult comedians. I find humor in their jokes and campiness. Paul Mooney, I consider to be an insult comic. And I do find him funny. I've seen him on TV and decided to see him live. The 2 opening comedian acts were really funny and diverse. Mr Mooney however, insulted white people for close to 2 hours. I found it funny at first, but he rarely veared away from his focus on how white people did and still do black people wrong. Unlike comedian Lisa Lampanelli, who uses diversity in her insults and actually picks all types of ethnic people from the crowd, including herself, she's more camp and less dictative with her approach. With her, it's all good and all funny. No one race of people feel discriminated against or left out for that matter. It's jokes and stereotypes as opposed to a lecture which, at times, I felt Mr. Mooney was doing. At times during Paul's show, me and my friend felt uncomfortable. There was a (black) couple next to us who would glance over every now and then to see our reaction. They even felt uncomforatble for us. I would recomment this to friends, but with a fair warning of the majority of the content.

    Paul Mooney was on point!

by MYOB on 9/1/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I liked the comedy show, it was funny and Paul Moone was very real. He made jokes that made you laugh as well as think. I would recommend this show to a friend. One thing was that he could have ended it by maybe 45 minutes it was a little long but he was taping a show so that is probably why it was so long. Also, the comedians before him were also very talented which included Rickey Smiley and Guy Torry. Overall, the show was funny and I would see it again.

    Paul Mooney was fearlessly brilliant!!!

by Roraimadude on 9/1/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Paul Mooney's incisive comments on issues, events and people was at times outrageously funny, painfully true and flat-out brilliant. The pleasure of watching a legend at work was all mine.
