Paul Anka on Tour

If anyone's earned the right to mount a touring revue of Frank Sinatra songs, it's Paul Anka. Not only was the Canadian crooner among a wave of pop phenoms vying for the title of "The Next Sinatra" in the late 1950s, he would go on to pen the lyrics to Ol' Blue Eyes' signature song, "My Way," in 1969. So to celebrate his 60th year in showbiz, Anka is paying tribute to the man who arguably made it all possible — both as a formative influence and as a career-defining collaborator. After debuting in 2018, The Anka Sings Sinatra tour extends into spring of 2020. But while the setlist is stacked with Sinatra standards, you'll also hear Anka delve into his own repertoire of classics, as well as his singular interpretations of songs by Elton John, Prince, Creedence Clearwater Revival and many more. As the man himself puts it, Anka Sings Sinatra is a night of "his songs, my songs — my way!"

Paul Anka in Concert

Though he first emerged as a singer in the Sinatra mold, Paul Anka was really the first Justin Bieber — a ‘50s-era prototype for the teen idol. Born in Ottawa, Anka was determined to become a pop star before he hit high school — and after pounding the music-industry pavement in L.A. and New York, he scored an international No. 1 smash with the breezy, brassy confection "Diana," released in 1957 on the eve of his 16th birthday. The hit streak would continue with charmingly self-deprecating ballads like "Lonely Boy" and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder." As his style of innocent, prom-dance pop was displaced by the harder-edged rock ‘n' roll sounds of the ‘60s, Anka also enjoyed a fruitful career as a composer, writing the theme song for The Tonight Show as well as major hits for Tom Jones ("She's a Lady") and Frank Sinatra ("My Way"). But even if his days as a chart-topping artist are behind him, Anka has managed to stay in the contemporary pop conversation. His 2005 comeback album, Rock Swings, gave grunge standards by Nirvana and Soundgarden the Vegas treatment, while his aborted ‘80s-era collaborations with Michael Jackson eventually saw the light of day in the late 2000s — and even earned Anka a songwriting credit on Drake's 2018 album Scorpion, which sampled the Anka/MJ co-write "Don't Matter to Me."

    Amazing!!!

by #1 fan on 11/14/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Paul always puts on an amazing show, for his fans. he never disappoints .he is very gracious to all of his fans in the audience .he even does requests from people in the audience that he didn’t plan on doing in the show. He brought upA little six year old boy from the Orient onto the stage with him. He danced with a member in the audience for her 75th birthday he even sang his Italian song With a woman from the audience it was all very touching and unexpected. The band also did a fantastic job. I just wish the show was longer than 90 minutes it was an amazing night and everyone had a fantastic time can’t wait to next year‘s show to come around once again.

    Anka still rates an A+

by Tricia on 11/14/23Mohegan Sun Arena - Uncasville

While it was a hassle getting through security at Mohegan Sun, our end seats in the 7th row more than made up for it. From the moment Paul walked down our aisle to the stage until the end whem he invited everyone to "come on down"to the front of the stage, Paul showed his love for his fans and the excitement of singing for us. I particularly loved his playing the piano - and a guitar - as he sang his heart out. His voice is as great as it was 20 some years ago when I heard him live in another concert. While he included his oldies, which we all love, because we feel young again; the variety of songs he sang only showed off his great talent. I wish him good health so that he can continue to offer concerts for years to come!

    great show but one disappointment

by Marie on 11/14/23Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic City

Paul Anka still has it. His voice is as strong as ever and his selection of songs was great. He was even a comedian at times. Will go to see him again. There was one disappointment however. We had a picture of Paul that was taken in 1960 something with my husband who was a DJ at the time and we would have really liked for him to sign it. We also made a copy for him to keep. I'm sure he would have liked to see what he looked like 60 years ago. Tried to make contact with him but to no avail. Some of the security staff tried to help but were limited in what they could do and we thank them. Great venue, great seats and a great show. This was the second time we saw the show and hope there is a third time. Will definitely bring the picture along and maybe have better luck getting it signed.

Absolutely Top 5 of 295 concerts ever.

by Tommy on 11/13/23Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic City

Mr. Anka was unbelievable. Orchestra was same. Usually when you get to this age you don't know what you're in for. I'm 65 and have gone to over 295 shows of all types (wife and I have kept track since marriage in 1985.- from Sinatra to Genesis and Peter Gabriel. Andrea Bocelli to the Monkees. Grew up in 60's/70's, what can I say. Comparing all 295 shows to Mr. Anka his voice was unbelievable/kindness to audience unsurpassed/ability to adlib with audience was best entertainer ever. I would have watched another hour or two. What an incredible night out. And shout out to the fabulous Ocean Resort for great staff and 5 Star venue. Audio was spot on with perfect lighting. It just was an exciting night for all 10 of us that went. Everyone came out dazed and repeating the word ICONIC. Why isn't this 82 year old who moves like a 40 year old doing a Christmas special for all us boomers. He's not Sinatra but in a lot of ways he's equal status in every way - especially voice. Creating music for Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Tom Jones, Johnny Carson TV Theme song, Etc., etc., .... The songbook written for superstars rivals McCartney's prolific style. I just wish he could know how we were blown away. Thank You so much for a show I know I'll remember forever. And if he's ever around we will be back to enjoy what was a premiere performance. Thank You. Thank You, Thank You. Bravo Baby!!!! Dr. Tom
