Memorable, Sincere & Faithfully Fulfilling
by C. M. on 8/20/22Commonwealth Stadium / Stade du Commonwealth - EdmontonAs a Catholic, it was with tremendous pride and privilege, that I was in the presence of the Holy Father as he conducted mass in the Coliseum. Pope Francis offered all he had within himself to attempt to satisfy and offer an apology to the Indigenous population as per requested. He graciously did this repeatedly with heartfelt words and actions; the sorrowful pain upon his troubled face displayed how deeply regretful he felt for the survivors as well as the precious lives lost. No one wants to constantly relive the past by repeatedly sifting through the horrible atrocities these little ones endured. With sincere gratitude to the Holy Father, he has now provided ALL Canadians the opportunity to move forward and to assist those who need our comfort and compassion in coping with this horrible situation. Pope Francis amply fulfilled an obligation he made to the Indigenous community with a humbling heavy heart and in very poor health. In parting, his only request was in asking forgiveness for any part people of the Catholic faith shared in these terrible occurrences. Never did he excuse nor deny their horrific conduct or lack of dignity resulting in such terrible outcomes. If, for any reason, it is felt that the Holy Father, Pope Francis, did not fulfil his commitment with grace and sincerity, then perhaps it is those who, by choice, were not prepared nor willing to open their ears and hearts to receive the true "communion" of Pope Francis' message. His well-intended visit has left us, as a nation of MANY beautiful cultures, with an opportunity for recognition, reconciliation and rejuvenation without condemnation and unending compensation. We are truly blessed in so many wonderful ways, let us all appreciate this and take nothing for granted.
