A ticket back to the past
by Paulnstl on 7/24/10Lumiere Place - St. LouisThese two legends of country music hail from legendary families of their own. Both were mainstays on the charts back in the 1990s and early 2000s, however, since then they have failed to maintain their mega success. Call it a changing of the guards, if you will. Along with several other acts from that powerful decade, they just cannot compete in the current marketplace, so they are regulated to playing small intimate theatres and casinso. If they knew this was in their future, I think they would shudder at that. With all that being said, the Gritz and Glamour tour as Pam Tillis declared it was a nice change up in a traditional concert ticket. Merging these two talents seems odd at first, but the small space, the acoustic theme was right up their alley. Singing back and forth verses on the first song and then each artist singing a hit of their past the show moved rapidly. The banter between the both and the humor they projected was a nice reminder of how down to earth country singers really are! Lorrie sang back up on quite a bit of Pam's songs, while Pam just kind of sat there and looked at her feet during Lorrie's numbers. A stand out was when Pam sang a verse of Something in Red which brought the audience to their feet! They ended the show with a rousing gospel number and then they were off to rest before the next show. 60 minutes, short, sweet and left you wanting more. They both sounded great! Pam in fact had never sounded better! Lorrie's voice, as always, shows off the years and and wisdom her life has given her. I wish they would have sang newer songs from their newest albums (Lorrie claimed I Walk Alone was new, but since it was recorded a few years back, I did not count it), but I know they had to perform to what the audience would want to hear. I can just imagine that Pam is sick of singing Mi Vida Loca!
