So, last time I saw the Nutcracker was in 2005 in San Diego. I have been wanting to take my daughter when she was old enough and she is 9 1/2 so I finally took her...went specifically shopping to get a dress for her, read every email that came in regards to Covid etc. I even called the Performing Arts Center and my call was returned within 20 minutes after I left a message asking about the at home Covid tests. (thank you). My daughter and I arrived early, verified vaccination and negative test and got the bracelet to wear. Once the doors opened, we were allowed in and the fun began. There was a beautiful collection of nutcrackers, ornaments, jewelry and zip-up hoodies. There was a large nutcracker which was perfect for taking pictures next to. Also had beverages and chips for purchase at decent prices.
We had to wait for about 30 minutes to take our seats, which was fine. Was a great time to people watch and use the facilities.
The doors opened and we were showed to our seats by a very nice lady. BTW; everyone that worked Saturday was super nice, friendly and helpful. My daughter made a point to tell everyone she encountered Merry Christmas and it was sweet that the staff returned her greeting.
Now, the show.....first half was amazing. However, the second half blew the first half away! My hands hurt from all the clapping, my face hurt from the smile that was plastered on my face and my heart raced as I watched my daughter fall in love w/ ballet. She kept shouting "this is amazing" whenever we all clapped which was met w/ "ahhh" and smiles from those sitting near us.
By the time the curtain came down I was in tears! It was so beautiful, magical and perfect!
Thank you so much to everyone involved. My daughter wants to go again next year and have this be "our thing".
With all the craziness in the world right now, seeing something so beautiful as this ballet has lifted my spirits and reminded me that there is still beauty in the world.
A thousand thank yous and a very Merry Christmas!
