About

Ozzy Osbourne in Concert

Ozzy Osbourne is one of the most well-known figures in the history of metal, but The Prince of Darkness did plenty more than bite the heads off of doves and bats and sing for Black Sabbath. Born in Birmingham, England, into a working-class family in 1948, Osbourne became interested in musical theater at an early age, performing in numerous school productions. Entranced by The Beatles, Osbourne decided he would go into music after finishing school, but was sidetracked by a series of odd jobs — construction labor, plumbing, and working as a car factory horn-tuner — as well as a brief stint in prison for burglarizing a clothing store. Eventually a free man, he was asked to join Rare Breed, a band started by bassist Geezer Butler. The band changed their name shortly after. Its new name was Black Sabbath.

Obsessed with the occult, Butler and Osbourne, alongside guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward, took rock music on a violent left turn, infusing it with doomy riffs, macabre lyrics, and wild freak-outs. Their 1970 self-titled debut — famously hated by ‘Rolling Stone' critic Lester Bangs — shook pop music with a force that still cannot truly be measured; follow-up ‘Paranoid,' with masterful metal tracks "War Pigs," "Iron Man," and of course, "Paranoid," cemented them as the most important metal band in the world. After releasing an incredible run of albums throughout the ‘70s with Sabbath, though, Osbourne left briefly to work on a solo project that would eventually become ‘Blizzard of Ozz'; when trying to rejoin Sabbath a few months later, Osbourne was met with waves of derision and violence from the other band members. Osbourne was asked to leave, and he immediately released ‘Blizzard of Ozz' to massive acclaim: Monumental single "Crazy Train" charted at No. 9 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock list, and the album went 4x Platinum. He continued the streak with a number of lauded solo albums through the ‘80s.

In the ‘90s, Ozzy would create Ozzfest, one of the decade's most vital metal festivals. Eventually he did rejoin Black Sabbath (in 2011), working on new album ‘13,' released in 2013. It slayed the charts, including the U.S. Billboard 200. The band played their final shows in 2016. Catch Ozzy's second farewell tour, No More Tours 2, which runs until mid-October in the U.S. before heading to Europe.

The Madman and the Metal God kickin' ass!

by scuderi on 11/29/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

What an amazing night! Ozzy and Halford were perfect, like a good wine... The older, the better!!! The only thing that didn't "allow" the whole night to be PERFECT were those stupid security guys... They were bothering every single person on the floor session... And during Halford's concert I couldn't stand up, blargh! Who was the "genious" that decided to put chairs on a Metal concert??? Anyway... LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL! LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!

    Ozzy's still got it!!

by Ozzyfan1966 on 11/29/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Ozzy still knows how to get the crowd pumped up. He played a great mix of classic Sabbath with all his own classics as well as his new hit 'Let me hear you scream'. The intro movie montage was hilarious!! I have to give him credit. I don't know too many 60 year olds who can rock like that! Great show, I'd go back and see it again!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY OZZY!

Ozzy can still rock the house

by MRT634 on 11/29/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I took my 12 year old son, for his first concert experience. It is going to be hard to top this one. Every concert he will go to, will be measured against this one. Ozzy put on a great show, and rocked the house for 2 hours and 40 minutes.

    Ozzy was crazy !

by sassykassy99 on 11/22/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - Vancouver

It was our first time in Canada and we were a little surprised that they were all seated and there was no general admission. Much to my husband and sons dismay, there was no mosh pit. I was all prepared for this crazy frenzy that Ozzy tends to whip up at his concerts, but when we walked in and there were only chairs all the way up to the stage, pretty much. It was, to say the least, a relief for me since I wasn't really looking forward to being squished and sweaty. But the guys were definitely disappointed. So, in the future, for me to go to a hard rock concert, Canada is where I would prefer to go. As far as the guys, I think they enjoy the US concerts better. It was aweome when he was hosing everyone in the first 10 rows with the foam. They just got nailed by him. It was hilarious. The commercial deals at the beginning were a bit over the top raw, but funny. That's Ozzy though. But all in all, the concert itself was great, we had a good time! I was glad I finally got to see him after a 30 year wait.

    Ozzie rocks the Saddledome!

by Grazzhopper on 11/18/10Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Ozzie is way too cool, he was on stage before his band! His skits were awesome, Vampires are pussies, "I'm the King of Darkness" Played for 2 hours and 20 minutes, turned the foamy firehose on the crowd 3 times. Thank God he's getting better with age. Frigging -20 outside and the Saddledome was rocking hot, hot hot!

Great show, 2.5 hours long! I thought the drummer was the star of the show. He went at full speed and had no break for the whole show!

Ozzy Ozbourne and Halford were amazingly EXCELLENT

by mrgrizz on 11/16/10Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - Vancouver

This was an excellent concert by both bands. One of the best concerts I have ever attended in my lifetime. Halford's lead singer was excellent. Ozzy and his band were fantastic and 100 times better than I had expected. I truly and thoroughly enjoyed the evening and left with no voice and worn out from dancing, yelling and screaming. Way to go guys, thanks !!!

    by Bambi624 on 9/29/10NJ & AZ varies - Phoenix

This review is not reguarding any one particular show. I've seen Ozzy more times than I care to count. Every show is just as great as the previous one, but all very different shows! As long as Ozzy keeps rocking, I'll be there rocking too!
